Hello again everyone!

I wanted to let you know with as much information as possible about an upcoming change to the Coinshare system.

Following on from the success of Bonds we're still doing as much as we can to combat inflation in game and Coinshare is actually a major source of what we call "gold injection".

Inflation is caused when the total amount of money (actual coins, not items) in the economy goes up. Due to a process of complicated economics, this then gradually makes the price of everything rise so that your money is worth less.

Gold injection is when a game mechanic creates coins directly rather than either creating items or moving coins around between players. Coinshare does this by giving the players who use it money immediately, even if the item doesn't sell or isn't worth what the GE thinks it's worth.

We have an upcoming change, which was supposed to be in next week's update but looks likely to slip to the week after, which is going to address this. With the new system, Coinshare will work a little differently.

When you kill a boss in a group which has chosen to use Coinshare, the drop will be split up into 120 identical shards. These shards will be distributed equally to everyone in the group. Shards can be combined together into the item if you have any 120 of them. This means each member of the group is free to sell their shards (for an expected value of 1/120th of the market price of the item) or hold on to them and try to collect enough from future drops to finish the object.

(Shards will be put directly in your bank rather than sitting in your inventory so you don't need to worry about running out of room on a long bossing session.)

I won't lie, this will be an inconvenience for some bossers. Rather than getting the money directly, you'll now have to sell the items yourself. However, that convenience was coming at the expense of the long-term health of the economy and ultimately reducing the value of everyone's gold.

There is one direct benefit though, which is that items which have a street value higher than max cash (like Vorago's drops on launch) can now actually get that value from Coinshare because the total of 120 shards of that item can exceed max cash.

Saw this on the RSOF and surprised it didn't get posted here - shame on you @Four ;)
Basically means inflation is going to go down (y) and gold prices to rise/stay stable?
Love this so much :D

Lol @

Due to a process of complicated economics

And this actually sounds pretty lame. The prices of items are lower then they have ever been, why were they not doing this stuff back in 2010 when there was an actual inflation problems (PvP statues)

Sounds lame to you but It think its great as someone who cares about gold prices. Coinshare probably brings the 2nd most money into the game (since theres only alching and gold drops outside of that. Other than selling to shops and stuff that bring in next to nothig).

Yea but theres not really a big inflation problem. Gold prices are bad because people are quitting Runescape, not just because of inflation.

People are buying less gold then they did 1-2 years ago.

I agree with the second part. But there is definitely a big inflation problem. Its just only become so clear now that bots are getting banned and the resources are drying up.

Look at the prices. They are all going down. Did you play in 2009-2010? Because of Pvp Statues, EVERYTHING increased in prices massively,

First circle shows when statues were released, the second shows when the wild was brought back and then only revs dropped them (resulting in them being much more rare)

Red cricle shows wild brought back:

Look at pretty much any item and you will find the same

Not everything increased…Pvp ruined many drops like DFH, DFS, visage etc. Also it inflated the economy wayyyyy to much, and gold prices didn't keep up with it. back then, best money making p/h (non pking) was gwd…5mil-10mil/hr if you're lucky. Keying was 12mil/hr when dging got going. But ags cost 100mil+ Pernix top cost 1.1bil+ and normal skilling methods took YEARS to make enough money to get items(avg like 300k/hr for a good method). Where as atm you could make air orbs for one day and get full bandos lol.

Bottom line, runescape has NEVER had a balanced economy, it has always been ruined in some aspect, and that is what jagex is trying to fix, they don't want it to be a PVP eco like before….or a skilling eco like now. They want it to be fully balanced, so no matter what you do you still can make money. You shouldn't be forced to rwt for it (im looking at this from a game standpoint, not botting or rwting)

Wow this is great. Inflation in the RS economy was ridiculously out of hand with billions of GP being introduced into the game everyday. I loved the old system where GP was taken out because of the EP system and BH statues and stuff.
