Running a script with Monitor off and screen locked.

Hi

So I'm new round here and want to make sure I become an active and participating member, however because I'm new there's a few things i don't fully understand yet. I have searched the FAQ section and haven't found an answer to this.

SO here goes: 1) if a begin running a script and turn my monitor off will it continue?
2) if a begin running a script, turn my monitor off and lock the screen will it continue?

I'm no programmer or coder so unsure if the colour recognition system requires the monitor on to…recognise the colours?

Apologies if these questions have been asked/answered before, I'm new and don't want to start out on the wrong foot :-)

Thanks for all the help!

Hello TheMilkTree, if you turn off your monitor or lock your screen the script will continue to run ONLY if you are running SMART client (majority of scripts have SMART already inputted).

Hope that helps!

Post away if any more questions Mate.

Thanks a lot P1nky! The help is greatly appreciated!

I guess just a few more questions…

I've been looking to create my own script, however I have zero programming experience and after looking through The Mayor's guide on how to create your own SRL script, I realised I'm not at that level of programming knowledge.

I was just wondering what recommendations you might have for first time programmers wishing to start their own script?

Also how long would it take to complete and finalise a relatively simple script, for example a "collection & banking" script or a simple "item manipulation at a bank" script?
Ultimately I'd like to create a Charm sprite script, however at the moment that's a long way off.

Again, thanks for the help! :-)

It doesn't require the monitor to be on, as Simba reads the screen from the gpu buffer and this will also be updated when the monitor´s off.

What exactly do you mean with "Lock the screen"?

By lock the screen I meant "lock the computer" so when I return it'll prompt me to login.

When I leave I CTRL+ALT+DELETE then "lock computer".

Apologies for the confusion :-)

Ah yes, that will only work when you´re running a SMART client.

I came here initially with almost 0 programming experience (The tiniest bit of VB and HTML from computer class in high-school. So nothing pascal/lape/simba related…) and learned it really quickly by starting off with simple "item manipulation at a bank" scripts like fletching and herblore.

I then branched out and tried item finding and walking and it all came alot quicker once I'd got the basics down. Just read through all the beginning tutorials and try a couple of basic practice scripts then work your way up.

In response to how long it would take. How long is a piece of string? Really experienced programmers or people who know the include inside and out would take no time at all. I'm just getting used to the SRL-6 include and I'm about halfway through a flax spinning script in just an afternoon.
