Does anyone have any experience building a quadcopter?

Any tips & where should I start & how much would it cost?

Well my remote controller was 200€ alone, then the required electronics in the quadcopter would prolly be around a 100-150€. Rest you should be able to get for 50€, depending on how much you want to build yourself.

I am trying to challenge myself here, mind explaining if it is possible to have the drone hover on specific coordinates? Also I probably would want to spend around $500.

Another question, the remote controller did you customize it or was it like a ready built one?

I'm sure you can have the drone hover over specific coordinates, that does require customizations thought, I have this controller:

Haven't played with RC planes/copters in years thought.

If you are willing to do a bit of work your self, building and programming your own FCB (IE using Arduino + shields) you could use your phone or a pad, even your computer to control the copter over WiFi, however this requires a bit of work, but it's a nice hobby project, and you don't have to buy any controller.

I agree with the sums Frement is posting for the actual electronics. That's pretty much what I used for my first test-build.

Have fun, and please do a proggy on your build! :D

" a drone engineered to autonomously seek out, hack, and wirelessly take over other drones within wifi distance, creating an army of zombie drones under your control." - This is what the world is coming too! Have you ever watched iRobot before? lol :)

I have AR.Drone 2.0, its pretty sweet and with two cameras and uses your phone for control. If you were looking for a low budget quad-copter.
