It might seems like a lot of reading but its worth it. Here are some decent tutorials that taught me how to do TPAs (great object finding methods!)
http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49067 Best one I read. Really deep and nitty gritty. It'll get you going
http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33111 Shorter and a little less in depth, no pics
http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42428 Short and good, lots of pics and well explained. For sure go through this one if you don't read Naums

Well, There is many functions depending on what you're trying to do!

The Two Best/Simplest yet effective would be:

-FindColourTolerance. Amazing yet simple tutorial by StickToTheScript Here

Then There is the More advanced Method called TPA/ATPA's. I prefer these, alot more accurate and they can pretty much find anything if you know how to use them :D

Check out a tutorial for them Here and an amazing simple one here. But its lil outdated.

Hope that helps :) Feel free to ask for a more specific question if needed
