reason being I'd like to learn lape so that I can write scripts using AeroLib.

Lape and pascal-script is pretty similar, both are subsets of the Pascal language. Lape has a larger syntax/more features. Most stuff that runs in PS also runs in Lape, there are some simple incompatibilities, but not something you should worry about yet.
