What's the deal, is Jagex supporting a virus download? What kind of malware? Or is this an unintentional side-effect of navigating to shady surveys?

The ads themselves are mostly harmless, but some of them ask the user to download software to their machine to complete the "offer" to earn "RuneCoins".

Jagex has partnered with SuperSonicAds, and SuperSonicAds is who is linking to the malware in the end, so Jagex seems to not be taking any responsibility.

The announcement thread was full of complaints and warnings, but they seem to have started heavily moderating it and deleting all reports of malware on the official forum here.

Okay interesting, thanks for elaborating.
I wonder how this will turn out. Funny that their response is to censor, but perhaps that's a temporary measure while they prepare an actual response.

Its filled with spyware ads. Don't bother clicking any of those offers.

If you already have, there is a chance that a program was installed and running in your background with you not knowing anything about it.

Here's some links to some cleaners.

Kind of ridiculous that a large company like Jagex hasn't fully checked out what they are exposing their customers to. Very poor service IMO

they just wanted to capitalize since few buy runecoins even though solomon gets new stuff every update, so to kill 2 birds with 1 rock they let players win a few runecoins while they get paid by supersonic ads per player.

But theres alot of malaware in those ads, they must check every ad before getting them to the players

You would be surprised by the number of people who buy Runecoins.
