I have to admit I'm not too aware of the current rules. But back in my days auto-updating scripts wasn't really a thing.
Version check:

http://solipsist.tk/scripts/vial-filler/vf_release.txtIf unaware users would just run the .simba script he could inject any code malicious code he wanted. Luckily we are at Villavu where such things rarely happen. So the trade-off is probably worth it for users.
Well documented code, credits given to other users, and a newcomer. So yes, promising newcomer would suit him well.

I personally prefer auto-updating scripts. And as you said, we rarely have such situations here that could be of harm to users.

I too think auto-updaters should be praised instead of feared. security.sex or another security extension should help the users, but if they want to be 100% sure they'll just have to look through the code.

+1 to newcomer
I can't remember the last time someone got hacked from a script.

I agree to give it to him.
Great idea!
*Updates all scripts to send me their login info* :)
But auto-updating is way easier for everyone imo. Although yes it also makes it easier to sneak in malicious code, it's been year(s?) since something like that has happened.
