The new RiD Genesis. (again)

Hi guys,
I was following the last thread and was interested in some of the coders and developers views, on here of what exactly RiD is doing with his new bot.
So he now has updated it twice, showing what the interface is going to look like and half explained what it can do.
Links to both parts of the introduction are here:
http://www.robotzindisguise.com/forum/showthread.php?24466-Introduction-to-the-Genesis-Interface-Part-1http://www.robotzindisguise.com/forum/showthread.php?24519-Introduction-to-the-Genesis-Interface-Part-2Is this majorly revolutionary?
Please keep this thread on point, it's nice to see people who have experience in coding share their views on it, as I haven't the nearest clue to understanding it. So the longer this thread is open the better as I enjoy both bots and communities.
Thanks guys.

IIRC, it was stated by one of the guys who came over here that.. and I quote: "You don't need to know programming to use it".. "You won't have to write any code".
I'd love for that guy to explain this:

because that right there.. is practically the heart of programming. I mean, if my mom knew logical and bitwise operations, I'd let her write all my code.
Now to explain one flaw in his "states".. He has:
1. Look for inventory item.
2. Wait until state change.
3. Login button.
The flaw is that there is no timeout for waiting on the state change. Something that you'd need to input manually because his interface has no such thing and we all know infinite loops are bad (most of the time).. right?
He has timers but his timers are for doing a task on tick and not for dispatching/breaking a state.
The selling point of his bot is that all the "details" are behind the scenes.. But such a thing does not allow fine-tuning which MANY scripts require.. Even reflection and injection scripts sometimes need a quick fine tune or bug fix.. It seems like you'd have to "re-calibrate" the whole thing if it is buggy.
That brings up the next thing.. What happens when there's a false positive? lol.. I mean.. That "landscaping" algorithm could NEVER be that good. I'd love to see it detect my position in
Alkharid desert flawlessly or even in the wild in that place that is ALL snow where you kill that majaratt thing.. The entire minimap is white there. All the same shade. No amount of calibration will give you an exact position there..
Finally, it says that the bot recognises what you do based on what you click.. So I'd love for him to explain how it could capture the entire button outline as well as the icons within them.. because let's be real. That's fake as hell..
Here's what I mean: (Look at state 3)

Now tell me.. how exactly could you get the entire bitmap of the button as well as its bounds based on how a normal player plays and just a few clicks.. The average player clicks NEAR center of the button (purplish part). I really doubt anyone clicks the bluish background around the purple icon.. as well as the brown outline.
Even with a flood-fill, there's no way he can get it that perfect. Can you imagine how slow this bot is? If that landscaping algorithm and all that other non-sense is real, let me tell you.. it's slower than SPS by far. Can you imagine how long calibration would take to get it perfect? Seriously.. it has a "chatbox" recognition, minimap recognition, item recognition, landscape recognition, noise filtering, etc.. and all with perfect tolerances and accuracy.. and not a single thing is hand/hard coded.. I'll believe it when Steve Jobs comes back from the grave..
I could only see this being done with OpenCV.. It'd be faster to write a script yourself than try and calibrate this thing.
All I have to say is.. Good luck to him. I
hope it's true but my brain says otherwise.
No offense, but this seems as if its pure speculation.
Like a marketing scheme, and the prices look absurd. Its gonna suck for those who have been buying subscriptions over there recently, because the amount of registered users, paying members, and guests has increased because of all the commotion.
The hype over this has been reaching its peak, with their 'expected' previous release dates never lived to their word.
Its been over 7 months since the first thread here was made, and that got locked 2 weeks ago.
By the time the 'actual' thing probably gets released, RS4, RS5, whatever new version of RS, will probably already be here, making his work obsolete.
Seems way too good to be true, and if it doesn't do what he claims to do, I would hope he's prepared to respond to why he put mislead statements in the first place.

Personally, the only thing that interests me about genesis is the biometric capture, since I'm working on one for Simba. Now I have something to one-up :)
Apart from that, this seems like a good product, and marketed very well. It's impressive to me that he's managed to keep people on his community waiting for over a year. He has a solid handle on the demographic uninterested in learning but just forking over cash to level their character. They can claim no bans have ever occurred, which attracts anyone not in the know about scripting and the general botting scene.
I was one of the people, previously sucked into his financial credits model, but unwilling to wait, and so I discovered SRL, and learned how to script. I now have come to understand that RiD was basically a thorough, RuneScape specific, well-marketed version of Simba and SRL, with biometrics. Now I am sucked into a free model :)
Genesis is the same, with added customization, to the point where it's almost a GUI for making a simba script (like if we had "Add Function" and "Add variable" buttons). Sort of what @Brandon was saying…it seems easier to me to just script rather than deal with this interface and have to pay for it.
If it was free then I still might not use it simply because I like being in complete control of what my script does, antiban wise and activity wise.
I mean no disrespect to RiD and wish him success with his product that he clearly has invested a lot of time into. I am sad, however, that this will suck in a ton of people's money while taking away their motivation to learn scripting entirely. But some people truly don't care for that, to each their own.

That's what biometric capture is. Every person has their own fingerprint when using a mouse or keyboard. Next-gen security is taking this direction as well. It's very possible, existing currently in a lot of non-botting related software and research projects. I'm developing it for Simba, because once this sort of thing is implemented, botting becomes truly undetectable apart from inhuman playing times and perhaps detecting clients, which are easily fixed by the user (browser botting and limiting usage).
And if we really want to be squeaky clean perfect, spoofing a USB mouse driver or something instead of sendInput.
Frequently I get a response on this project like I'm going overkill on antiban, but I say to that…why not just go all the way, if we can, and we have nothing to lose other than defense against any Botwatch system Jagex may update in the future?

Wow, thorough breakdown on the marketing scheme they have going here guys.
Thankyou for enlightening us with the facts Brandon.
As for the Biometrics ordeal, that sounds like an extremely complex concept to produce Clarity. It still amazes me what some of you are capable of achieving in simply botting this old game. It reminds me of the beginning of reinet and how OCR's opened up the possibility of afk botting again in rsc. Or when shell clients came about and allowed the first bot army's. All to eventually come back to color, back to SCAR. Sure it was shite compare to AR, but it definitely goes to show how far it's come. I will always be impressed by each of the developers involved here and on other projects ambition and drive. Keep it up guys, there has always been a few of us that came back just to look in awe and dabble.

If you have to do that many clicks and construct states you might as well just write a normal script..
A while ago I worked on a "Smart" Tasker that "records" your clicks and build states based on that. I have yet to finish it but the state recording worked pretty well (reflection).

It still won't be as good as a good Simba private script running in the browser, Because there will be thousands of people doing similar movements and using the default (free) bots on RID.
I have to admit that I did use an RID bot to get my fishing above 65 on OSRS in early 2013, but I switched to Simba because I like the security of being able to see what exactly is in the script i'm running and have the ability to edit something if I believe it is somewhat dodgy (bannable)
Maybe if this turns out to be so good that Jagex can't ban anyone running it, they will just try to sue RID for all they've (he's?) got, like they did with powerbot :)

I'd like to see how it can "calibrate" a MSI-style script, or anything more complicated than a "chopper-dropper". It looks like you might be able to record yourself power-mining, or (if you're lucky) walking to a bank, but I doubt you can "record" a script that completes 10 different skills, transverses 6-7 different lodestones, 15 different walking paths, 7 different banks, supports player switching, custom breaks, custom world selection, live stats tracking, mule trading, grand exchange navigation, no ridiculous GUIs, AIO l33tness, 100% colour and 100% free. I still have a fair bit of interface work to do, and there's various rough edges that need to be smoothed out, and it's still difficult to predict anything. What I can confirm, is that I will not try to be too elaborate at this point. It's business time, and I won't be spontaneously adding in anything huge that will extend release by several months at this point.
Ideally, we'll be into the beta testing phase by Christmas, and during that process we'll begin to get an accurate idea where we are in terms of final release date.
So my advice for anyone checking this thread constantly for updates, would be to come back and check this thread around Christmas time, and see what the news is by then.
Thanks again everybody for your patience.
From: RiD
I was hoping to release some functionality last Christmas, but it would have been a hybrid of the old and new systems and would have been fairly limited and distracted from the main Genesis project. Ultimately that idea was thrown out.
Regarding Genesis, yes we've seen a few extensions now, but any predictions I've made have always been with the caveat that the plans are fluid and subject to change. For example, draft 1 Genesis used a 'landmark' system to control navigation, where each time a user would make a bot they had to point out landmarks on the map, manually. Then had to assign a grid position to each landmark, and the bot could still get lost if no landmarks were visible on-screen.
Extending the release has allowed the development of the 'internal GPS' system, where the bot can read maps and landscapes, in real-time. It's a significant upgrade on draft 1, and there have been a few other areas I've been able to improve since draft 1.
We're actually on draft 3 now, but the end result will be significantly better than it would have been, had we focused purely on a quick release.

