Lots of noobs getting cups (Example, helper cup)

First of all, please don't flame me on this.. Just discussing. And I mean this in 100% NO DISRESPECT to the admins or whoever gave them these cups. And I mean no disrespect to the people's names I point out. Just discussing because I've been noticing this.

And also, when I said noobs in the topic title, I mean people that haven't done much of what there cup represents.

The helpers cup. Well, I went to the staff page, and here are some names that surprised me to be in the SR Helper section..

  • bobarkinator
  • Fourscape (I know he's had it for a long time.. Still surprised me)
  • iloveit8
  • neG
  • r0b0t1
  • Rune Hacker
  • ~alex~

I mean, I know some of these people have helped more then others, but still, I have barely seen some help at all!

Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of this, but please don't flame/hate me :p I'm just a bit confused as to why these people got the helpers cup, and somebody like Smartzkidz didn't. I mean, he has a high post count (Not that's 100% about what a helpers cup is; But hey, to help people you need to post right?) And he is very helpful to a lot of people.

There are a lot of people probably more deserving then some of the people I pointed out at least.

Once again, not trying to take over the admins job and point this out, because of course this is 100% there desicion and I respect there decision and I'm not trying to change it.. I just didn't see how these people were very helpful.

Anyways, please discuss!

Im sure those people were very helpfull a number of times, which is why they deserved the cup, but i do agree that Smartzkid earns a helper cup …

Maybe they helped long time ago, on old posts which most of users don't read ;-)

Yeah.. I guess :p

I just thought the helpers cup was given when you are dedicated to helping people fix errors, helping new people improve there scripts and fix there scripts, helping them 1 on 1 on msn….etc.

I mean, with 200 posts I can't see how you could have helped very many people.. Although it is possible :p

Because if you think about it, Foursacape has like, what, 250 posts or something right? Most those posts are probably on his power chopper/oak banker…etc. leaving maybe only have helped 10 people :p

And yes, smartzkidz has helped a LOT of people like I have, which is why I think he deserves a cup a LOT more then all of those people I listed, which have barely helped any people at all.

But as you said, they probably helped people in old posts ;)

*hurredly goes back and re-reads the top post*

:p skipped over that paragraph

I think Boreas could tell us more of how the whole cup system works…

Maybe they just give it to the person, but maybe it works somewhat like a rep system?

Yes, but I personally think you shouldn't name any people, you could just recommend Smartzkidz to get the cup, instead of trying to make others look bad :-).

You could just say certain people has those cups, and the one who really deserves it in my opinion is that and that guy because of that and that and give full argument list, something strong that would leave admins no choice but to feel bad and ''fix'' the mistake.

Not trying to be mean, just helpful.

It pretty much is a rep system. If you have the scripters cup, that means your a good scripter (Which wouldn't you trust a scripter more then some noob?) A helpers cup means you've helped newer, maybe even intermediate people with scripting, a tester cup means you've tested scripts and posted feed back, a tutorial writer cup means you've written a lot of tutorials, or at least a couple good ones (even 1 good one could do it).

But yes, I Definately think you and me have helped more people then all of the people those people helped added together.. :p

Edit: c0de. Yeah.. I probably should have left out the names, and I even said I didn't mean this in any disrespect to them, because they are all good people of this community (From what I know..). But the point of this topic was just to say that there are some people that have helped a LOT of people, some people that have helped a few, and the people who helped a few got the cup over people who have helped a LOT of people.

Some people have written a tutorial or 2 that aren't very good.. And still got the cup. I guess its pretty much whatever tutorial, or whoever is helping people that catches the Admins eye, because there's no way they can look at every tutorial, check if its good, give them a cup of they wrote some good ones. And they can't read through all the scripting help things checking who helped so and so many people….etc.

But that doesn't make other people bad and noobs, remember they did (try to) help other people which makes them good ;-)

One of our most active forum is the SRL Help forum. Lots of easy-to-answer questions from lost newbies. However the amount of Members that actually help is imho totally unaceptable. I really dont understand why only so few of you help others.

I browsed through 100 "Help me please…" threads, and rewarded anyone that contributed something meaningful.

Please, help others in their struggle for intelligence…

EDIT: All Cups are assigned manually by admins.

EDIT2: Smartzkid. I knew I missed a few. Corrected.

I know, I find it very strange how few people help too.. I would think all the active people of this forum would help a lot of people.

But I do think that's good that some of them may have helped a few people; The thing is though is that a lot of people go unnoticed that help a lot of people, then the people who help a few people get noticed ;)

I think that the admins should pick out some people (Maybe SSRL senior members group, or devs….etc.) to post in a section that a person has been helping a lot of people, or a person have wrote a lot of good tutorials, or a person has tested a lot of scripts, or a person has been a good scripter…etc. So that the right people get the cups, and it saves the admins time looking when they can just go check out the threads in the forum the people made and we'd have links for them.

That may have sounded a bit confusing.. But I think that'd save the admins some time because they have to be sooo busy :p

JAD, I think those un-noticed people will get there cup one day and I don't think we should take over the administators' job by recommending people.

Boreas

I'll make a forum for it. Like new ssrl, make a poll and vote with evidence. Admin has final say of course, but most of the time it will go with the vote.

Cool :)

@Nielsie. I just thought it'd be cool because then the admins would have a LOT less looking around to do, and then they can just look there and see if they agree with anything somebody has, or look at there examples of being a good scripter for scripting cup….etc.

Wizzup?

This again takes the whole point out of admin assigned rewards, those rewards should be given by admin to people who got into their eyes, this way everyone with 5+ friends in ssrl can get cup…

You can vote. Any SSRL and above can vote.

And any of those votes can be disregarded. ;)
