Hi,

So I checked the special SRL bank account (where all the ad sense money goes ; and all the server costs come from). And it seems we have some spare money. I don't want to go into numbers, but I was interested if you guys had some idea on what we could do with it. I'm not talking about spending it all, but maybe we could create some cups, hats, etc… The main problem I see with that is shipping.


Suggestions? Anything goes.

Think it would be awesome to print all cups with a 3d printer. There must be someone on these forums with a 3d printer and I wouldn't be suprised if you had one yourself. Cover the costs of the materials needed.

Would definately put a Simba cup on my bicycle key chain.

Shipping would indeed be a "problem" or the most expensive. But 3d printed cups would fit in a normal letter. It's not that expensive to send a letter from The Netherlands to countries like Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, etc. Then someone else in the US could 3d print there and send it around to US people.

Yes, or people could order from some large merchandise site (to their own house) and I could reimburse a part of it.

I'd buy a shirt and coffee mug, but shipping to Indonesia would be a bit pricey.

At the moment I'm not sure how to use the money as a benefit for the community but give me some time today and I'll get back to this post, hopefully with a handful of suggestions.

Some other ideas:

• Can buy some of the most active members of the community something. But this will probably happen by sending them money and having them buy it themselves. Because shipping would be way too expensive and a waste of money.
• We could use it for bounties. And by that I don't mean the coconut-bar. We could set a bounty of 25 dollar/euro on a certain feature in SRL or Simba. The main problem I can see here is that we cannot always pay for features and people obviously shouldn't be expected to be paid. But for someone people I can imagine it may just be the extra push they need.

There has got to be a way to have the cups drop shipped or shipped as a gift type thing from a 3D printing company. I've seen some pretty neat products online that are shipped directly from the company manufacturing them.

I think shapeways is a good example of what I was thinking of. However, they're prohibitively expensive: the same amount of material that would cost $5 for me to purchase at the rate my school gets would cost $25 to purchase through shapeways.

Stickers? I'd love to buy some simba or srl stickers for my laptop / whatever. I'd even gladly pay for the shipping as well!

Shirts! I'd pay a good $20-$30 + shipping for a shirt if I liked the design. There are sites out there that allow a design to be submitted and then you can order from them, or you could order 50 for example, and then resell them all to us, with a profit.

Yes, I still think that idea is the one with the most impact while also staying cheap enough for a couple of members.

Seriously, though.

Stickers is a cool idea, so are t-shirts, mugs and key chains. I'd probably buy all of them. Shipping might not be that bad. If overseas shipping is too much, I can ship them to North America while you shipped to Europe.

I actually have a friend who owns a VERY successful merchandise company. I might be able to swing a deal, or at least get a quote for a certain amount of merchandise.