We do, I've used RiD for 4 years, and I've never received a ban or warning, or anything. There's only been a handful of bans on RiD, the veterans of the RiD community have trust in RiD, as we've had the past 4 years.
I have trust in RiD, and I can understand how someone else who isn't a veteran of RiD or used his bots can believe it's just a marketing scheme.
My main thing with Simba, is that you need a really really really good script to not receive a ban. Personally I've gotten many bans from using Simba, even from the most popular scripts. You either need to have a private scripter or know how to script to create a bot that won't get you a ban. So in the end players come to use bots because they don't want to spend the time grinding the game, which is fair, however with Simba you need to figure out a new programming language, and spend several weeks learning it. Which isn't appealing. I've tried programming with Simba in the past, and to correctly emulate Human Mouse movements for a good solid script is a pain and will take time. Once SRL is updated enough to make it a lot easier, something simple as "HumanMoveMouse(true, left);", I don't see why someone should use Simba if they don't want bans. Random Mouse Movements isn't Human.
I've suggested others in the RiD Chatbox to check out Simba, and see if it's to their liking over TriBot and PowerCrap.
In the end I will choose RiD over Simba, because I have used RiD for 4 years, and I have trust in the programmer. We've waited a year+ before for him to revamp all of his bots, and in the end he comes out with what he promised.

There are timeouts waiting on the state changes as well as for dispatching/breaking a state (RiD has stated this himself). However, they are not shown to users in the interface. The idea is to have a simple interface to allow users to add or modify parts of the bot without having to recalibrate. The interface will also allow you to define new environments (i.e. for other games), and that process will be detailed in part 3 of the thread when it is released. I'll state again that modifying the bot is not required at all. A novice user could simply calibrate then start their bot immediately without making changes.

Yeah this was my thinking (as a vet myself) until I realized it was a waste of money for somewhat increased quality, when everything here is free and ultimately more customizable than genesis. Plus, here you receive incredible, personal education in numerous languages depending on what you choose to pursue here (writing scripts, extensions, modding Simba, web server/live stats creation, etc).
Also, I've some have asked why I've gone quiet on my long term script projects (DG, etc)…I've taken an interest in making some tools after the DTM Generator. Expect free public release of this in a month or so:

While this will automatically add my biometric antiban to generated scripts (entirely designed in GUI), users will have the benefit of seeing the exported script to modify as they please.
Additionally, there will be a tutorial mode that will explain exactly how things are being added to a script when done via Origins.
The main purpose of this will be to make learning to script less intimidating for newcomers, while at the same time giving shortcut tools to experienced scripters who know everything but cba to write yet another paintProgress or while attempts < 5 do if findColorsSpiralTolerance then etc. procedure.

The issue is you have botters who are not willing to learn a programming language. As much as I believe it is something you should learn as we are getting into a very techy generation, people don't have the time or just aren't willing to. I don't have the patience to learn Pascal and script with Simba, I tried and I didn't like it. For a botter who doesn't want to spend time on learning how to script, RiD is the choice.
However Genesis may take that place, as it will be simple, and yet have that option to customize it. I have faith in RiD, and I believe if he doesn't complete his goal he will refund anyone who wants a refund, there's already been several Unlimited Refunds in the past few months.
I like the users work here, but it isn't appealing to botters who just want to bot and not be banned.
So I hope you guys can successfully come out with the stuff I've seen users make threads about, I think it'd be a big step for Simba.

"Modify" parts of the bot without having to re-calibrate it. Really? The entire bot requires calibration in the first place. If you're not calibrating it, you're coding it. If you're not coding it, how exactly are you modifying it?
Surely you see the dilemma here?

Much of what Brandon was pointing out was the mere logistics of how it could accomplish all the things it claims by simply watching you play. I could see much of it (although wow, there would be some ridiculous calculations to create the bitmaps necessary for many of the described capabilities - that doesn't make them impossible). But what I can't see is it accomplishing this in real-time. While it 'watches you play' it would have to build up a massive RAM storage and spend hours decoding your activity to make a resulting script. I honestly doubt 16GB of RAM would be enough to create a script of any large size like Slayer or any other large activity.

Well for one RiD isn't done, he still has work to do on the interface. This is only the alpha version, however he's confirmed that there will not be coding required for a normal user to run the bot.
How it'll work is there will be a button in the GUI to record you playing Runescape, the bot will watch your movements and what you do, and everything, then emulate it, but will act just like if you were playing the game, so say if a random pops up it'll solve that random, if there is something wrong it'll fix it. However, if there is something wrong with the bot, you can easily change it in the other GUI sections. So something like adding valuable drops could be added as a state.
RiD's bots weren't necessarily scripts, they were basically AI's. He's practically creating an AI that will watch you play and say "Hey, I can do that now that I've learned how to!"
People have created Robots with AI's that learn from what they see, RiD is creating a virtual robot that does the same thing, but for games. It's very much possible.

However, if there is something wrong with the bot, you can easily change it in the other GUI sections. So something like adding valuable drops could be added as a state.
RiD's bots weren't and aren't a script, RiD programs AI's. He is creating an AI that will watch you play and say "Hey, I can do that now that I've learned how to!"
People have created Robots with AI's that learn from what they see, RiD is creating a virtual robot that does the same thing, but for games. It's very much possible.
People created what? You mean massive
companies like Intel and IBM. Not regular people like RID. A single person does not achieve such a feat, described in his posts (in a few months).
1. No programming or scripting required. A regular user doesn't even need knowledge of it (then explain the logical operators?)
2. Just calibrations required.
3. There's a GUI for every scenario and glitch that could occur.
4. There's a landscaper that works so fast with little memory usage.
5. It detects your positions with no mistakes (anywhere).
6. To get all these wonderful features, just let it watch you play.
7. If there is a glitch or mistake or you mis-clicked something while playing, you can patch it through an interface that somehow is designed for such a scenario that you can patch it without coding. You know.. Just time skip the glitch part right? Everything will still run smoothly.
8. There's a state breaking dispatch system but isn't displayed to the user and requires no coding to modify it.
9. All of this works in a
Java virtual machine and is on par with Reflection & Injection bots.. Hell.. it's faster than Simba's COMPILED code and plugins (SPS) and has all of the above features.. all designed by RID himself. No OpenCV; nothing..
10. Works for any and EVERY game.
Even IBM Watson required dictionaries to play Jeopardy and was very specific to that game. It even required RE-CALIBRATION to become a medical specialist. We're talking about a regular bot that runs for any game and can run on all computers. Even Matthew Fischer's Starcraft AI isn't as advanced as what RID is describing.. And let me tell you.. that's the most advanced gaming AI on the internet thus far:
http://graphics.stanford.edu/~mdfisher/D3D9Interceptor.html and
http://graphics.stanford.edu/~mdfisher/GameAIs.html and even then, this AI is GAME SPECIFIC and requires HOOKS. Something RID's bots does NOT have.. RID's bots does not even have Regression learning.. come on.. It's literally described as a recorder. He hasn't even said a word about designing an engine..
I'm going to have to pass on this one. I don't mean any dis-repect to him or anyone.. but I say it how I see it. Let me just say one thing, this bot most likely uses Java's 2D Graphics (AKA WinAPI/X11.. not Direct-X, not OpenGL.. plain old WinAPI/X11).

