I just saw something I wrote 8 years ago. 9 year old me wrote this and I remember writing it like yesterday. Saw the date on that shit and almost cried. Where has the past 8 years gone? ffs In 8 more years I could look back at this post and realize another 8 have gone by. I don't wanna be old, I want to be a kid again. I remember everything about my childhood, those were the days. Now I'm about to start going to college and enter the real world. How did this even happen? Feels like a few days ago I was getting tucked into bed and pooping my pants in preschool and playing outside with all the kids in my neighborhood. I don't want to be old or even think about being old. I'll be like 80-90 and die a shitty death. Or, I could die tomorrow in a car crash on my way to high school. nothing can beat the past. I'm just going to accept that and move on. No point in dwelling on the past when atleast I can make the next 4 years of my life at college as fun as possible and make as many good memories as possible. Then I feel like after that begins a 40 year long journey of being a slave to "the system" until I can finally retire and be a broken old sack of shit with nothing to do with my life besides go on vacations with my old wrinkly dried up hag of a wife (if i can even manage to get a wife) and die.

Well that was a bit rough to read. Life is what it is.

This reminds me of an Simpsons episode, here:
http://www.wtso.cc/video/vip/1506/eng/season_23/season_23_episode_19_a_totally_fun_thing_that_bart_will_never_do_againIt has a good moral actually, if you watch it all the way through. Also, you can cut out the constant cussing, it's really not impressive, in fact it's just the opposite.

If you go into life with this attitude it'll probably play out as you predict.
But if you don't, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
You are the only one that can make a change to this plot :norris:

No one forces you to be part of that system. You do it yourself.

Don't worry mate, we all thought about this at least once in our life. I learned to accept the reality and be faithful to God and be positive about the future. I like to make plans and imagine me achieving them. I tell you every year you live, you will have a hell of a time and look back with no regrets. So live life to the fullest, and never think of yourself being old… You are just maturing and becoming a better person. Hope this helps you and hope you are excited for the many years to come Mate!

Why work for the system then? You can do your own thing. You can retire early. You can never retire at all. You could start your own company and earn millions. Make the future whatever you want. You can travel the world pretty easily, just do it. People have done the craziest shit ever in the most unbelievable ways all because they were convinced and dedicated. So do that shit.
Edit: Look at what Arnold Schwarzenegger did with his life on purpose. I mean, seriously. Bat-shit crazy and it all worked.
Why isn't this posted in NOTA?
Like Pinky said, all these deep thoughts about life and what it entails are thoughts the majority of people will have sooner or later, and I'm no different. Story time…
A few years ago I was at what was no doubt the lowest point of my life thus far, and what I sincerely hope to be the lowest point of my life in its entirety. I was seriously depressed, right on the edge, and I can remember a few nights when I actually cried myself to sleep. Why? Because I was over thinking life, my future and fact that I'm gay. It might not be something you can entirely relate to, but, on the whole, the concept is the same. Like you, I was worrying about all sorts of things…How will I tell my friends? What will they say? After that hurdle, what about my parents? I realised life was never going to be as easy as it was 10 years earlier when my biggest worry was where to go for hide and seek.
As you can tell from me posting, I backed away from that metaphorical edge and got on with life. Again, why? Because I realised that I have so much to look forward to in life. Like Pinky, I set myself goals in life to reach, and no matter how horrible my life at the time or future seemed, or what other matters worried me I just got on with it because I had something to look forward to. Of course, like everyone else, I still have the days where I really can't be bothered to deal with anything or anyone, but I remember what awaits me in the future. It might be quite a way away, but I'll get there eventually.
Now, like you @Nebula, I'm not expecting the next however many years while I work towards my goals to be full of fun and joy; I've still got hurdles to jump, as have you, as has everyone else our age. However, there's no doubt in my mind that I'll have so many memorable, fantastic moments in that time and I couldn't bear to miss them. Let's say we're roughly 20% through our lives, I can guarantee the remaining 80% won't be tiresome blurs. There are some seriously awesome moments waiting for you that you can't even imagine.
The whole gay business might seem totally irrelevant to this thread and yourself, but it's why I got into the situation where I really looked at my life and what I wanted to get out of it. I was able to realise that, although it might to not seem like it at the same, there is so much more waiting for me, and so much to discover and experience, and hopefully you can do the same. So yeah, I've rambled on a bit…

I had a small bout of depression about 2 years ago. What I realized, almost identical to Rich's post (except for the gay thing), is you need to stop giving a shit about absolutely everything. If you try that you probably won't go as far as I did, because I was going to school without showering or changing clothes for sometimes a whole week. I would show up late for work. Worst of all, I developed a sort of dependence on marijuana to keep me feeling at an absolute calm. "Synthetic happiness" I called it.
I'm not saying you should just give up on everything, but maybe you should try taking things as they come rather than stressing over when they are going to arrive.

Totally misread that last line and had to reread, thought you was saying he should start taking drugs and I was like…that's not good advice! But it is, so it's all good haha

I too, am dealing with negative thoughts and what can be labeled as depression.
The self-pityness will go away. You will understand that there is, in fact, no real reason to worry about X or Y, but it might take a while to fully analyze whatever it is that is bugging you.
Today I am grateful that I got depression; it let me fully analyze my life and put it in perspective; I finally got answers for questions like "What am I going to do with my life?", "Where will I end up?" etc etc.
I suggest reading books about willpower (i.e McGonigal's book "The Willpower Instinct") or other books about mental training: It really has helped me understand myself and the world around me better.
Whatever happens to you is not final; you choose where you want to end up once you've started a path (ask yourself where you are in life and where you want to end up, then search for a path)

I can relate bro. I feel like a wasted a couple years out of highschool, feels lame to have wasted those years. Making up for it now though! Don't worry Nebula, college will (probably) be awesome!
One thing I'll notice, when I set good habits and follow through with them (bed at a reasonable time, read, do homework regularly) that aren't that "fun", it gives you more fulfillment in life. Anyways my 2 cents. Good luck and god bless at college!
