I am planning on doing some changes to Simba's UI, and am wondering if any of the users have some suggestions?

Ignoring the long list of bugs involving the function list as not UI changes…

Perhaps the BMP editor could be a button instead of whichever annoying menu it's in.

Isn't it in the Tools menu? (Which makes more sense than having it's own menu…)

And the I'm doing a pretty big update to the backend of Simba, and will require ether heavy modification of the frontend or a redesign.

Would some basic text highlighting be too much to ask for? (maybe the words procedures/functions could be color highlighted)

Low on the priority list but I'd thought I would throw it out there :s

We already have syntax highlighting and our current text control doesn't allow coloring words different colors. So not any time soon.

what about having the error message offer a list of solutions? This could encourage people to script as they will know what they are doing wrong and how to fix it. Or if you type in a function and the "autocorrect" comes up saying the parameters, press enter and it will put in the basic parameters, because sometimes its hard to understand the parameters and not always an example in the include.

Yes it does?

Might be worth it to look at this topic: http://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82254
I like the current UI but it might be nice to be able to change themes; a darker theme would be nice.

Possibly more in depth than a simple colour change, but how about a report box? SCAR had one and it was pretty handy. If the script is set to debug a progress report can easily get lost in there, but a report box would stop that happening.

Asfaik, no, it allows whole lines and bold words, but not specific words, it can prob be done, but not ootb.

Highlighting if blocks?

Some sort of bookmarking would be nice. Using an F2, ctl-f2, etc. would be great for navigating around inside a script rather than having to click the func/proc names over and over again.

Give extensions its own menu instead of hiding it under view. That would be awesome imo.

Being able to open up an include via functions list(right click->open file?). That and insert the function into simba by double clicking on it

Yeah, though ctrl + click in the script already brings you to the include. Still, would be cool.

Would love to see folder exploring (Explore) feature (I suggested this feature to Freddy in past, cant remember exactly when he added it in SCAR):

Tools => Explore:
-Root Folder (Simba folder)
--------------
-Includes Folder
-Extensions Folder
-Fonts Folder
-Scripts Folder
-Plugins Folder
--------------
-Script's Folder (for current script, this one only works with saved scripts)

Pretty please! This feature really makes things a lot easier/quicker when working with/around includes.

I am a power user of it whenever I am scripting with SCAR.
..there's also often moments when I try to do jumping to current script file's folder in Simba aswell, but that obviously always ends up sad way, because the feature is missing…

Thanks. :)

Never thought of that before, but couldn't agree more. The amount of times I try go to open an SRL file through Simba and have to go through loads of folders, this would definitely be handy.

First world problems, I know…

Thanks for the great suggestion, but this is kinda simple, could prob be done in an extention. I'm more asking for things you'd like to see changed for the next major version.

We are starting to brainstorm on what to do for Simba 2.0, and it's gotten us developers excited =)

We are changing big sections of the backend of Simba which will require a rewrite of the UI.

And we know y'all don't want it to look exactly the same =)

Yeah, after we rewrite everything (basically…), it will be a lot easier to release OSX and Linux Simbas (with only Lape)

On another note, I've got the function list working great with Lape, as well as some basic Code Completion. =)

Can we have tabs in the bottom? Like a tab which only shows proggies, one for the debug etc etc

OS X will still be hard, because cross compilation from Linux to OS X is a damn pain. :)

Linux is my only request <3

Tabbed debugging (kind of been suggested with the report box suggestion). Also, a "Show Hidden Functions" button or menu option. Will show code in the function list that is hidden by your new code in site directives.

I know =P, @Hobbit; said he'd look into getting me a Mac to work with (even if it's ssh or vnc)

I know, I've already spoken with Bart about it, he said he wanted to try first =P

I think all that needs to be done is add a MenuItem and a Setting, then OnChange it to update CoreDefines (Defines used by CodeInsight).

Pretty easy stuff, if Bart can't do it, I'll have it done in a few minutes. It's a lot easier when you know the code base. =)

Simba 1.0 has one. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done for now.