Really? Simba has, and always will have the lowest ban rates of all RS botting communities. Bot detection has changed a lot since 2013. A script that was once undetectable is now detectable. The few bans that do occur are from scripts that
are detectable, and these are usually scripts that people release as they are
learning. A well written simba script can run 24/7 without any bans. How do I know this? I have
months of evidence.
Why hasn't anyone been banned recently with RiD? Well, that's obvious; RiD has been down for more than a year. If you used RiD as it was in 2013, you'd most likely get banned.

I honestly doubt 16GB of RAM would be enough to create a script of any large size like Slayer or any other large activity.
This. Genesis looks like it will be successful with simple tasks, but to "calibrate" for dungeoneering, slayer, high level PvM, etc. seems very far fetched. I'll believe it when I see it.
In a way the secrecy bothers me because ultimately the only thing that Jagex can do with completely known source code is watch for patterned behavior, which is cancelled out if biometrics are in play. There's no loss in revealing how RiD works even in layman's terms, even with a lot of specifics. The black box security aspect is only necessary to a certain point.
For Jagex to benefit in any way from leaked RiD source, they would also need the biometric data, which is unique to every user and therefore unobtainable. Even if they made some "DETECT RID" botwatch built by reverse engineering RiD's source, it would be useless.
Here at SRL we are fine with completely published source and no biometric data.
I suppose that leaves potential to lose money as the reason for total secrecy. Shame. Seems like good work.

Ah, yeah, they had gone down due to the RiD Divination bot receiving quite a number of bans. One might say that this was a fluke in the RiD script, which is the exact equivalent of the situation here: well-made simba scripts never receive bans. The one's with mistakes do. A perfect analogy, I think.

As Clarity said, there was a flaw with divi. That flaw was clicking a tree sometimes, which can be easily detected. After that event RiD took down the bots as he believed it wasn't safe enough. The bot alone was in beta, and wasn't suggested to users to use.
There has only been a max of 100 bans overall in 6 years with RiD. However putting a ban rate on simba is quite hard. I can believe it if you talk about private scrips only, but a public bot including any public scripts for Simba, i'd say it has the second lowest ban rate. I myself have gone through 20 accounts using scripts available here, that ended up being banned. I've had friends use scripts they find here for goldfarming, and they go through 10-15 accounts. You cannot say Simba is the best because it's open-source but then ignore public released scripts when putting a ban rate on said bot program.
RiD has been here since 2008, and 90% of the overall bans with RiD were from the flaw with the divi bot. I myself spent 15 hours a day running the divi bot and I was never caught. I was able to get 99 div in less than a month.

No, they aren't covered up. If RiD has been detectable for awhile and it was all a lie, then there wouldn't be a community. There wouldn't be users who spend money and support him. RiD Bots in 2013 were free, his overall system was in a beta stage as they needed updating. He made all bots free to use, you could still buy Credits but it was free to use bots.
Yes, i'm sure multiple threads were deleted at the time of the Divi ban, however they didn't lie to the community and say there wasn't a problem. There are multiple communities that hate RiD and cannot stand that RiD is a thing, for example the admins and mods at Powerbot would always troll and cause some sort of trouble at RiD. There have been multiple arguments between RiD and Paris, all still in the archives. Point is, there are many people out there that create wrongful threads. Saying they got banned and want a refund, when they haven't used the bot at all. It even shows up next to their name if they've used to bot even once.
If they were trying to hide something, there would have been evidence of it already. Every thread made on the forum is broadcasted in the Chatbox, where the core of the community is, and there is a minimum of 2 people in the chatbox 24/7. If there was a cover up, it would have been found by now. RiD has been going for 6 years now, again if they were hiding something it would have been found by now.

That was the "Ban Wave"… it's the largest RiD has ever encountered. If you're talking about the incident where RiD had encountered about 5-10 bans all happening at the same time, he took the bots down, he needed to update them as they were outdated and was indeed detectable. These posts are getting off-topic, so I'm done replying to you on this thread.

I'm sure it will, it did previously with his old bots. I'm sure he will have general support for it, as that'd greatly limit session times.
EDIT: Thanks for the fix, apologies for the double post
Some people on here are so biased towards Simba it completely clouds your judgment. There's so much false information being spread on here it just makes me cringe, by both RiD and villavu members. Shame on you all.

We don't need an RiD whiteknight (*cough* Trent *cough*) going on every forum defending our software. It's a lost cause especially when the people you are arguing with have barely used RiD and don't know much about the program.

What if I told you RID clouds YOUR judgement? Where's the false information? No one here mentioned Simba other than to compare SPS to the landscaper and give a vague speed comparison.. Are we not supposed to compare? How would you know something is good without something else to compare it to? It's called a discussion thread for a reason. Not a bashing thread. I don't see anyone bashing RID.
There's not much to know about a closed sourced program that's still in development with only 2 threads in existence (on the entire interwebs) and a fee requirement to test it. Hence.. "discussion".

I realize and appreciate you are trying to mediate two angrily heated groups and prevent ignorance on both sides, but I feel like you betray yourself due to points discussed by Brandon.
Also, personally I am quite familiar with RiD after using it for a long time before discovering SRL. I won't speak for others on that matter, but I don't like being generalized into a blind Simba fanboy category when I'm really trying to informatively compare the two options from years of experience with each.

While certainly this is not a lot compared to the Hero rank and RiD mod levels of experience, I'd like to think this makes me qualified to assess RiD's abilities and uses as a RuneScape bot versus Simba, in addition to knowledge of both RiD and SRL's usage policies and guidelines.
If you were referring to ignorant RiD users who discuss RiD without much knowledge then never mind.
PSA to both sides:
Let's stop with the spam accounts? Both SRL and RiD are guilty of it. It makes everyone look stupid, and destroys both sides' arguments in immaturity.
@Brandon and Clarity. My comment was directed towards the people who make dumb claims without any proof, such as mods covering up bans and RiD users trying to teach Simba users how the program works. Very false information being spread everywhere.
RiD himself occasionally deletes threads where people claim to have gotten hammered with RiD. We have records for every user, and most of them have 10 hours spent on the bot and later we discover that these people have used powerbot in the past. These kind of 'RiD got me banned' threads have no validity so we delete them to prevent people getting second thoughts about using RiD. If people legit got banned left and right and we covered it up, it would be a wide known fact by now.
1000 hours, not bad. "I'd like to think this makes me qualified to assess RiD's abilities" I'd say you are definitely experienced enough.
Anyway, I'm not against speculation about how Genesis will work. Discuss it all you want, I don't mind.

The main purpose of this will be to make learning to script less intimidating for newcomers, while at the same time giving shortcut tools to experienced scripters who know everything but cba to write yet another paintProgress or while attempts < 5 do if findColorsSpiralTolerance then etc. procedure.
Now this is exciting.

Supposedly it is on the third draft? I can see more drafts coming with lots of 'Next Gen' Features being removed with a TBA date on them.
RiD has stated that there won't be any major changes from the third draft.

I do hope this bot delivers. It reminds me of when Ibot / Nexus was coming out. They would post pictures and videos of the great technology (which was amazing at the time). It's also strange that all these features are going into the bot to avoid detection - maybe he got some insider info from a jmod?

You don't really need insider info to consider implementing biometrics :p it's the logical endgame of antiban, with currently available technology.

