Ive asked before for threads to be deleted that were from like 06-09 and everyone got mad saying they're still relevant and can still answer questions so there is no point deleting them..

But i agree with you, they should be deleted considering they are all outdated..But yeah thats what Admins told me :L

Is there any reason for threads from 06-09 to be deleted? There have been many times where I've found an answer to my question through searching and finding old threads. If they are deleted that would just increase the number of threads people create asking the same questions.

Depends, some of them are still relevant.

Yeah, I don't know how they got there. I think some mod screwed up when moving threads or something.

With every public thread (from invention of the internet to present) the potential for the forums to gain a new member increases. Also with every public post the chances of any of the several search engine spiders indexing the particular page (and thus our forums as a whole) under related keywords goes up. Also, I'm sure there are other websites out there that link to some of our old public content, and that existing content contributes to the overall rank placement on search engines.

Google for example uses a PR (pagerank) system that mainly takes into account the amount of external back links when determining your pagerank (Scale of 1 to 10, The www.villavu.com domain is currently a 2 with 2,075 external back-links). Your pagerank is a major factor in deciding if you appear as the "I'm feeling lucky" (1st) result or appear as result number 3.5823 x 1012 where nobody will ever see you.

In essence, deleting public content is like deleting future users. You never know which new member is going to create the next "impossible" script (like the first Dungeoneering scipt), become a great SRL Developer who somehow revolutionizes the SRL library, or donate five bucks. Do we really want to decrease our chances of acquiring these possible future members? Because if we delete old (or any) public content then that is exactly what we are doing.

From past experience as a webmaster I have formed my opinion, but I am open to any differing opinion with a valid argument.
For additional info regarding this process be sure to research Search Engine Optimization.

Oh lol. My reply was mainly to address the requests to delete old content from 06-09 & hopefully explain why officials were so against it. Just thought I would address deleting content while we were on the subject.

My reply only applies to public content though as private stuff isn't visible to the search engine spiders. Adding an auto-prune to private content that hasn't been viewed in X number of days wouldn't be a bad idea.

Moved to the correct location. Not sure what happened/why they were there.
