Hey everyone,

Earlier today, I thought to myself as I was browsing the forums, what if we had a Paid Users Section, or a Donors Section, or something along the line.

I know that currently, when we donate to the site, we get a badge, but what if we upped the value a little bit? Maybe more people would be interested? We might even get more people to the site if it has a very unique feature.

Its just a thought and I am not sure what you guys think. That is why I want to know.

I know it is broad, but it allows you to think of things we could do.

and by unique you mean a section you need to pay to visit? what would be in this section? bugs? glitches? scripts? Might as well add a paid version of Simba and SRL while we are at it and limit everyone without a paid account to only be able to run simba for 2 hours at a time.

I think he just meant like a lounge possibly? Like a spot to talk ect, kinda like members for donors? I don't think it would be bad.

There would need to be incentive for members to pay to enter that section. I'd personally rather encourage learning and activity on the forum to unlock higher sections of the forum, as opposed to paying your way to get there. But if such a thing were introduced I'd be happy to spend some extra time on premium scripts.

Is the site in need of more money to pay for itself? Or do you mean scripters are paid for making premium scripts?
I think it would attract more people, but not necessarily the kind of people we'd want to attract.

Premium script section :D

I have to agree with Turps, Flight, Clarity and Sjoe.
It would attract people with a big wallet, no skills/respect and would give them special access.

Premium script section sounds a bit more acceptable.. Let the flocks of leechers come, keep them in the "premium" section and make them pay the community back for once :stirthepot:

Edit: Maybe a more suited idea for villa would be some kinda pay-for tutoring system..

Additionally it might act as an incentive to scripters to create some pretty advanced material (Dungeoneering, Slayer, etc.)

I would hope though that we wouldn't turn into an elitist/money/business-based environment like powerbot.

Yeah, as someone who has made premium scripts at sythe, Villavu is not suited for premium script. People will write shoddy scripts so that they can earn a bit of money…. It will turn into a money hungry environment.
And as for the orginal idea. I deem it worthless. Powerbot removed it from their site as it was a dead section of the forums. It doesn't seem right that I should have to donate in order to see some of the forum. And its not like we really struggle for money?

Where are we going next?

I think that it would attract the wrong types to have scripts only accessible for pay (People who would rather pay money than learn). I'm not opposed to something to get more donations for Villavu if that's needed, but this doesn't seem like a good way to do it.

Just doesn't really fit in with the learning side of things that we try to encourage here imo.

I've been inactive for a while, i've been thinking and im intrested in the scene of making a bit of money making scripts, I know its been against the rules before. But is there any oportunity for this?

You are always allowed to sell scripts you wrote. Just not on this forum.

I like it when I know of scripts people are selling b/c it gives me something to work towards to release for free :)

Premium script section? If it's considered leaking then whatever but: the members script section would be the "premium script section" of SRL right this moment, and TBH, the last entry was a long time back, and the scripts that are in there are scarce if not outdated. The Jr. Member section isn't much better either. If you are going to have premium scripts, you better give the rich leeches their money's worth. If the idea catches on, you will have created Sythe. If the idea REALLY catches on, nobody will come here for the community, making it even more dead (is that possible?) and we may as well take the "RL" off of SRL and put "ythe" in it's place. I thought this community was for open source Simba. I know this sounds hypocritical because I am not a donor and refuse to pay for something I could challenge myself to make, but I don't support the idea. A lounge? Yeah sure! But don't cut the community out of SRL.

This is in the SRL Members section right now so you aren't leaking anything.

Money does not equal maturity, skill or contribution and should thus not equal power.
This means it should not be possible to rank up using wealth nor should it be possible to achieve an unfair advantage with it.

SRL has always been against "pay for power" and I hope it will always stay that way (which I am certain and relieved it will as long as Wizzup is the main staff leader).

This community has always been about learning, progression and maturity; premium script sections are available at each increment in the rank ladder and if users truly want some of the more "unique" scripts then they will become available when the user has proven him or herself worthy of them.

This system, however, does not appeal to the masses (which is a good thing in my eyes because more people equals more problems).

Now, our current state of premium scripts in the SRL Member section are (as previously stated) rather outdated.
This tells me two things:
1. SRL Members have their rank because they know how to script themselves and enjoy it: They are more likely able to create their own script if they want one and since they enjoy the process of creating something then they are more likely to do so themselves.
2. SRL Members want their script to be used and thus they publish their scripts to the public sections in order to generate feedback for their script and their reputation.

We have before tried a system where the public scripts have no ability to use the bank. Maybe the SRL Members could reconsider that option?

The SSRL scripts section are likewise outdated but it has some golden nuggets in it too; some members have sold rs gold worth thousands of dollars using those scripts.

The bottom line is that the SRL Members create their own environment, just as SSRL Members create theirs: If SRL Members want their script section more populated then they are the ones that can populate it.

One way of creating a more updated script section among SRL Members could be to publish a more updated version ("pro") to the SRL Members, while publishing a lesser version ("lite") to the public.

E: If you want to, you can add a donate button / link to your script thread. I guess if anyone wants to send the people that donate for a lite version a "thank you"-message afterwards with a pro version script attached, then I think I'd be fine with that as long as it is not advertised.

It's been done in the past as well, not a new idea so I shouldn't get credit for it, but yes, I agree it's a good solution :)


Just another note on the donate thing: I added "I guess" and "I think" to the whole "attach pro version in PM" for a reason. There is a fine line between selling scripts and giving them away as a thank-you message which people should be careful about…

I never thought about it being dead, if we were in need of money, I think we all would be happy to help out ;)

I think we should lean more towards the lite/pro version mentioned earlier. I liked the scripts that were that way when I first joined SRL.

TBH if you want to sell scripts, there are many more forums for that, that are already in place and substantial in customer amount.

I feel we just make scripts when we want them… lol it IS how we got in :)
