Multiple Accounts Banned

So I woke up this morning and started setting up my bots, only to find that 7 of my 10 botting accounts had been banned. All have been botted using SMART, mostly private scripts, a few public (Ashaman scripts and GAO), and all of them F2P (never bought a bond). I've been botting 4 accounts at a time with proper breaks and anti-ban the last month or so, so it's not entirely surprising that they were banned eventually, but I've never had more than one account banned at a time before.

Funnily enough, 2 of the 3 not banned have around 50m and a bunch of great stats, those banned were average with no more than 2-3m each (though one had 82 Mining). It's annoying, but I've been botting three accounts in particular like crazy, and only one of those got banned (a F2P HCIM):

Has anyone else had a similar experience recently?

nope, haven't have bans since i implement a good antiban and breaking. You should see if you were botting in a very popular location, maybe you got multiple reports on all of them? too much coincidence though!

Is there any difference b/w the 3 acct that didnt get banned and the 7 that did?
Like they didnt bot on some particular period, or they didnt use a certain script etc.

There's no real difference, one of them is a low level account so hasn't got a lot of stats and hasn't had every script used on it, but the other two have had pretty much every script I have used in the past few weeks ran on it at some point. That's the most interesting part about this multi-ban, there's nothing specific that I can think of to indicate why 3 weren't banned and 7 were, even though 2 of those not banned have been botted heavily lately.

I suppose it's just luck or a lack of evidence, who knows.

No goldfarming, I basically just bot for the satisfaction of writing a solid script and "getting away with it". Most of them were low to medium level accounts with stats similar to the image above. Two of those not banned have high enough stats that I suppose you could call them mains. I don't bot my actual main though.

i dont think skills have much to do though… i have lvl 3 bots doing toads for a month now around 15 hours a day and no bans, they are 1 in all stats… and my clay miners also! so maybe you should be looking to another thing…?

It sounds like you've been really lucky, I was under the impression that botting like that would get you banned for sure. :S

It's been brought up before and discussed multiple times, but a solid theory is that having your player reported in-game will trigger a more in-dept detection system to monitor your account, at least for a limited time. Of course ideally it's wise to avoid being reported but I for one believe in this. Perhaps in this situation (like most others) you were reported on this (these) account(s) and SMART itself was detected.

this could be a posibillity since detecting smart for them is easy, but 7 accounts at the same time? that has to be too muuch coincidence

They can detect it in the cache, just by logging in on it. You could of just logged in on the accounts and kept getting them banned without knowing it.

I'm not so sure it's SMART that is the problem. If it was I'd imagine they'd insta-ban you like they do powerbot users (not sure if this is accurate tho, haven't ventured to use it because of all the bad press). I think it has to do with both using a gold-farming script and/or one that messes up at least (the one account I had banned was because of an astral script that got stuck) and being reported for doing so.

After botting salamanders and divination for like 2 weeks (switching every 6-12 hours) I was fine probably because the gp/hr of these are really low / 0. When I was using Cohen's superheater and a bunch of people reported me for ignoring them, Jagex didn't do anything about it which I found super surprising since superheating was like 1.5m/hr same as astrals(got banned 2-3 months later after running astrals almost non-stop for 1.5 weeks at that time, needed dat 91rc :P. Pretty sure the superheater had nothing to do with it.). It's probably best to alternate/diversify the skills you train as well because the only person who does astrals for a week straight is a bot :P

It also probably has something to do with the longevity of the account too as the accounts I bot are generally 5+ years old from when I used to play in high/middle school.

I would guess that it worked something like this: reported account, investigated, banned one, investigate -> ban spree.

The bans were likely based on script quality since you used a variety of script.

Not necessarily. SMART is detectable if you know what to look for. Powerbot detection works differently, so it's not really a fair comparison I don't think.

The idea is that SMART alone won't give you away. You must first get flagged through the usual means (suspicious behavior or player reports). The investigation process that follows is what actually gets you - it's when Jagex checks for and finds evidence of SMART.

Can anyone explain how SMART is detectable? If using Simba + browser is undetectable, maybe we can change SMART to hide whatever is giving it away.

There's no such thing as undetectable, just more difficult to detect.

Also, I don't pretend to understand how SMART works completely, but afaik it's not just a matter of changing "whatever is giving it away". The way that SMART is done is the best way to do it, changing things isn't going to do anything.

True enough, undetectable was the wrong word to use. That being said, this thread gives the impression that it is pretty simple to see that someone is using SMART. So, I was just wondering if anyone actually knew what it was about SMART that makes it easy to detect.

Like I said, I don't pretend to understand how exactly SMART does its thing, I've just learned from being here that there's no other way to do what it does that would make it any less detectable. @slacky and @Brandon could both explain it a hell of a lot better than I.

It's all circumstantial - nobody actually knows whether they do anything with "detecting smart". I only use smart and have only ever had 1 ban on one of my toons.

Sulferx

Yeah, whether or not they are actively detecting SMART is hypothetical. One can only guess.