The main purpose of this will be to make learning to script less intimidating for newcomers, while at the same time giving shortcut tools to experienced scripters who know everything but cba to write yet another paintProgress or while attempts < 5 do if findColorsSpiralTolerance then etc. procedure.
This sounds pretty damn awesome and would absolutely encourage me to learn to script. Currently with school, working 40 hours a week and having a girlfriend/friends that want to hang out during my free time, it is hard to find the motivation or time to learn to script. This is the only reason RiD is appealing to me, a quality bot with a hopefully very low if not non-existent ban rate that doesn't require learning to script to enjoy all the benefits. That being said I would still much rather use a bot I fully understood and was able to customize that had an equally low ban rate. It's not that I think I couldn't create a functioning script with the time I have, it's just that I think I couldn't do it well and fully understand everything without sacrificing all of my limited free time. Personally I started using Simba so I would spend LESS time on the computer when I don't have to worry about school or work and focus on doing the things I want to do in the real world. I'm not sure spending hours learning to write/writing scripts for the game I am trying to avoid playing so much is really helping me accomplish that goal haha. Origins seems like it may very likely make the whole learning experience much less daunting and really be a game changer for Simba.

The end-all of this entire discussion is that there's no proof of anything.
We haven't seen dick aside from a few GUI screenshots. And past experience can never prove the future, look at powerbot.
Having a good bot a like having a penis. It's great to have one, and great to be proud of it. But please don't wave it around all over other communities' forums.
I personally used RiD pre-Genesis for several weeks. In my experience, it's quite literally nothing more than a glorified mouse recorder. That's not to say that Genesis won't be great, I plan to at least try it out if/when it's released. But on the same note, I plan to try out RSBot 7 if/when it's released.
Point being, discussing something that doesn't exist doesn't accomplish a lot. We should stick to what works (Simba) for now and let the devs do their thing. After we've actually got something to discuss, then let's discuss.

What doesn't accomplish anything is flaming and bashing, but sharing ideas about possible workings of something so secretive isn't bad at all.

The whole biometrics concept is overrated and blown out of proportion. There is absolutely no way you can define and act/mimic upon an individuals game-play in a short amount of time by recording an hour worth of playtime. There are so many obstacles that need to be dealt with, every skill, with every situation. Time of day, fatigue, friends, even distractions.
Most people believe anti-ban works, but we don't know this for sure. I've run terrible scripts for months with no consequences. And I've also run private scripts that look amazing with bad outcomes for the accounts. There are more factors that come into play than randomly checking your stat xp and moving the mouse a little bit. Even if biometrics proves to be endgame of antiban, RS will eventually combat it. RSC sleep captcha, RS2 randoms, dividing ess into two seperate items (pure, regular) are all examples of combating botting issues when they could not detect them. I can see something like this happening again if biometrics proves to be what it's hyped up as.
The biggest obstacle botters face today is not the code, not the client, but the humans in-game that can detect them. Right now, botting has a bad rep. A high ban rate. Therefor, many players in game are human and will happily report a bot.
The worst thing Runescape has done is create bonds. Bonds allow bots to be self sufficient. A few hours of botting to get 14 days of membership free - big deal if you get banned. I foresee bonds being removed IF goldfarming bots become a big issue again.

RiD is using a Markov model to achieve this. For those who aren't familiar with them, this Stanford assignment gives a nice introduction:
http://see.stanford.edu/materials/icspacs106b/H16-Assign2ADTs.pdf To be more precise, RiD is implementing this with a finite state machine model.

We have no script that uses it.. We'd have produce one for no reason at all because RID uses it. I don't know.. but your request seems to be rubbing it in our face, that RID uses some "algorithm" that we don't use.. IMO.. I can't see "just interest" in your request because if RID wasn't using it, you wouldn't be asking (specifically on this thread). Most likely, the request (like all others) would be in the programming or coding sections. I'm not attacking you, I'm just not seeing "just interest".
Remember that this isn't a war on who uses better algorithms or which bot is better. This thread is about RID's new bot and whether or not it can be done.
Also, please don't forget, you said you'd notify me when RID releases something. I'll be waiting. I never forget a promise :) I check this thread often just to see if you've replied because I somehow don't get the notifications when you quote me :S

I've taken the time to read through every post on this thread and ultimately I'm disappointed… with both the behavior from RiD's community and this one. Yes, valid points have been presented by both sides, but at the same time, much misinformation is being thrown around from both sides as well.
Ultimately, there is nothing either side can do right now except speculate what is or isn't realistic. Fighting over a black-boxed project (and by this I mean where much of the development progress is hidden), is folly and makes *almost* everyone involved appear foolish.
Given the lengthy development cycle (Sept 2013 - Present), I can understand the skepticism that many may be feeling. I personally have been part of the RiD community since April of 2010, and have used his bots for quite a bit of time on 3 accounts (1-85 mining on the 1st, 99 fletching & 94 divination on a 2nd, and my main clocked the remaining time). You'll notice Unlimited, which was purchased as part of Lifetime VIP for Genesis.

I have also experienced injection and reflection bots for an additional 6,000 hours on top of this, none of which touched those 3 accounts (except 94 dungeoneering on the main, iDung <3). This is not to brag or flaunt anything, it is merely to make the point that I have experienced a wide variety of botting platforms. Ultimately, I don't feel like learning Pascal, and I have had years to experience and appreciate RiD's programming abilities. This is not to say that he is a God of any sort, but merely that his reputation has built with me, and many others, and that is a huge reason behind why so many choose to remain loyal to him.
I guess the final point I'm making is that fighting among communities is not the wisest of ideas, as Simba and RiD have incredibly much in common and I like to see us as cousins of the botting industry. We should strive not for division, but for peaceful interaction. I'm sure many of you are entirely satisfied with the experience you receive here, and I'm happy for you. If you enjoy what you have here, then by all means carry on with what makes you happy as a botter. Everyone has their own cup of tea, their wants, their needs, their priorities. What works for one may not work for another. We're all in Jagex's cat-and-mouse game together, so let's not waste time and energy fighting each other.
I don't intend to fill this thread with arguments, but if anyone wishes to have
civil discussions you can reach me on Skype: TrentFromRiD

I fairly well agree with you and by no way do I condone people being straight up douches about the subject. However, when presented with things like
this, it becomes easy for less critical thinkers to simply jump to the "That's impossible! Lying POS RiD #$*(!$@"
People are always going to jump to conclusions based on random circumstance. I mean, reasonably that's how the anti-vax and "global-warming is a lie" movements are going. But to back up this case again, we do have critical thinkers showing how incredibly
improbable the whole process and concept is with today's technology. Very improbable, but not impossible. It would be beyond incredible if it was real as described. I mean on par with inventing the first computer level of incredible - which obviously happened, as improbable as the entire generation of people believed it.
I will however say, I do see this as reasonably possible describing most things he's claimed if it's no longer in color and is instead injection/reflection/interception. If he's swapped his whole design process to one of those, I actually can see the whole project being completed by a single person within a matter of months.

Choice-supportive biasPost-purchase rationalizationHonestly if I had spent as much money on RiD as some have, I can totally understand their loyalty - it's basic psychology.
The cool thing about SRL is that it's all free, so we don't fall prey to these nasty biases. We can look at this stuff a bit more rationally (as per Brandon's post, etc).
But anyway, yeah, I've had a similar botting experience to Trent!'s. RiD, when it was running, was a good product. Loyalty is great and all, but it took me less than a month to learn how to script last year, when I got tired of waiting for Genesis. Now I've done everything I would ever do with Genesis, and beyond. And now I'm making a massive profit. Met some awesome people who taught me web design and other languages, and helped me start a gold farm. All for free. Win win.
People I have been mentoring are also taking similarly short times to learn how to script. People have nothing to lose by learning SRL scripting while they wait for Genesis. I guess there will be the people who "cba to learn" but I just can't fathom paying for botting anymore. Let alone, paying for bots that restrict themselves like RiD does (RiD is against goldfarming, and therefore limited bot usage to one instance of each activity).
Again, I'm not bashing RiD. I just find it odd that so many people have been sitting around doing nothing rather than pursuing alternatives while they wait for the product they trust. Why the resistance and spammy trolling?

