So my dad got a new windows8 laptop in like April 2013, we turned it on, set it up, and since have not used it simply because we already have a desktop + a windows 7 laptop. (Also not impressed with the metro theme..)
So i booted it up Friday, installed the windows updates, and it seems to be running pretty well. Here are the specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz
Installed memory(RAM) 8.00GM (7.86 GB useable)
I know that's hella good RAM, at-least compared to my desktop (4 GB) useful, but is that a decent processor?
Things I don't like:
- Macfee security is installed by defualt, it's almost like a virus in itself, in asks for you to renew subscription every 5 minutes.
-No start icon. This makes it annoying to navigate to control panel.. I guess I'm not used to it yet
-The metro theme. It's almost like windows 8 was designed for people who don't know how to use a computer. But I guess Apple fanboys always say windows isn't easy to use like Apple products so Microsoft did something about it
Things I like:
- I like the side scrollbars and the windows layout how it's a plain sq kinda
- Running fast
- A new computer is always a "positive"
Overall I don't think theres anything atleast to me that was a positive that really stood out.. I'm just happy that it has good specs though :p I can get used to the "user friendly" metro theme later

but is that a decent processor? That's one of the best I've ever seen in a laptop actually.(Yes)

You'll get used to it. If you're smart, you'll enable hyper-v in the control panel, install windows 7/8 on that and use that instead. That's what I do. If I ever get a virus, I simply reset the Hyper-V machine and continue on. ;)
I don't use any anti-virus or malware detection anymore but I think you might like Avast instead of McAfee.

Don't use it ?
I don't want to install anything unofficial on the laptop like that because it's not mine

Then why do you use it when you can't install your own shit on it ?

Theres a difference between installing a program and installing something that will radically change the way you navigate on the computer. It's rude to install something like that on somebody else's computer.
That's a beast processor for a laptop.. An i7.. Damnnn…
Yes that are good specs, it does most likely have a good GPU aswell. My laptop has an i7 3610qm / 8 gb ram / gt 650m videocard / 256 gb SSD. It's blazing fast, faster than my PC. Only downside is that it can't handle 1920x1080 gaming properly, but after all it's a laptop. On a 15.6" screen 1366x768 does still look pretty good. But I usually play on 1920x1080 on low/medium settings depending on the game. But I actually haven't played any games in the past few months.
Windows 8 seems a bit weird at first but once you get used to it it's really nice. Especially with a multi gesture trackpad you can navigate extremely quick. I hope to buy a Surface RT using the educational offer (199$) this week.. tomorrow I will know if my university will participate with Microsoft to offer it to it's students.
You lack a touch screen at certain times. However, new ultrabooks do all have a touch screen as it's a new requirement.
Windows 8.1 will bring a lot improvements. You can install a preview if you want, gives you a "start" button that brings you to the metro interface. Full version should release in August.

Hm weird, seems like a driver related issue or something. I had some problems with the touchpad gestures but after Asus released a new driver it was all sorted out.