As for how - I don't think SMART would be directly detected. Rather, its use leaves behind little bits of evidence that can altogether be assumed as SMART. One such piece of evidence, for example, would be the fake mouse and keyboard.

That's my understanding based on what I've read from others, anyway.

Out of the accounts I've used to develop on, repetitiveness without failure whatsoever seems to be what catches their attention. I had my scripts set to be absolutely perfect success rates, and noticed they got hammered within two weeks or so, I put in some failure (because we're HUMANS, we do mess up every once in a while) and the accounts seem to last 3-5 weeks. It's all a matter of human activity. I don't believe SMART is being detected, it's our scripts, I also believe it's because mass repeated actions on multiple accounts (people using the same script for hours and hours). Correct me if I am wrong.

No, I think you're right, and I'm trying to think of ways to simulate human error randomly overtime in my scripts now too. That's also the same reason that @Clarity's biometrics excites me so much… I can't wait to see it released. :p

I'd guess the absence of a VPN was the reason for your bans, the same happened to me in 2011 when i used to run 7-8 accounts during the powerbot/epicbot glory days without the use of a vpn. Jagex seems to get very suspicious when 10 accounts are logged in from the same IP address.

I only* bot 4 at a time, but I agree that it would look suspicious if they used IP addresses as a way to detect bots. I still don't believe that this is the case, and I've never seen any real evidence to suggest otherwise.

I believe The Mayor has said that they do not track IP's for login. But a VPN for each bot would be 'safer' since when they do decide to ban one, they 'could' ban the others, within their TOS.

Well, we don't actually know what they do, but if IP banning was a thing then every single one of my accounts would have been banned, as would the accounts of everyone else who has had one or more bots banned but still had survivors. Mayor is an example of someone with a large botfarm who, afaik, doesn't get numerous bans at a time. :p

They can ban off IP's and they can ban off registered email addresses on the account(s). However, even stated in a video a IP-ban is a waste of their time, so they don't bother because anyone can change their IP and be back at it again. Just play it smart, and fix up your scripts.

At start up to 6, but after they got unnoticed with very poor antiban i have to admit last 3-4 days around 12 hours a day, longest was 27 hours just taking breaks every 1-3 hours for 5-15mins. And no, they only runned red spider eggs, one guy got 47 summoning from 10 just spawning eggs:) others had around 29-35 or so.

From: King

Thats why i think i got banned. No biometrics implemented and if you run long hours they have huge data range to compare to and its eazy for them to decide. Also i think they need to change activities too without getting back to old ones. What iv noticed with green dragons script, if i run same version without tweaks/ added new antiban methods no matter if i do 3 hours a day i only survive up to 3 weeks… But my test accounts never got banned because they try out different versions and so on, no same version running over 6 hours. So in my eyes biometrics soon will be a must.

I have had some occasions if for example i run green drags with low lvl account using rune scimitar, it gets banned after 1k bones, if i get them in a day or two its quaranteed instant ban, they seem to survive from 50 to 57-58 stats, maye they have some amount of items collected to run botwatch through. for example runned guy for 12 hours 2 days agp. got 1k bones, tooked day off, runned yesterday, found banned after the night. With other one moss dragons was running 18 hours with 'Night break' 5-6 hours. he didnt waked up ….So got banned in those 12-13 hours he was running…

Also very intresting fact is ranging is like 2-3 times less ban than meele somewhow even if i run exzact the same script (well only in bank they take bolts, but thats all the difference). They might be picking up on most bottish looking guys first.

I am actually desperate right now. Got no accounts to bot drags now, in a month lost like 15…. Was nearly finished version 2.0 which is capable of botting any green drags locattion. Guys never goes to same world to disturb each other, cause was using sharetab include, added tons of failsafes, stable like never before but basicly running it is instant ban…. Have no scripts to release public cause of ridiculously high ban rates :(

Other guys who survived green dragons before my script was getting banned (one guy even got 99range 96 def from 50/50)got them summoning in double xp weekend, was botting fruit bats, but now stopped and going to add some fancy stuff like prehover, remembering piles it clicked, add some space orientation, like 1k lines antiban, biometrics now. Wont risk my last few accounts. Basicly need to rething all stuff about writing script and to make as human as possible.

Very weird feeling is today i dont bot anny account in last 5 months i joined villavu for the first time………..

If I had to guess, I would say that you are right. Running a public script that is not well varied gives them a large amount of data to compare accounts too. Safest bets are private scripts, or changing scripts for private use. I usually write my own scripts or heavily modify other scripts that I use. This will make them unique and, in my mind, give me a lesser chance of being banned.

I think I am going to setup a guide to lessening bans, atlas a common sense one. This way nobody can say "I didn't know" ect.. I have only be banned twice now I do believe, both were running nature runes (slaves) and both were running for 24 Hrs a day. They lasted for several weeks. They took roughly a day or so to make. So to me, it was not a big deal. I am going to talk to @Clarity today about working with him, or possibly developing my own and releasing it as an include. I have started today! I will make an update thread to keep everyone posted throughout my break!