I'd be surprised if he were banned; link me to the banned profile? It will still exist if he is banned.
Also, much worse than what he posted has been posted before, as well as discussed in the chatbox, by other users. It has been tolerated and I've yet to witness any bans to any user who did not register, or visit only to cause commotion on this topic. There is a permanent 10-point infraction option for users who come to the forums only to cause a ruckus. There's a difference between intelligent/civil discussions and stirring the pot for reactions.

Mods have consistently deleted my posts that discuss Genesis, complimenting RiD and wishing him well on the project, while also sometimes addressing ridiculous claims made about SRL. Don't see why they need to be deleted.
Transparency is usually the best policy. It makes sense for mods to delete "RID SUCKS POWERBOT 4 LYFE!!!!!!!" but not to delete mature conversation analyzing the Genesis product.

Honestly I'd probably consider asking for a refund around the 24 month mark. If it was still under development then, I know he would still honor my refund request. If I were to get a refund, I would still have 1300 credits left, so I'd still be able to bot for quite awhile before I needed to purchase any subscriptions.

Lifetime VIP - $165
Credits purchased & used - ~$125-150
Credits leftover - ~$86
Donated - $211
Ultimately, most of the money I spent there was spent when I had a ridiculous amount of money ($40k+) so I didn't mind spending it. Before that I was given a lot of free hours through closed betas, referrals, contests, and giveaways. Sure, it's still a good bit of cash, but from what I received and achieved with the bots I don't regret spending what I did.

Figured I'd throw my answer/opinion in here as well.
RiD hasn't really put deadlines on Genesis, he's only put ETA's. Users will usually say "wtf rid why no eta" when he doesn't provide an ETA, and when he does he also gets bashed when his ETA isn't correct. Programming can be very unpredictable, and RiD likes to have his product perfect. So I can't really blame him when there's another delay, to me it's like saying "Alright, well in order to get Genesis running and running without any issues, I need more time" Which is perfectly fine to me. RiD does also have a life, what he does isn't his job, it's his hobby. Things can come up, and he could be busy for several weeks without any free time to work on Genesis.
I bought Lifetime VIP/Unlimited for about 300$, and if there still isn't any more information on Genesis by 24 months, I will ask for a refund. I know RiD will honor the refund, I have that much trust and loyalty. However, we've (VIP's) recently were given access to basically a pre-Alpha Genesis, which gave me a lot more faith in RiD.

I assume most if not all of that is goldfarming? I mean I haven't goldfarmed in years but that still takes up most of the 6,000 non-RiD hours. I feel like comparing goldfarmed hours to RiD user's hours isn't really a logical comparison. No one running RiD is using it for a goldfarming operation, it's all personal use. Now I'm sure there are plenty of people here who have botted several thousand hours for personal use, but that's really not my point.
My point is that the cost isn't the point for many RiD users. Some people don't have an issue with paying a premium for a satisfying experience. And it comes back to what I said before:

It's not like Villavu is some hidden Atlantis that no one knows how to get to. If these people are comfortable with paying money for the experience they get, then their loyalty and preference is clear. Let people do whatever they want, whether or not it's Simba, RiD, PowerBot, whatever. If you're happy with your decision, awesome. But keep in mind what keeps you happy won't necessarily keep others happy.

You're surely right about that Trent!, it's all personal preference. It doesn't look like anyone here is suggesting ultimately one is better than the other, it seems like they're just bringing up personal experience with Simba, as are you with your RiD experience. Nothing wrong with that at all. I've never used RiD before but I have far more respect for it over the other money-grubbing giants out there.
I think we could have a very lengthy public discussion comparing the two programs (RiD & Simba) including experience but this thread isn't the place for that. I'm all for such a discussion but let's try to keep this thread on track and related to RiD Genesis, shall we?

End of January update:
In the last update I spoke about the bot's visual processing. The sheer amount of information on the screen takes time to process, and if you are examining the screen several times per second in order to react to events in real-time, it becomes even more of a challenge. That is, of course, easily overcome through interpolation and using the bot's knowledge of it's task to determine what parts of the screen are more important than others, at a given time. I have pretty much finished that code now, any adjustments required at this point to further speed things up, will likely only be minor updates. The result is impressive, and in addition to the GUIs this is another key component of Genesis in a condition where it's ready to go!
With these things out the way, I was able to resume working on bot calibration last week, which from my point of view is the most interesting part of the code to work on. It's also much lighter in terms of 'volume' of work compared to other areas of the code, however this is still a very important area, and offers challenges. This is the last thing to finish off, and is the area I will be working on from now, up until beta.
Regarding the release of beta, ViP members will be invited to participate from the beginning, then after that it will filter down through the ranks, and during this time there will be some server updates/upgrades before the bot goes on sale and becomes available to new members.
As to when beta testing will commence, it's difficult to say… so as I did last month I won't make a prediction, I will just say that if you haven't heard from me before, I will post an update here in the diary at the end of February to let you know in more detail what I've been up to and where we're at. In the meantime, it's safe to assume that things are going well, no I'm not on a vacation haha, we're progressing, but there's just nothing new to report that hasn't already been said in the previous update.

After some months now.. and then some, he finally realises how slow the "processing" was going to be? No way.. What gave it away?
To realise this, this late in the game is well.. I don't have words. Secondly, if we assume that all the "features" such as recognition of every interface as well as walking and GPS positioning on a grand scale, such as this project, there's no way this could possibly be a surprise after so much time has already passed..
Talk about stating the obvious. Of course "the sheer amount of information on the screen takes time to process if you are examining the screen several times per second". Of course "it's another key component in addition to GUIs". This is OBVIOUS to anyone writing a screen scraping project from the very start. At least he "finished that code now".. Kudos to him.
I'm going to go ahead and quote myself a couple months back:
From: Brandon
Can you imagine how slow this bot is?
- November 2014. We're in February 2015 now.
This isn't a news update to anyone here at villavu or any other community. This is a flash back to the past. But again, I still wish him the best because if it does happen then he proves everyone wrong. Including myself.

I'm a VIP on RiD, and RiD has basically given us a pre-alpha of Genesis. All I'm going to say, since it is in a private forum, is that it works and it works very well. It isn't slow at all, it's actually very responsive. The analyzing does take a minute at most, it isn't very well optimized, but it is just a pre-alpha. It can walk around without shitting itself.. kinda. The scanning is kinda funky, it only really works for OSRS, and it was meant for both RS3 and OSRS, however it hasn't been updated since he started working on Genesis (Almost 2 years now).
By "analysing" do you mean calibration?
It should NOT only work for OSRS and RS3, but every other game according to this link and without any programming knowledge at all.. "There's nothing tying it down to Runescape". So then why is everything so tightly coupled to working with RS?
The product should work for everything as advertised:
http://www.robotzindisguise.com/forum/showthread.php?23705-Development-Diary-RiD-Genesis-a-new-botting-platformFor 2 years of work, it's still pre-alpha, and only now did he realise how slow processing was going to be.. His words, not mine. That's worse than I thought it was. I was under the impression that development was only going on for 5 months.. At that rate, it will take FOREVER.
But if you say it works, only time will tell if it is "finished". I'm not sure you can consider a "pre-alpha" project "working". Partially yes.
Trent!
2015-02-01 04:34:53
Twinki is wrong about the VIP bot being a "pre-alpha Genesis." The VIP bot has been around long before Genesis was being developed. Its capabilities are incredibly limited due to the fact that it was an alpha bot for mods only, which happened to still work during Genesis development, and has not received any updates for over a year and a half, nor will it receive any. Twinki is assuming too much when he assumes the "connection" between the VIP bot and Genesis.
To put it simply, the VIP bot is completely unrelated to Genesis, and does not utilize anything similar to the calibration system which Genesis is said to use.
Note: it's also against policy for Twinki to give you specifics on the VIP bot, so if he does I'd love for you to notify me of that.

