So for those of you who don't know me, I have been nearly completely inactive for 3 years now. When I left SRL, RS was just introducing this weird new combat system that pretty much everyone hated. Lots of stuff was broken or partially broken, etc. Now I'm slowly mingling around and most of the things I hear don't make sense to me. I was PMing someone (I don't know how tagging people works on the forum, that's new too) about changes and learned so many confusing things.

OSRS is pre-combat system RS? They made yews p2p? People actually succeed in goldfarming without using injection bots? There's no randoms in RS3 anymore? I guess that makes sense why so many people run scripts 24/7. I hardly even know how to use the action bar thing, I still haven't figured out how to unpin things from it, I've only had the account for less than a week and that thing is a mess.

SRL-6 is completely new and the scripting style has changed significantly, with whatever this Lape thing is. There's only like 3 scripting tutorials in the entire help section now? There used to be like 50 describing every detail of things.

I'm enjoying the cool things I've learned so far, what other mind blowing additions and subtractions have been made in 3 years? (Both SRL and RS).

SRL6 is great once you get used to it.
They made yew trees in OSR P2P before they released F2P* OSR. *it's a 2 week trial
Randoms have been removed in RS3
Randoms will be removed in OSR pending the outcome of a poll
RS3 doesn't look like a mess if you set up the interfaces according to the SRL6 guidelines (the setting up srl thread says how I think)
The scripting tutorials from RS2 have been moved to the OSR tutorial section but many of them are still useful for RS3. Just keep in mind they are outdated, so SRL functions may be different.

As far as RS updates that are noteworthy:
They added bank presets so you can click 1 button to withdraw a premade preset of items into your inventory and equipment (and also deposits everything you were wearing/holding that isn't in the preset)
Burthorpe and Taverly have been redesigned and made F2P
They added runespan, a fast way to get RC xp without crafting runes. (can't remember when that was added, maybe before you left)
They added a new P2P collection skill called Divination

SRL updates that are noteworthy:
SRL6 (uses OpenGL or DirectX graphic modes)
Brandon made an OpenGL include/plugin that allows you to see model and texture IDs and use them for object finding instead of colour, but because of Jagex's memory leaks and people already using colour it's not very widely used. (Although someone is using to make a dungeoneering script so that might change things)

SRL-OSR is the colour include for OSR
Flight made an alternative colour include for OSR called AeroLib
There is also a reflection include for OSR

I think that covers everything.

Expanding on that:

SRL-6 is written in lape, and is pretty much pseudo OOP

@BMWxi; randoms on osr will be removed at the end of this month. Just heard it on stream

So many new and exciting things! Thanks for the explanation. PS I'm originally from NS, nice to see another Maritimer around!

This is the confusing one for me, lape makes it look different than the PS that I was used to. I'll just keep browsing through scripts to see what's going on.

Nice signature and welcome back. I'm on the same boat, everything in RS looks like an alien planet to me, but hang in there it gets easier.

Remember we used to create types like this:

type
TMonster = record
colour: Integer;
name: String;
end;

..

var
LesserDemon: TMonster;
Imp: TMonster;
...

LesserDemon.colour = 21447124;
LesserDemon.name = 'esser demon';

Imp.colour = 2342389;
Imp.name = 'mp';

Lape now also gives use the ability to add functions to a record:

function TMonster.Attack(): Boolean;
begin
if(FindColor(x,y, Self.colour)) then
begin
Mouse(x,y);
Result := True;
end else
Result := False;
end;

..

if(Imp.Attack()) then
begin
writeln('we killed an Imp!');
end;

Whoa, I hadn't seen this in the few scripts I've looked at in detail. This kinda blew my mind. I'm in the process of writing a simple script just to shake off the rust, and I can see how I'd use this in a few different spots for practice. I have a bigger idea that I just thought of where this might help me make it more efficient when I actually get into it. Thanks for the tip!

Yes but I hadn't really bothered to look through the include in detail, mostly just to find out what functions are called now. I hadn't realized that everything was types and that's why it's all funky looking, I'd just thought that someone decided it should look like that or it was some weird Lape thing and went on my way. It's much cooler knowing why though
