Hi everyone!

Hey everyone, long time lurker, first time speaker uper. I've been a member of the botting community for a long time along with simba. I've used tried and tested various bots, and now i want to develop my own to help out the community and learn!

A little about me, i'm a uni student in Australia, I study computer science/Commerce double degree. I'm a pretty well versed Java programmer and Web Developer(front end we development). My main focus is on internet security, i love making and toying around with anti viruses to see what are the flaws in them.

I havent played RS in a long long time, and have recently got back into it (sorta), but I want to make and publish my own scripts now, and there is no better community to start with :D

Also, as a Community I Love the way the users encourage others to start scripting and so on. From all your experience, I want to know a few things
1. How easy is it to learn this language?
2. How long did it take you to learn scripting?

This time around I will try to be more involved with the community, and help others the best i can!

Cheers,
Jjo204 :staycool:

Welcome @jjo204;

If you're studying compsci already then you should pick it up real quick. We mostly use a language called lape, which is pretty much the same as pascalscript, which is pretty much the same as FPC/delphi.

Read Coh3ns Simba tutorial (the one you were just looking at) or the most up-to-date rs3 ones are in my sig. As it happens there is a scripting competition for beginners going down, so if you manage to the hang of things in the next few weeks you should enter :)

With your background you'll pick it up in a day, but as we are all in a state of constant learning, it's hard to say how long it takes to learn how to script. If you do as Mayor suggested and read Con3n's tutorial and then the two of his, you'll be able to write any script you like with varying levels of effort.

When you find that there's something you just don't know how to do, post a question on the forum and you'll learn how to do it in no time.

Welcome to Villavu, I'm sure you'll love it here. I look forward to seeing your first script. ;)

Thanks guys for the welcome (although i have been here for a while)

I just skimmed though Coh3n tutorial (Which is amazing!) and so far it doesnt look too complicated. It follows the same structure as most programming languages. I will of course take time to familiarise myself with everything in due time (its THAT time of semester).

I just wanted to say I really appreciate the emphasis you give on helping people learn and only give people based on what they give back to the community rather than being focused on money and memberships! I think that's a great base for the SRL members community :D

EDIT: Just a quick question, Does Scar use Pascal as well? If not, is there much difference between Scar++ and Simba scripting?

Scar used pascalscript, which is the same as simba. The difference is simba also has a lape interpreter (which is a little different as it's pseudo OOP). You will notice this if you read any SRL6 tuts.

Welcome!

1) Very easy
2) As long as it takes to take some stabs at it!

I actually came here with next to no programming experience (just some macros for excel stuff) and I figured it out after a month or two of leeching :)
