Thoughts?
I think this is a great deal for the price… honestly I couldn't find a laptop that matched the specs until I reached $2,500 + !

How many smarts you think I can run on that bad boy?
Looks nice. I've always liked Lenovo laptops too, they seem quite well built.

Lenovos are great :)
The price for that pc is great, it has a nice ssd with a good 1tb hd
Keep this in mind, this isn't a light, small, mac book… I have a lenovo and it sometimes get annoying
I have a similar laptop, mine is a hybrid graphics aswell, however, one is Intel HD (shitty graphics) and one is Nvidia. This makes it good because it stretches my battery live when i'm doing nothing but browsing the internet since it will only use the shit graphics card. If you can customize the battery, pay the extra $20 and get the 9 cell battery, its much worth it in my opinion. It's been almost two years for me, and i still have a 6 hour battery life (originally 9 hours but wore down).

You could run Calculator, Mine Sweeper, NotePad, dare I say MS Paint? Amazing!
But seriously, that's a nice laptop.

May do that though I always keep laptops plugged in

I have essentially this exact laptop just a year or two older, its a great machine but it is heavy.. and it doesn't look pretty compared to all your friends who have sleek slim machines.

Thats a pretty good laptop, but having purchased a high end laptop as well, I would say get a desktop and a decent laptop.
I feel like having a dedicated computer with an okay laptop for taking notes, would be better than having just a decent laptop.
I have to say, a 750M is going to run things really well, but it will get really hot, really quick and then cut back on performance.
Also, I would guess you could run 6-8 smarts on that, that's all I used to be able to run on my 2.4 i7 (a few generations old now, 2760QM).
E: Trust me, on a bigger campus, carryign around an extra 6 lbs will definitely be noticeable, my laptop is ~7 lbs and I notice that carrying it around bothers my back sometimes. And finding a backpack to fit a 17.3 in laptop was a pain for me as well, I ended up buying an Alienware 18 in book bag to make sure it fit.
Also, is 8gb big enough for 64bit windows? I know I needed a minimum of like 18 gb to be able to install windows on my SSD. Nvm, just noticed its a hybrid hard drive.

I only get 1 computer for college :s but good suggestions. I have been looking into other laptops and stuff this is definitely not my final choice.
The only thing holding me back is the battery life, I wouldn't mind getting something less expensive (even though I'm not paying for it)

Then I don't suppose you've ever had a 17inc laptop before, I bouthgt an asus laptop like that at the start of the year but lunging it around is definitely not worth it. For taking notes you only need a 1kg tablet or so whic is what I ended up buying. It's not like you're goingto be playing ac4 in class or anything unless you're using spec intensive stuff in class a $500 notebook is fine.

I'm not buying it just to take notes in class… I only need 2-3 hours of battery

One thing to note is the quality of the screens in all the y series aren't that vibrant (almost a washed out look) compensates for whats in the machine but it might of changed with the 410p models but I've owned 2 of the previous models. Other than that they are great laptops and you will be able to run 8-14 smarts depending on the script. Also why not buy it from lenovo it is much cheaper and they offer student discounts for an extra $20-50 off.

Well.. what else are you buying it for to do in class?
It's usually not a good idea to buy gaming laptops for school. You get distracted and what not. You'll want to play games and do other things.
Business is business. Keep your school stuff away from your out of school stuff. Well.. that's what I do anyway..
Other than that, it really is a nice laptop but like others said, I doubt you're going to want to carry it around all the time.. Especially if you carry around books or homework and study notes as well.

Well of course I'm not going to game with it inside of class. But i'll use it for gaming outside of class and maybe even a small gold farm
