Computer/Gaming Eyewear

I use the computer for at least 4-8 hours per day and sometimes I even feel that my eyes get tired, dry at times. After a short research I found out about "Gunnars" glasses which help your eyes and they even make the "picture" on your computer look better. The cheapest one's cost $60–$70 but then I also found some "NoScope" glasses which only cost $20 and they say to do the same thing as the Gunnars. Has anyone tried or have any kind of glasses for "gaming". I play league of Legends so thats 2 hours of my time.

I have a pair of gunnars.
I really only have ever used them at work though with the harsh/annoying fluorescent lights. At home i never use my lights, so… I never really liked them there.
Ive never really had problem with my eyes hurting from staring at a screen all day, id imagine any strain is more due to the lighting conditions and stuff.

Id suggest using a program called fl.ux that basically just changes the color balance to match sunrise/sunset on your monitors to not be so bright an annoying. (its pretty neat, takes a bit to get used to though)

So… are they worth it? Meh. I paid like 30$ for mine on woot last spring. Maybe if you keep looking theyll show back up again.
The frames are very… flimsy. well, not flimsy per say.. buut… they arent hardcore strong like regular glasses.

EDIT… what are the odds? they are on sellout.woot right meow.

Never used any glasses but the lighting conditions will for sure affect your eye strain. When I'm at work we originally only had fluorescent lighting with the cold color tubes. Using LCD monitors made me very tired and caused a lot of eye strain. Someone recommended getting glasses like those, but I put in an order for newer tubes that have warm colors(actually 3 tubes to cover warm, cold, neutral) which makes work less depressing :), and replaced the LCD monitors with LED backlit ones. I can go hours without any sort of eye-fatigue. More expensive than glasses, sure but it really has made a huge difference.

Also at home, I have LED monitors, and I can go hours at night with lights off without any strain, but I generally keep my lamps on to provide some extra lighting. I used to get frequent headaches before that. So I would recommend having good lighting in your room, and maybe the glasses ontop of that could also help.

LCD monitors are lit by a cold cathode fluorescent lamp which causes eye strain from the light flickering. Though you can't see the flicker, it essentially turns on and off x-times per second and that's what causes strain on your eyes. That's why florescent lighting makes you tired.

I stare at the computer screen sometimes 16 hours a day, I just use F.lux and haven't had any problems with my eyes. The only time I notice my eyes bothering me is when I am watching tv. It's really nice that it follows the sunrise and sunset pattern and has variable brightness's built in. It cuts out a lot of the blue harsh light and makes working at nights seem so much better.

This is what I have mine set at right now and I don't experience any problems with my eyes bothering me or even bloodshot eyes like I used to get. It does make looking at other peoples computer screens very harsh sometimes, especially in dark rooms, but I only ever really use my own personal laptop, so its fine with me.

Ohh, and f.lux is free to download and use.