I don't really understand why people think this will turn out to be a scam. RiD has always been legit and always released what he's promised.
I've known him 'personally' really well for over 5 years, he's a really cool dude when he puts aside the professional side of him.
I remember many years ago we were in the exact same situation. He was rewriting the MTA bot completely, added lots of new security features, rewrote the mouse movements and it took ages.
There were lots of delays and people were doubting he could get it done. He did deliver! Don't doubt the man, I know he will deliver this thing too *thumbs up*

On that last bit, everything RiD has ever worked on with bots has been backed up safely. He even has access to code and image files back from his first version of MTA (2007). People know this and because of this, any kind of claim as you mentioned would not be accepted by the community, and RiD knows this.

Even if that did happen, I paid for VIP so long ago that the scamming wouldn't really bother me, but I would be pissed that we were made to believe that there was going to be an outstanding bot at the end of the wait for so long. (If that makes sense.)
I don't think that he would do that though.
Just waiting for this alpha testing this month… (Which wouldn't surprise me if we get told it'll be later.)

"Mid March progress update:
In the past couple weeks, since the last update, I have been back working on bot calibration… in particular, interpreting information from 3D graphics during the calibration session. With the possibility of day/night cycles in the 3D environment, I decided to switch up the design a little, and added the framework for a system that identifies and reads information from 3D objects, without relying so much on colors. This makes it easier to bot in monochrome areas, such as Rimmington clay mines, and makes it possible to bot effectively in environments where day/night cycles and colors may vary widely. It was a fairly simple update, which hasn't added much onto the development time.
We are still due to alpha test some features of Genesis, around the end of March, or thereabouts. During alpha testing, we will be calibrating bots in various areas, and verifying the bot picked up the correct information and created an appropriate bot to carry out the task. Note that alpha testing is for ViP members, and only involves testing parts of the bot. The bot will not be fully operational until we enter the beta phase.
I will be continuing to work on bot calibration, up until the point we begin alpha testing. That shouldn't be long. I will give my next diary update at the end of the month, and when alpha testing is ready I will post a thread in the ViP area, with all the information you need if you'd like to take part.
Thank you."

Finally, people can post actual results instead of just speculation. Quite curious to see how things will turn out.
I wonder if there's anyone here that could post their results from running it.

Except it seems from the post that there won't be any "results" it will just be "Well it debugged a bit of information so that was nice". It doesn't really seem like many features are ready for testing yet. "Calibrating" just means "grabbing information and checking the information it grabbed was correct". It should theoretically mean an improvement in the object detection process but it isn't actually going to do anything by the sounds of it.

Love how simple RJ summed it up, to be honest RiDs jargon had me baffled for a while. I was also supremely impressed by his idea until I wrote a basic script using The Mayors Tuts.
I believe something like Genesis will be done here in the not so distant future. There are many great minds here that aren't secretive and share and improve together.

I think Trent! meant "Neutral API", and not "Neutral Language" because a language itself is already neutral (unless designed for only a specific subset of hardware or software) but the API & ABI is very specific to an application (Think SRL or the Reflection include.. which is very Runescape specific aka API/Game specific). This is what happens when RiD, et al, uses "jargon" to explain simple things..
However, I'm not sure if RiD is still going for API & ABI neutrality (non game specific code/scripts) because his calibration and testing (and everything else) seems awfully specific to RS. Even the screenshots are of RS and not some other game.

And let me tell you.. that's the most advanced gaming AI on the internet thus far: http://graphics.stanford.edu/~mdfish...terceptor.html and http://graphics.stanford.edu/~mdfisher/GameAIs.html and even then, this AI is GAME SPECIFIC and requires HOOKS. Something RID's bots does NOT have.. RID's bots does not even have Regression learning.. come on.. It's literally described as a recorder. He hasn't even said a word about designing an engine..
Brandon went over this already.

Well that's because the first main test subject will be RS. Over time Genesis and the available guides will grow more neutral. It's also possible that as different games become more popular, it will grow to have different forum sections for various games. Basically, similar to what other forums do.

Sounds good. That's actually better than what I thought. Not sure if it's a good design though. If you design something or market it as non-specific, you don't want to design it to be very specific first and then integrate the other non-specific components.
Think of it this way: I need a class that provides some interface/protocol. All classes must implement this. I'd use an interface or abstract class right?
What RID is proposing is to make the derived classes first and THEN make the abstract class. It's backwards. In other words, he should have made everything abstract.. He should have made everything non game specific and THEN write code based on that underlying API specifically for RS or whatever other games he had in mind.
For example: Simba wasn't made SPECIFICALLY for RS. What the designers did was create it as an abstract program that works for any game (finds colours, processes images, et al).. THEN they created an include/API that is very specific to RS (aka the SRL include/Reflection include). They then made it extensible by adding a plugin interface to change the behaviour to be more client specific. This makes it flexible because we can adapt it to any game (it would take time though [to write an include for said game, of course]).
But then again, I prefer to wait and see what he comes up with. To be honest, I was actually hoping that he gets everything done and soon.
The only problems I have with his project is the design and the marketing/political speak. I love/hate the updates. I like the updates because he makes progress. I hate the updates because the progress delays + political speak annoys me.
But keep em coming (the updates; because I don't visit RID forum).

Alpha testing
Alpha testing is simulated or actual operational testing by potential users/customers or an independent test team at the developers' site. Alpha testing is often employed for off-the-shelf software as a form of internal acceptance testing, before the software goes to beta testing.[38]

Wow…if Genesis turns out to be just OpenGL/DX hooking, then he's been essentially lying to his customers about what this project is/will be, and the development time is therefore beyond ridiculous (for creating auto-calibrate hooking). I'll be very disappointed, I was looking forward to being very impressed with screen-scraping somehow achieving these massive claims by itself.
Hooking is fundamentally against what RiD is known for, and why people pay for it. They will just be another bot on the market with little difference from competitors (if anything, disadvantages). They do have biometrics, which have been extensively proven to be unnecessary for avoiding Botwatch. It would be pretty scam-y of him if the RiD community is not told of this development in great detail. It is laughable to charge money for something like that.
I hope this conclusion is wrong, and that he is still going with screen-scraping. That I would be very impressed with and interested in seeing.
If we can use hooking, that's a big motivator for me to get back into SRL Origins again :)

The definition and requirements for Alpha vs Beta testing is not concrete. While yes, alpha testing is
usually completed by developers, it is not
always that way. RiD has never released an Alpha test outside of the staff team before, and normally beta is what hits the users. In this case, RiD needs more people for Alpha testing than he has within the staff team, so, Lifetime VIP members will have initial Alpha privileges. Part of my degree requires a Testing and Quality Assurance class, which covers alpha and beta testing procedures. Nowhere in that class, or the textbook, does it specifically limit when or how an alpha/beta testing phase should be done. While there are definitely recommendations for this, they are not solid and may be altered as necessary.
Also, RiD will not be doing any OpenGL or DirectX interception of any kind. He will be sticking to what he's been doing, Computer Vision, which is just a more specific way of saying color and 3D object recognition. Now don't get all hung up on the phrasing, the phrase does not imply it has capabilities that other sites do not have, it's merely a professional term with a more specific definition.

For those of you who, like me, went "Computer Vision, LOL what a bs term" here is the wiki link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_visionEssentially it's a "scientific discipline" aimed towards making a computer "see" and recognize things the way that humans do. So if RID works, it will accomplish the "
disentangling of symbolic information from image data using models constructed with the aid of geometry, physics, statistics, and learning theory" according to Wiki. I think that would be some great political speak for RID to use in the next promotional post.
Either way, it still sounds like this would be color recognition with some pretty heavy model algorithms.

