ANNOUNCEMENT: Group project starting

bonsai

Calling For Volunteers!

We're kicking off a project to create a group script.

This post is to announce the project and see who might want to jump on board and be part of the team.

What will the script do?

The idea for the script is a multi-skill trainer for new characters. It will focus in the Taverly area where all the novice skills are available.

How do I join?

There's a skype group created for the project, interested people just add me and I will put you in the skype group:

bonsai.srl

But I'm not good enough

You do not need to be a programming expert to join, although we certainly need some folks who can write a script!

One of the goals is to try to have the Junior Members write most if not all of the code. There are a lot of senior members hopping on board to help with design and assist people as they do their assigned tasks.

If you don't script at all you might still be able to help with testing and quality control. I don't foresee interested helpers being turned away :)

But I don't know what I'm doing

Neither do we!!

Things are still disorganized, and, hey, they might stay that way. But we're going to have some fun and see what we can do.

Best,
Bonsai

Great respect and appreciation for @bonsai for having this project initiative. Anything that brings us closer together is awesome in my book.

Wait, has it been reworked again? Previously you couldn't train all skills there, so I guess it has. Interesting, I'll take a look at it this weekend :)

Yeah you can train most skills there, it's a nice little f2p add-on!

And P2P, honestly I think it's one of Jag's best updates. Especially for new players.

P2P players get access to everything F2P players have, hence why it's a F2P add-on ;)

Thanks. If enthusiasm is any sign this thing will be nice.

We're still collecting people who would like to participate

Hit me up on skype or pm me your email!

ALL PARTICIPANTS:

We have our first two tasks. Over the next few days each person should

* Sign up to the Team Roster on the shared drive
* Add your thoughts and ideas to the Features document

If you didn't get hooked up to the shared drive yet, yell out in skype.

There's was lots of interesting discussion yesterday, let's get those ideas into the document to move it forward!

Best,
Bonsai

All design material and documentation is on a shared google drive folder, and we are also using git. Plus there is a project management platform in use.

Bump for the overnight crowd. We could still use more people, and those who showed interest please participate. This is the time to get your input in.

If you're in, make sure you are

* In the skype group
* Attached to the shared drive
* Connected to the github

Everyone has the same assignment:

On the shared drive, update the roster document. Contribute any ideas you have to the design documents there. Create a design doc of your own for discussion.

Work is progressing and if you didn't get in gear you are missing out on core decisions.

Sort of reminds me of when the community came together and wrote an epic runespan script pretty much the day runespan came out. Having many people help out can speed things up a ton!

Hey all,

Sorry no status posted here in a while. Anyone in the skype group should be up to date but… we are at a point where things can get done, so if you have't caught up to me on skype this week, please do.

I'm re-collecting an interest list to see if it's still worth pursuing. Things died off for a month or so due to some personal issues on my end. Some people who had time in October may have wandered off to other things or not have time during the holidays.

I would say the junior member orientation of the project has become murky. Many of the Jr Members who were interested have become members in the mean time! And if there are members who want to help out, there's lots to be done.

But the goal of ensuring anyone who wants to participate finds a role is still important and easy to accomplish.

So hit me up on skype and let me know your interest. I'll see what sort of feedback I get this week.

Is this project still active? I would definitely be interested in getting my hands dirty in a group fashion. I know the basics to writing a script and figure this would have plenty of learning insight.

I'm not 100% sure but you can add me on skype and I'll show you what we've got.

A number of people still showed interest a few weeks ago when I re-polled but there's been no activity to speak of since then. People are generally busy this time of year so I don't know if it's lack of time, interest, or proper leadership! Probably that last one.

I can say if we don't have 3-5 people who are hot to make it happen, it probably won't. So far no one has taken that sort of interest. That's OK, too, it's not a bad thing. I think a lot of people are interested a little but not to the point where they're going to make it major focus.

As I said to people in my last query, we all have enough stress in our daily lives without needing to stress out over playing games. If people are busy taking their girlfriend out, playing with their kid, or studying for exams… well, they should be!!

This makes sense, especially around the holidays. What was the primary objective for a multi-skill script? How collaborative members could be?

Every new char unique = under the radar bots :) or to have chars that can do quests and combat while being unique = top GP/h methods :)

Sadly, I think it's safe to call the project dead at this point. I tried to get things kicking again in early December but it didn't yield results.

I'll probably work on it myself when the mood strikes me.

I would say the major goal for multi-skilling is to reduce bans. I think a script that does many things would trigger fewer alarms. Doing the same small task for hours gives them a lot of data to hone in on. If 100 people run the same miner it leads to 'hotspot' attention. If 100 people run a multiskill they will scatter around more randomly.

It also levels the character more normally. Few people join the game and start doing one thing all the time. And everyone looks at a 1/1/1/99/1/1/1 character as a bot.

From the user standpoint it's great. Imagine a script that knows how to do 300 things and you can pick and choose which ones to run for a session.

2015-01-29 19:48:34

Is this like wt-fawkai's script which switched between different things randomly & leveled them (making it more human like) or do you have to manually switch it

(the script was from LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago)

I would be willing to try and learn, I have some time on my hands if someone is willing to guide me on what I need to do and I will use guides and reference scripts already made.

I couldn't agree more.. it's definitely the best way to stay under the radar. I'd use one of these for a while before putting it onto a range of gold farming methods.
