Tutorial section restructure

Does anyone else think that the Help and Tutorials section is in desperate need of a restructure? Tutorials which I can imagine would frequently get read are hidden away in a number of sub forums and are a pain to find. Also, why are topics like pixel shift tucked away in the OSRS section? Something like that is useful for RS3 and OSRS.

I was thinking go back to how it used to be; a dedicated tutorial section and a dedicated help section. Obviously the tutorial section would have sub forums for setting up Simba/SRL, scripting, education etc.. Prefixes could be introduced in the scripting and setting up sub forums to distinguish between guides which are for either RS3 or OSRS, or both. Similarly prefixes could be used in the help section to make life easier.

This way is definitely an improvement in my eyes. Opinions?

It's really very difficult to do as most tutorials work for both osr and rs3.

The real issue imo is updating tutorials to work (give examples) for both, but as we know a lot of members who wrote tutorials are inactive.

I'm not fond of labeling a tutorial as [OSR] when changing a single function can make it work for [RS3].

We just restructured it and split it into RS3 and OSR. There reason most guides are in the OSR section is because they likely won't work for RS3 and Lape. Yeah, most of the concepts apply to both, but the code and examples won't work in both and that only causes more confusion and frustration.

If you have a more organized and clear structure, please post it and we can take a look. :)

E: Help and Tutorials used to be separated. I'm not sure what the reason for combining them was, but I'm sure it was good if most of the staff members agreed to it. I suppose they could be separated again, but that would have to go up for discussion.

E2: I like the current structure. It may be better if it was moved out of the Public Forum and into it's own section, though.

We need someone to go through and update all the tutorials. :p

@Coh3n, it's own section would definitely be better than it is at the moment. And when you say update, do you mean make all of the tutorials which currently apply to only OSR apply to RS3 as well?

Yes. Obviously, there are A LOT of guides, but I can't imagine it would take a ton of work to update a few of them.

When we split the tutorials into RS3 and OSR sections, we talked about having a section for tutorials that applies to both, but that would make it even more difficult to find something you want; having to look in the RS3 and the section for both.

I wouldn't be against having a Help and Tutorials section outside the public section. @Daniel; @Hobbit; @BraK; @Zyt3x; @masterBB; @YoHoJo; @Justin;

I think it would be better to have it's own section outside of SRL Public, IMO it should stand out so people don't have to hunt high and low to find it.

I liked having the tutorial island like we did before. It also had a classic RS feel to it.

@masterBB;

I am very sorry for my lack of participation on this forum lately. I will try to come back as soon as possible. But as some of you know, I currently work full time as a researcher at a big international company, specificaly at a departement producing fertilizer spreaders. This consumes about 45 hours + 10 hours a week(time spend working + travel time). In the weekends I follow a study taking all my spare time too. I do not have 'any' vacation or breaks because of trying to fit in my personal live at those times. Though I still care about this community and the road it follows, my actual influence might be considerably lower then compared to previous times.

So thanks for mentioning me, but I currently do not have a lot of time to give my opinion on forum matters/problems. This is my official post declaring my semi inactivity on the forum. I will still check my pm box weekly if not daily. And if you need to contact the staff you can still pick me as your moderator. If you have any coding problems, specifically any advanced problems, don't hestitate to contact me, but my response might be slow. As Schwarzenegger said many times: "I'l be back!".

Gimme ability to change their posts and I'll update them!

Or I suppose I could just do it in word and send it to you or just make a new topic…

Heh, I always thought SSRL could edit posts.

I think making a new topic would be the best solution.

I agree with Brak. It was a massive section where you couldn't miss it. I'm sure a beginner would easily miss tutorials and help section (I myself always find it hard to spot when trying to look/check up on something :/)
The site is about learning and that is what the tutorial side of villavu is about.

@Hobbit; is just excluding himself from the conversation in a respectful matter.
I think I have to do the same on this one :p Christmas time is family time.

Sorry this took so long to do. I forgot about it, then had to figure how to do it. :p

I like it better this way. :)