I would say pretty specifically that if RID has "Computer Vision" that works as well as it's described as working, then he should probably patent the technology, it could make him millions instead of selling a runescape bot.
E: Changed wording to clarify that all of this was supposed to be a sarcastic jab at how the whole thing is made-up technical mumbo-jumbo which is intended to impress you while not actually saying what is happening. Still cool if it scans the screen and everything just works.

That is to say: This specifically does imply that RID has capabilities that other sites do not. Nobody in the RS botting world has a bot that simply stares at the screen and knows exactly what is going on like a human would.

I don't give a shit about what USERS over at RiD says, they most likely do not know SHIT, just like you guys -> "speculating" and doing blind guesses.
Keep in mind that RiD aims for more than runescape 3, so OGL, D3D hooking is out of the question, unless he write methods to specialize on RS3… which would surprise me, as from all I can tell RiD enjoys working with Computer-Vision related tasks.
Find something better to do.
Nobody's talking shit. We're speculating, doing blind guesses. Just like you said.
You're the first one in a while to make things uncivil, coming in here out of the blue spouting curse words and telling us to find something better to do …
We're not doing anything wrong. No one has explcitly denounced RiD or his product. There has been no libel against him or his community.
What there has been, however, is uncertainty expressed over the validity (and
possibility) of the claims he makes. And that is a far cry from
talking shit.
I, along with most others in this thread, wish RiD the best of luck with his endavours. If, through Genesis, he creates a macroing program to end all macroing programs, more power to him!
But in the meantime, we are going to speculate. And we are going to discuss.

End of March Status update:
This is just going to be a brief progress report, alpha testing is just around the corner now and I'm sure we're all more keen to begin than read reports.
Currently I am doing a little experimentation, to figure out the best technique to use in an important area of bot calibration. Then after that, it should be a formality setting up and beginning alpha testing.
I will be posting a thread in the ViP section as soon as it's ready to go, which I would expect by around this time next week.
Thank you for your patience.

Now my question is, would it be possible to determine if Genesis uses computer vision or OGL/DX by analysis of the code within the Genesis.jar file? Now there's nothing to stop you from decompiling the code, but it is obfuscated in such a way that makes the code a bit difficult to understand. Given this, would it be enough to determine what it uses?
Here's just an example of what I mean by obfuscated, taken from an older .jar:

I would like to point out that RiD has stated many times in the past that he will never use reflection, hooking, or anything of that sort. He does not want to enter legal gray areas or risk detection, so he will be using computer vision, which, as 3Garrett3 pointed out, is not merely jargon but actually the correct terminology for what he is doing.

Well, even though RiD is stating he will be using computer vision, if you, or anyone else for that matter, is skeptical on this, all they have to do is decompile the class files from the Genesis.jar and take a look for themselves. *shrug*

It's a bot that existed in beta before Genesis development and hasn't been updated in 2 years, nor will it receive any updates, nor will it be released outside of VIP, as Genesis will be able to do everything it does and more. All it is, is a little toy for VIP members to play with while they wait for Genesis. Every beta bot has used that same generic GUI for the pause menu. Also, RiD has always insisted upon secrecy regarding alpha or beta bots, and any information we can give out is specifically okayed by RiD beforehand. I wish I could give more details, but I'm not allowed to.

The bot @Trent! is talking about is an autofighter-anyNPC combat bot from old RiD "archives." I guess you could claim it trains multiple 99s, but yeah…meh. Fighting a monster is the same thing as clicking on a fishing spot and waiting, but you can only claim that trains one 99 skill (fishing).
Luckily one can create such scripts in color or OGL here easily (most recent ogl aio fighter version sub 100 lines) without having to pay $251 USD!

ye i cant wait for genesis lol
From what I could see in the screenshots, genesis is an attempt to dumb down scripting with fancy interfaces - I would be extremely impressed if Genesis could somehow generate code without losing information in the conversion process, this is a problem google and wolfram have been battling with in command interpretation from users with google glass and the wolfram engine respectively. It's likely genesis will either require specific enough information that you may as well have written the script manually or not be able to produce scripts at the same quality as if you had created them manually.

Haven't really checked it out yet, but this is the major point, all scripters should at least learn the basics so they can fine-tune scripts for they're use, personally I believe if all scripts ran the same timers it makes it all the move obvious because it sets patters the mods can detect. I'm not the best coder but I appreciate all I've learned through it and can at least apply that knowledge other places.
This seems to promote leeching to me =/

That's the appeal of RiD, they target the people who don't want to/are incapable of learning how to script/code. Their main audience is people who just want to bot some levels on their main without any hassle/effort on their part (technically what is leeching here) and they won't mind paying for it. It's definitely different from simba where it is more about learning and less about leeching but is also free.

RiD to villavu is like apple to android.
marketing vs quality basically
This sums up my understanding of the two. Also Brandon's post kind of explained to me what they're really trying to do because I mean i've been botting for years but I never actually used RiD. I always thought it was a complete waste of money compared to all the other stuff I can get for relatively cheap. Villavu has gotten me quite a few 99's so far (working on getting 99 smith using corrupted ore miner to get corruped ores, killing 2 birds with one stone XD) so I see no reason to even concern myself with RiD considering how much of a money sink it is.

End of April Diary Update:
From: RiD
End of April diary update:
This month we began alpha testing Genesis features, in different locations in osrs and rs3. I would just like to thank everyone who has helped gather data.
This has allowed me to turn my attention to the environment GUI, a part of the interface I wasn't totally happy with. The past two weeks I have designed and created a much nicer GUI, which is both easier to understand, and reduces the number of clicks required, to setup and update environments.
It's not finished yet but here's a glimpse of the environment GUI. At some point I will post a thread to go into more detail on the environment setup process - but you will be able to simply download and share these settings, it will be possible to use Genesis without ever having to use the environment GUIs.

I think it will take another week to polish off, then I'll be back to finish the first stage and move to the next stage of alpha testing.
Just to let people know, during alpha testing we will be isolating various features and testing them individually to get everything working right. We won't be botting until the beta stage.
The next stage of alpha testing should begin around the middle of May, then there will be another two stages after that before we move on to beta testing.
I'll give another update in this thread at the end of May to keep you posted.

It appears his post went right over your head. The point is not the color of the GUI, it's how he's working on designing it in a way that is more user-friendly (the previous revision was not so).
What he's showing is the GUI for the Environment configuration menu, which is going to be in the next phase of Alpha testing.
So now i'm really confused.. Now I haven't followed this much as I assumed it wouldn't be completed, but it seems pretty well on its way. But isn't the purpose of this to "watch" you play or do a activity and it can then configure it from there? Looking at the gui you have to add variables and components.. So basically it is just a dumbed down coding IDE? Using pictures and a pretty interface but it still needs logic to run. Since it "roughly" uses color albeit seemly something more advanced, what is the purpose of genisus. Since the logic is typically the most difficult part, it doesn't seem to solve anything.. Also, please don't take this as a rant, but I'm genuinely curious.

As the quote I posted said, this environment configuration isn't required to make a bot. These environments can be shared without needing to modify them. The environment configuration would be used when botting outside of the normal browser or official RS client. For example, if you were using OSBuddy you would create a new environment. In the future, the Environment configuration will be used for creating environments for different games besides RS.

Alpha consists of 3 phases of functionality. All of the code for each phase of functionality is written, the VIPs are just testing each one to make sure it works as expected. The Environment code is written, the only thing RiD's doing with it right now is making the GUI user-friendly. It works, he just wants the design to be easier to use. Once each phase of functionality is passed off, VIPs will be cleared to start making and running bots in Beta. Also keep in mind that RiD has a full-time job and he is working on Genesis in his spare time.
Imagine something like this: A plane has been built from start to finish. Now, do you just hop in the plane and go? No, you run through a series of functionality test phases to make sure that every major piece of functionality is up to expectations. His current tweaking of the Environment GUI may be likened to designing a cockpit control center in such a way that the pilot can understand everything he's looking at. The beta may be likened to taking the plane for its first test flight after finishing all inspections of major pieces of functionality. You wouldn't fly a new plane for its first time unless you knew everything functioned safely and properly first, right?

