SMART won't start

I haven't botted on RS since maybe early 2013 after I quit. Now I'm back at it and I can't get simba to start working anymore.

SRL: Logfile = C:\Simba\Includes\SRL-6/logs/SRL log (24-10-14 at 02.34.18 PM).txt

I've installed JDK7 and JRE, set my paths and everything and nothing works. I'd made sure that I had no previous java versions and everything. I've searched through the QA thread posts and that didn't help me. Can anybody help me with this?

Try deleting all the Jagex cache files/foders and random.dat from c:/users/you

Tried that. The closest thing I found to my issue was the post this guy made(Tlachtli). I did everything he mentioned step by step and yet it still isn't working. Yet it'll work on my cruddy laptop from 2008.

I might have no idea what I'm talking about, but why is your SMART using two plugins? Isn't it just supposed to be either?

Im going to assume you have windows 64 bit…
If so, you need the x86 installation of java.

I had this problem for a while too, still no solution. Tried everything in this thread and others.

I have both the 64bit and 32bit java installed.

Uninstall ur 64bit java (delete the residual folder too if it dont get auto removed)

---------- Found your java path @ C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe
Ur 32bit simba is trying to run the 64bit java that's why it wont work.
64bit java would only work with 64bit Simba&plugins.

Is your 32bit java in Program Files (x86)?

That's what I was looking at when I saw other people post that error. And yes my 32 bit java is in program files (x86) so I uninstalled my 64bit java and deleted the Java folder in Program Files. Gotta restart computer, will update this post.

Okay, now simba can't find my java path. Its still trying to look for the 64bit java. I only have the 32bit installed.

Isn't there a 64 bit version of simba that I could just use? Or how the hell do I tell this 32bit version of simba to use my 32bit version of java? Its still searching for the 64bit java version.

You are using the latest srl 6 right? Can u give the exact path of ur 32bit java?
Try run the following

function GetDirectoryName(Directory, Path: String): String;
var
I: Integer;
Directories: TStringArray;
begin
Directories := GetDirectories(Path);

for I := 0 To High(Directories) Do
if ExecRegExpr(Directory, Directories[I]) then
if (Directories[I] > Result) then
Result := Directories[I];
end;

function FindDirectory(Directory, Path: String): Boolean;
begin
Result := Length(GetDirectoryName(Directory, Path)) > 0;
end;

begin
writeln(FindDirectory('Program\sFiles\s\(x86\)', Copy(PluginPath, 0, 3)));
end.

I guess I'm using SRL-6. I just deleted all my old simba files and installed a fresh copy using Coh3n's guide.

I ran that code and it came up with "false".

Here's where my 32 bit java is located.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_25\bin

Your using java 8! Thats your problem! SMART is complied for java 7:p

It works for 8 too, Java maintains backward compatibility such that if a program is compile with java 7, any versions (or at least the immediate version after it) would work too, but possibly not the versions before it (eg. java 6)

Besides this should have no impact on why the function couldn't find the program files path.

Did you actually install the 64 bit simba? Click script > interpreter and see if there's a Pascalscript option.
64 bit simba is known to have broken default paths.

Try run the following:

writeln(PluginPath);

Or, did you not install Simba to c:/? Your full simba path?

1. Yes, there is an option to select pascalscript under scripts > interpreter. I just followed everything that was in Coh3n's guide. Step by step. Even used Yohojo's video too.

2. Got this when trying to run that code :

Error: Block expected at line 1
Compiling failed.

3. My simba path is C:\Simba

Not entirely true. Be careful what you read or hear on the internet or from others. This is one of the biggest fallacies/myths that java sells or at least.. developers believe and pass on to other developers..

1. A java 6 SMART.jar will hardly work (if ever) with Java 7 properly because the Canvas class has changed.. That's one thing (using internal proprietary code) will easily break backwards compatibility (a lot of the time it's avoidable but also there are lots of times where it isn't). The java 6 smart never used to flash on the taskbar or constantly grab focus. Same code (before ben updated it) compiled with Java 7 compiler would constantly grab focus, lose focus, etc..

2. JNI: JNI_VERSION_1_4, JNI_VERSION_1_6, etc.. Versions change. SMART uses JNI_VERSION_1_6 atm.. These are unavoidable changes (to do with the JVM's internals) and causes huge incompatibilities with native code sometimes[/B Should have no problem for SMART though..

3. Backwards compatibility for me is keeping the interface the same but the underlying code different so that you can compile the code with an OLDER compiler. This is definitely NOT true for java at all.. You'll get a unsupported class loader error. Easily.. amongst other things..

@OP; your code has an error. Post it.

What code? I've posted everything that the client has given me.

Only code I ran was the one that Riwu provided, and what I quoted in an earlier post was the only error message I got.

writeln(PluginPath);

Can't one of you guys TeamViewer me or something? Would finally get this problem solved, I haven't seen it get solved in every other thread that people had similar issues in.

It sounds like the script you're using is looking for that smart client thats floating around on here that has something to do with directX. Sorry that I don't know more but yeah.

What i meant by backward compatibility was, I compiled Smart with jdk 6, and when i run it with java7/8, it still works.
From what i know, they would usually mark obsolete methods as deprecated first, and only remove them after quite a few versions?

I guess u were trying to run the statement without the main block. This is what u actually have to run:

begin
writeln(PluginPath);
end.

Also, try run the following:

function GetDirectoryName(Directory, Path: String): String;
var
I: Integer;
Directories: TStringArray;
begin
Directories := GetDirectories(Path);
writeln(Directories);
for I := 0 To High(Directories) Do
if ExecRegExpr(Directory, Directories[I]) then
if (Directories[I] > Result) then
Result := Directories[I];
end;

function FindDirectory(Directory, Path: String): Boolean;
begin
Result := Length(GetDirectoryName(Directory, Path)) > 0;
end;

begin
writeln(FindDirectory('Program\sFiles\s\(x86\)', 'C:\'));
end.

Post the results.

Oh my god, I can't believe that solved it. Thank you so freaking much! I'm over here slapping myself and laughing at the same time for being so stupid. I don't even know how that folder was hidden.

Thanks again man! There isn't any rep on villavu anymore is there? If there was I'd up rep you.

Im having a similar problem as original poster and tried everything that has been mentioned in this thread. Deleted cache filed, Java 8 path, folders not hidden,im running 64 but downloaded offline 32, and few other things. This problem only happens 50% of the time too, so I would like to find a permanent fix.
