electrical conductivity, check

carbon.

how we make it 3D:

can support around 10,000 times its weight

That's awesome stuff! Seems like it would be time consuming to make though, being so complicated and all. (I could be wrong, idk how they do it :p)

cheaper than anything else we currently make

imagine 3D printers with it.

basically it's stronger, lighter, more conductive with heat & electricity than everything else we have.
and cheaper.

there's some experimental battery that powers smart phones for like a week & takes ~5 seconds to charge

Looks neato but it does seem expensive I'm surprised its not

Cool, do you know how the battery works? I wonder how soon until it's available to consumers.

E: Some info on the batter here: http://gigaom.com/2013/04/29/holy-graphene-giving-batteries-a-boost-with-graphene-and-tiny-holes/

I want to make love to this battery

Part of the issue with making Graphene 3d is that the carbons used to connect the two or more sheets are weak. The more force put on a carbon bond, the more likely it is to react with something else.

Im confused as to what those pictures are of as well because last I knew scientists had a very hard time making even a small amount, let alone massive chunks like that. I would assume those are pictures of graphite and not graphene.

I don't think graphite is that light though. It says it's called graphene aerogel, "The sponge-like matter is made of freeze-dried carbon and graphene oxide and is the lightest solid material in the world."

just read it O_o

samsung has a processor with graphene, they're a lot further than they were 3 years ago, lol

I guess I'm not reading the same article as everyone else. I just saw the buzzword graphene used and not any explanation of how its being made (freeze dried carbon and graphene oxides is not a very good explanation). I also don't see any mention of the word aerogel within the actual article, but perhaps I suck at reading this early in the morning :P

Nah, wiki is fine with me. I just had no idea so much work had been done on this topic in the last few years! Really interesting stuff!

I never really see wiki bashing around here, I can't stand when teachers do it

just gotta copy paste all this @ them

it's basically a miracle material.. of course we're going to go insane on it.

Funny you should bring this up… Just a month ago i wrote a paper about CNTs (carbon nano tubes) being using in thermal paste. some of the articles were pretty interesting. Lemme see if i can post these somewhere… (all pdfs) (pdf file limit is 19.5 kb? well… guess ill have to put them on docs later)