No, because unlike a faulty plane which would be a multimillion dollar loss, not to mention all the lost of human life, a program can be tested before everything is fixed.

I was more so thinking that he spent an entire month on GUI design.

So.. if we decode this sentence, what you meant to say was, "you can share a script"?

Yeah so people will actually end up having to script it looks like, except with GUI instead of typing it out. Sort of against the product market slogan of no scripting knowledge required.
The argument that they can be shared doesn't change that someone at some point will have to make these scripts. Imo the GUI is more complex and annoying than just typing it out yourself…

While yes, scripts will be easily shareable, the Environment configuration has nothing to do with script creation itself. In fact, you can create a script without ever needing to use the Environment configuration menu. The menu is more for fine tuning or creating new environments or modifying existing environments. Most of the work is done for you, any tweaks are easy to do. Script creation is done with Calibration Sessions. Environment configuration has to do with what environment you're botting in. For example: botting via browser/official RS client is one environment. Botting via the OSBuddy client is another environment. Using Swiftkit is another environment. Using OSBuddy's scalable fullscreen mode is another environment. These environments are shareable.

Your understanding of what this is, is not correct. That's not what the Environment configuration menu is at all.

You missed the point. The point was not the severity of the risk, like you're trying to point out, the point is what is most important to the Product Owner (Google the project management definition of this). In both cases, safety is most important to the Product Owner. For an airplane safety is most important. For RiD, the safety of his products is most important to him. So, given this, it would make sense for him to ensure that critical areas of functionality are working correctly to ensure testers are safe from bans that would otherwise be caused by bugs in these areas of functionality.

Except that the other environments load the client themselves and if you guys aren't doing that, there's only ONE environment for RS.. The official client unless using Firefox. In that case, 2 environments. Even if someone shares their "environment" with you, it doesn't mean it'll work for you.
What you call "environment" is what we call "settings".

There's definitely more than two in this case, maybe not for you guys, but for this, yes there are more than that. To prove this point, during Alpha testing the only environments currently available are for the browser or the official RS client program. New environments will be in the next phase. Running alpha testing on these two environment is producing perfect results thus far, but using other environments (for example, using OSBuddy), have yielded slightly less than satisfactory results, and would require a new environment to be created. In addition, let's assume that while using OSBuddy I want the bot to utilize features of OSBuddy itself outside of the RS window, I can customize my environment to support this. While it may be true that sharing an environment does not guarantee it to work right away, the Environment configuration menu allows users to make any adjustments necessary to make it work as intended.
Also, the environment configuration is to be designed in a way that supports other games besides RuneScape down the line.

After this post, I guess I'm going to refrain from opinions and commentary now until the absolute, final end product is released, whenever that may happen.
Currently, from what has been presented, Genesis appears unimpressive, simplistic, and quite frankly, a robbery of RiD's clients' money…which I don't want to believe. I believe RiD is better than that, I was a customer there before I discovered SRL. Alpha testing or not, it's difficult to see any indication of in-depth "Genesis like" material as it was marketed to the clientele.
I look forward to the final release, after which I would love to take a look and try things out. With these limited, barebones VIP-only screenshots and vague explanations it's difficult to make any sort of informed opinion.
I will say that the initial alpha regarding map walking was laughable, and is something we do here at SRL every day in 4-5 lines of code. I sincerely hope it's more advanced than that.
Maybe I'm being egotistical…I just want to believe RiD will deliver, but it's so incredibly difficult right now…
As always, nothing but respect and admiration if the initially marketed and advertised product is released in full.
Sidenote: wasn't Genesis supposed to be non-RS specific?

Sidenote: wasn't Genesis supposed to be non-RS specific?
Not initially. The intent was to build a system that could, over time, be generic enough to support multiple games. For the initial release, however, the intent was to ensure it works as expected on a trial environment, in this case being RuneScape. Once it is ironed out to work effectively for RS, it would be scaled out to work on other games.

He'd better start his advertising campaigns and partnerships now.
Or he's going to end up with a superadvanced, enterprise-grade product and a small, mostly teenage client base.
Good luck making a living selling such a product to people whose main medium of monetary transaction are parents' credit cards & leftover pizza funds.

RSBuddy operated during an era when RuneScape (and thus, cheating) was at its height. You can't compare then to now.
The RS community as a whole has shrunk. Jagex as a business isn't doing as well as they were five years ago.
Thusly, cheating has declined as Jagex turns their focus to killing bots, implementing MTX, and launching pathetic "player-powered" campaigns to breathe life back into their game.
I think talking about the "
people who will flock over" upon release of your product is a
very bold statement to make. Not just for RiD, but for any member of the RS underground scene in 2015.
What people? There's not even enough people "flocking" to the game itself, much less to a specific cheating site.

You're taking my words too literally brah. I was not being serious with the bit about RSBuddy, hence why I said, "All jokes aside." I think you also over analysed when I said flock. I was simply implying that the community would grow compared to what it is now. Now, one bit you're missing is that RiD is aware that RS is dying. That's why he's been building Genesis with the intention of branching out to other games over time. Hence, the death of RS is not really a wall, more like a hurdle.

The second phase of testing has begun. I can't say exactly what is being tested, but we should have some functional bot creation later in this phase or next phase. Thus far we've just been making sure key features function accurately before throwing everything together.

Your second sentence is incorrect. Out of the people having issues, of which are not "most" of the testers, it is user error that is giving them problems. Next chance I get I'll run testing in the same areas where the people having issues were. If it works for me then it proves the issues are user-sided.

Clearly Genesis not working on my desktop, only on my VM is user-error. Just because it works on your end, doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with it. That's just plain ignorance.
A lot of people are having issues, don't try to hide it behind "They're just being stupid and don't understand how to setup RiD" I stopped testing it because it has too many issues. Was going to wait until Phase 3 comes around with hopefully most of the bugs fixed.
Phase 2 Genesis is working for some, and not working for others. The issues mainly come from Genesis detecting RS3, but other than that I've heard Genesis is working pretty well at detecting world items, environments, and actions. Some areas Genesis plays up, and i'm sure RiD is taking note of those Areas.
I'll go back to hiding behind my wall and ignoring this thread, I just couldn't stand Trent's ignorance.

No need to be so aggressive. Most of my testing has been with OSRS, so let me change my original statement: Genesis phase 2 is working well with OSRS; however most of the problems that are occurring are happening on RS3.

While there are a few types of tasks that will be receiving stability updates soon, there’s been a fair number of users reaching veteran or hero rank, which require 1k and 3k hours botted respectively, and I recently spoke to a user who finished maxing his account in OSRS with Genesis after ~10 99s and often pushing 18 hour days.
So, while yes, there are some types of tasks that could use some stability improvements, the large percentage of users who come asking for help in the Discord server are having issues because they aren’t setting things up correctly. For those running into legitimate problems, they are strongly encouraged to submit bug reports.

Your input is eagerly awaited
Once there were two forums strong and bold,
Villavu and RiD, stories untold,
Where members would gather and share their voice,
But now, both forums seem to have no choice.
Once lively and bustling with daily posts,
Now quiet and still like a ghost,
Villavu's threads seem to gather dust,
And RiD's chats are musty and unjust.
Is one more dead than the other you ask?
It's hard to say, it's a difficult task,
For both forums seem to be inactive,
Their spark and life, now just a relic.
But perhaps one day they'll come alive,
With new members who are eager to strive,
And the forums will flourish once more,
Their stories and posts, to be told and adored.
