so i was just standing at varrock west bank when this chat box pops up. the weird thing is, i never was at the random event or got teleported to it..

when i clicked on: click here to continue, nothing happened. thoughts?

btw: yesterday i stayed 20 minutes at the freaky forester random to test @Krazy_Meerkat; his solver..

Was the NPC there? Seems like a bug, but could be Jagex trying to be tricky.

I feel like OSR devs are more willing and likely to pull tricky stunts like this than RS3, their whole approach to OSR is much more player-minded and practical since they have less obligations for professionalism etc with the main product. Like OSR JMods chill ingame testing things with other players, there's a lot of joke content and so I wouldn't be surprised if this was an intentional bot trap.

Nevertheless hopefully an OSR script isn't constantly checking for this dialogue, and instead using a more reliable method to tell whether a random event is occurring.

Perhaps they manually target players to 'test'? I.e. looking at the Rogie thread it looks like they know you're an SRL name, so maybe mods put in requests for tests, or tests occur after a certain amount of reports.

My 2 cents, I don't play OSR at all so this might be all wrong.

Could be a trap like clarity suggested, but I've seen similar things like this from the SMART client.. An image might've been cached a while ago for the interface (when you were in the random and you enabled SMART) and a rendering issue might cause this to show the next time you enabled SMART.. That is just a guess so don't take my word on it..

The image is too small for me to read but I'm assuming it's just a dialogue in the chatbox from one of the randoms, is this right?

ya, its the begining of the chat box text when you get the freaky forrester random. its asking him to find a pheasent to kill.

i browsed the osr forums a bit and it appears theyve started implementing the new anti bot stuff. its only in parts that they are using it so they can get a data base for testing it out. woodcutters appear to be affected the most so far

perhaps this is the new osrs antibot measures they detailed on the forums?
seems like that to me.

Probably would be wise to either edit scripts to account for this asap or just stop botting while they "collect data." Wouldn't want to be flagged by this new system when it could've been avoided easily.
