Why does the colour look different with the same settings?

Because I wanted to run multiple bots, I created a windows VM using virtualbox. Alls good until I realised my scripts dont run in the VM. After some troubleshooting, I "think" it is because the colours look different. Pictures say a thousand words, lemme show you guys.

This is what I am used to seeing on my normal setup

This is what I see in Simba in my VM setup

Can anyone shed some light why this might be the case? In case you are wondering, the graphics settings in the game are exactly the same.

Are you sure the brightness settings are same on both setups?

Brightness, OpenGL/Direct x.

You can run multiple bots without virtual machine so colors should be the same.

100% positive. I even opened them side by side and compared

Thats what it is 'supposed' to look like.

Yes. Both brightness max with OpenGL

Thats what I thought.

Why don't you run it without VM then?
make sure you got the same color setting in windows.

Or grab VMWare. There exists a freeware version of it that would allow you to use it. Vmware will not change your colorspace.

the bottom one really looks like safe mode though! are you sure you are getting it to run in opengl as you think ?

If not, i have absolutely no idea.. deleting jagexcache so it downloads the files again ?!?

3D graphics thing enabled in virtualbox settings? Or you won't be able to run in opengl/directx mode I think

Yes you are right. I wasnt able to run it outside of safe mode unless I enable 3D acceleration in VirtualBox settings.

Tbh, I suspect it is actually safe mode disguised as OpenGL. Becos i wasnt able to run OpenGL without enabling 3D acceleration in the virtualbox settings.. Once I could do it.. well.. I dont think it looks any different really

Are you using VMware to bot?

Just checked. Yes both are 32-bit.
I am running VM because I want to run multiple bots in a different IP from my main. If you have any good suggestions please share. I tried setting up lubuntu in virtualbox but I couldnt even get Wine to open my offline java to install it.
I was previously running them without VM when i dont play my main after using proxy like hotspotshield but i realised that hotspotshield sometimes "dont" work. It is connected but my IP is unchanged.
Running it in VM gives an environment which is easier to control as well.

I really suspect it has got something to do with the fact that my VM doesnt "have" a graphics card in VirtualBox? I cant install any GPU drivers.

You know Jagex doesn't look at your IP when banning? They do look at multiple acc's running on the same jagexcache or something like that ( and they don't instantly ban other acc's they also check them first ).
You should try VMware since it's easier to use than Virtualbox and it's better :)

Discussions like this always lead to extreme debates. Nobody knows what information is gathered or not gathered, unless you're a Jagex employee or something. No need to make definitive claims when you really don't know.

OT: Glad OP got his stuff clarified. Do people botting with VMs actually notice any extra safety or is it all just a sham? Seems like a lot of resources to be using when I find that I'm fine on my desktop.

Everything I said about them not banning on IP is what many others told me. And from personal experience I had multiple ( 3 ) acc's banned within 2 min.
So they probably check something, but I don't think it's the IP.

Hmm … Well lets put it this way. If I discover a clown chopping trees at the same spot for weeks with 3 hour breaks every 1 hour. And then someone will log in to chop trees at the same spot in a different world on the same IP.. and every couple of million gp they will conveniently drop their gold or items to be picked up by another supposedly "legit" character on the same IP. I am not sure about you but if I spot such behaviour, they look pretty damn suspicious to me.

Tbh it is really not hard to trace if they do have logs. The only question is how far back do the logs go. Ppl bot on their disposable accts mainly for gold and on their main acct for skills. If you track the flow of the gp, most likely it is not hard to figure that something fishy is going on. Coupled with the fact if your main also bot on some non gold scripts say… running the same agility course for hours. (yes i did that)

Anyway.. I am just trying ways to reduce the exposure. Depending on how well the setup runs, I may or may not do it in the end. But it is kind of an intellectual challenge for me. Same with botting. I kinda like staring at my scripts and looking at my character run around doing stuff. I mean i could play the game but… i get a sense of satisfaction watching my chap run around. Since i have never coded in my life so it is kind of "new" for me.

Long story short. I think it is my graphics setup. Lemme go install l guest additions and test if it works after that. It is kind of slow now because I am running 1 OS on my main and 2 other OS in VM and my laptop is lagging like crazy.

Edit: And using a VM allows me to run multiple accounts on the same laptop at the same time with different IPs if I so chooses (altho it is impractical). But it is possible to run my main with my normal IP and my army of bots in the background with a different IP. I am not sure if running proxy programs like hotspotshield in the VM works or not but I did it via another pain-in-the-behind method.

Quick update: The problem is with Direct3D not enabled in my virtualbox setup. I am not sure why. I was using the setup from modern.ie.. then I thought that might be the problem so i redownloaded a fresh Windows 7 Enterprise iso. Mount and installed on a new VM setup. But for some reason the guest additions in it are not working.. my 3D acceleration goes crazy. My I use Chrome without turning off the hardware acceleration, it flickers like crazy. Obviously I cant run runescape because the moment i clicked on Auto-Setup Graphics, the simba window closes. Not to mention in the java debug, i see DIRECT-X error. Debug Level 1 in red text.

If they would that would mean if 1 person in a school bots all the people that are logged in also bot :duh:
Unless you mean "check" like checking if they also bot. That would be possible but I'm not saying that they do that or don't do that.

I've never seen any definitive evidence that they even bother to check IP addresses, let alone ban accounts on the same IP.

While this is a possibility if you did it without any research, doing very little research will show if the ip belongs to a school or business, usually. Also they would only ban all the accounts IF they were being botted on as well or played A LOT.(simulating a bot.)

They may not use it on most, but back in the day, say 2007 I was hit with an ip ban. They could have scrapped it by now i suppose but it would be naive to not assume they at least check.

Well, you _think_ you experienced an IP ban. You don't know for sure.

And you'll find that many members (including myself) are of the opinion that Jagex don't issue IP bans, or ban accounts solely off a basis of IP address.

sorry if i didnt make it clear, they wont ban solely off the basis of ip address, I wasn't trying to imply that.
