New (to me) Phishing Scam

Just received this in my email today. I haven't seen this one before, and this is one of the better ones I've seen. For a split second my heart jumped because I was training some dungeon leeches today with my main. The leeches were botting, and I thought maybe they connected my main, which would be bad. But alas, a quick hover over the link and it proved to be a phishing scam.

So just a word of caution to you guys out there, always keep your eyes open, and NEVER click anything in an email from "Jagex", always go to your account directly through the website. If it's legit, it will show there as well.

Bot Safe, Bot SMART, and Bot Often!

They should have just stuck with the "we will never email you. any and all communication will be done through your message center." The very first legit email I ever received from Jagex was Oct 25th, 2011…bot nuke day, letting me know that they knew that I was a customer of iBot/Nexus, and this was my "free second chance".

Lol how could you tell that was real

And the in-game indexbox is such a pain in the ass to navigate to and only holds 3 messages (yes.. can only had 3 messages and its 2014) how it should work:

Why are their emails even so shitty? They are a big company and clearly have the funds to hire a person who can make some professional looking email templates. Its pathetic that in this day and age they cant do something as simple as email properly. Lol. If they put some hard work into the email system they could greatly cut down on the phishing crap.

It was real, there was a big to-do about it because it was the first time Jagex had ever sent an email directly to people instead of using the message center.

And yeah, it would be absolutely brilliant if Jagex could come up with some kind of mail system. Either in-game or otherwise. Right now the only way you have to communicate with other players is both of you have to be online at the same time, which retarded-ly stupid.

For Nexus?

When they won the lawsuit, all customer info had to be turned over.
If you mean in general, didn't you sign up for it?

I mean phishing emails. On emails I only use for runescape I get them, I've always wondered if someone inside Jagex was leaking them or something.

I don't see a real incentive for someone inside Jagex to leak them. I'm sure it probably isn't too difficult to go on facebook, check whether you like RS, and then send you an email about it.

When forums get cracked the attacker has all the emails that were registered. They probably sell them to phishers or do it themselves. I remember after someone got control of villavu's I got an email about an "infraction" my rs account received.

I know, but I also get phishing emails on accounts I've only ever used on runescape and no where else.

I've had phishing emails about my account that even had my username in it. I went to the site, but it was slightly outdated and thats how I knew it was a phish. They said I had been banned on macro major so I checked my rs inbox and it was clean, so was the ban meter. Don't even trust emails with your account name. I'm pretty sure it even had my loyalty points count. I'm more than sure there was a RAT on my PC and that was about 3 days before I got a new computer so it was all good.
