Does Simba have anything like this?

http://wiki.scar-divi.com/SendInterSCARMessage and http://wiki.scar-divi.com/ReadInterSCARMessage

Or any way to have two instances of Simba communicate with each other without using RuneScape itself.

This would be highly useful for a script idea that I've had cooking in the back of my head for some time.

Help is appreciated.

I'm not sure if it has one built in, but you could probably make one with sockets or something.

That seems pretty advanced to me. I've just read over it quickly and it seems like I'd need to run a third instance of Simba to be the server(?). Never done anything with sockets before but hey, I like learning new stuff.

Is that a bad thing?

Someone who trashed simba and got disallowed access to the site for the longest time.

Trust me I've heard trashed used quite frequently… just wasn't sure what it was supposed to mean exactly in this case.

Still interesting

What kind of data you want to share? Just string?

Yes, just simple strings.

For example, in SCAR code for script 1 it'd be:

SendInterSCARMessage('script1', 'SCRIPT STATE: IDLE');

And then in script 2, I'd have:

if ReadInterSCARMessage('admin', 'SCRIPT STATUS: IDLE') then
begin
writeLn('InterSCARMessage received, moving into position...');
doStuff;
end;

You could just communicate through file I/O? Although i don't see much need for communication b/w 2 simba unless you have to perform 2 different tasks simultaneously on 2 different target window.

I'd either go the file I/O route or sockets, with sockets being more dependent on the activity being across multiple computers.

I believe DGBY (I can't remember the numbers in his name <.<) finished async sockets for simba.

Please refrain from starting a flame war again, Wanted…

To answer the OP's question: Sockets is the closest you'll get. AFAIK, Simba doesn't have functions like this because of it's aim to function across multiple operation systems.

I think Wanted is doing fine so far in this thread.

On the original note, @Dgby714: are the asynchronous sockets in place? :)

I find your post very instigating and flame-baitish tbh. =/

I've done something like this a while back.
@OP, you can save current status to an ini file and read from the same ini file also.

If they're on the same computer, FileIO will be the best. If they're on two different ones, then you'll have to use Sockets.

That was my original idea, but I thought InterSCARMessage was waaay cooler.

Thanks guys, I'll look into both of these - sockets and I/O, thought I suspect INI file write/read is rather easy :noobface:

I/O is the ini stuff and that is best for same computer simba instances. I only recommend sockets across computers.

That'll be it, then. I only want to communicate across two local instances, so that's perfect. Thanks everybody.
