I do believe the location is completely random and is a substantial bit of luck.

no, there is 100 spawn point each world, it loops around after every 100 pick.

World 345 is apparently the world that a couple of clans are searching in, so that would increase the spawn rate.

Is there a specific clan chat we can join?

I heard that all Rare items that will be given on 07, would be given every year for those who missed their chance. Not tradable and they will be available every year.

This is what Jagex has reported which is why I am not too worried about getting them.

I wonder if it'd be worthwhile to log on 10-20 accounts and just sit at one different loc with each lol.

Didn't get a scythe when i tried to go hunting for one :( owell..

Scythes aren't tradable in EOC..
so they prob aren't in OS either?

I logged in one time to bot and saw one on the floor. :D Very lucky.
TBH, I think your best bet is either world hopping constantly, or just camping a spot on world 345, the one where people are meant to be searching for them as a clan.

I went at this for a couple hours last night. No luck. I guess I'll just wait til the holiday event :\
