JaGex is definitely banning bots by client alone (Powerbot NOT Simba)

So if you go to the Powerbot forums, you'll see tens of pages of posts by people that were recently banned. A lot of those were also only using the client to avoid ads etc. and not botting, but they were banned regardless. Thus it is very clear that JaGex can detect their client, and ban everyone using it.

I suppose a very good question is why they are able to detect the Powerbot client, but not SMART, or if they are able to detect both, why not ban SMART users? Also, should the development of Simba focus on creating an alternative for SMART, (using the browser) in case they begin targeting us too?

Simba is fully capable of running scripts in the browser, SMART is only an option.

alternative for SMART, (using the browser)

The browser is still detectable, I got a 2-day ban on my main for using a bot in-browser.

You know what I love about SRL? When WT-Fakawi first started it, he talked about about we respected Jagex and never wanted to ruin the game, we just subtly blended in, and it caused absolutely no harm to the game. It's what makes us an awesome community.

We're small, we're smart, and we're subtle. That's what's kept us alive all these years.

Behavioural analysis is very real. No bot is 100% undetectable.

how can the browser be detectable? It's the official client, if that got you banned then everybody would be banned. I think you're meaning to say that scripts ran through it are detectable, and yeah that's true. because jagex does more than merely client detection

Simba is detectable.

are you talking about detecting that simba.exe is running whilst the player is playing the game on a legit client?

He's talking about the mouse inputs I think.

but if they're doing so, people wouldn't be able to run accounts for so long before getting banned? (with the default smart client)

SMART uses a mozilla user agent so it should appear legit to jagex?

As for input, is it possible to detect SIMULATED mouse clicks/key holds on a java client?

SMART and Simba are pretty easy to detect. Both input and the processes themselves.

That is one method, yes. There are actually many proven methods at which any method of simba based botting is detectable (there was a competition a few months back where a number of us all developed methods of detecting any botting client, as well as browser based botting). There are many methods, however I do not good Jagex in high enough esteem to believe them capable or willing to do it.

For windows and use without SMART…can we even call it "faking"…

SMART uses its event nazi or w/e to fake inputs like the standard Post/Send Message(a silent mouse)…but simba just uses GetCursorPos and other standard windows functions to take control of the keyboard/mouse? They can detect even that?

'not botting' – yeah, sure.
Isnt hiding the ads for f2p people still against the rules and therefore bannable?

I don't think anyone in the history of ever has been banned for blocking the f2p ads

But technically yes it's against the rules

Sure hiding ads is against the rules, but the point was that they didn't need to run a script to get banned, just logging in would be enough regardless of what people did, even if they were playing legitimately in the client.

Yes because using 3rd party clients is against the rules (with exceptions - OSBuddy, RSBuddy (when it existed as a non-bot), SwiftKit (even though it's technically not a client, it just loads the webpage in a frame)

This is nothing new :p

Yeah, I know the usage of client alone is against the rules even if you didn't bot with it, but at least now they are clearly capable of detecting it, which is new? Or has the Powerbot client been detectable for a long while now?

RSBot has had issues with bans essentially since the release of optimus/botwatch

RSBot 4 was stable, RSBot 5 had limited issues and RSBot 6 had/has major problems with ban waves and just general survivability of accounts run under it

Only problem is, this cycle loops far too often for RSBot to be a viable method of cheating

RSBot 5 had huge issues with bans lol, main difference between rsbot 5&6 was OSRS support been added.

I'd trust your word over mine, I wasn't even keeping up with RSBot during the 5.x era
