Hey guys,

This is just a general thread to gauge community opinion on the forum and the way things are currently set up. So, if you have any gripes with the way things are (e.g. the forum-layout), please let us know and a way to improve it and we shall take it under consideration :)

All users, regardless of rank, are welcome and encouraged to submit opinions/rants on the site.

Please keep feedback mature and intelligible.

Please NOTE: This is purely for the website and not for Simba/SRL-related development.

Regards,
~ The SRL Staff.

^ Hobbit was supposed to come back to this when he had the time but honestly I haven't seen him online once since then. I hope everything's ok…

I see that's in the Members section so I'll quote myself here for the sake of < SRL Members:

From: Flight
Heya, there's a few changes I'd like to see to certain ranks & forums. Please give me some input on what you agree with or don't agree with, or if you've anything you'd also like to see change do post here and I'll add it to this list.

Keep in mind, these are only my opinions, they are not concert, they're just what I believe would be practical changes.

Forum suggestions section
-Someone had suggested this not too long ago. I believe it was suggested by just a registered user, thus it didn't get so much attention. I personally think it'd be nice to have a place where users can share suggestions on changes they'd like to see on the forums, or atleast Members / Jr Members and above if it calls for it.

Public Scripts & OSR Scripts moderators
-Those selected to moderate and maintain the public scripts section should absolutely have the same power in the Old School Scripts section. There's really a need there for active moderation yet as far as I can see only Super Moderators & Administrators can maintain this section at this time. I suggest all current moderators of the Public Scripts section as well as SRL Developers have the ability to moderate this section in addition to the Public Scripts section. In addition, perhaps also the team appointed to maintaining the SRL-OSR library.

Categories for OSR Scripts section
-This speaks for itself. There's quite a few scripts stacking up in the newly added Old School Scripts section and honestly there needs to be origination here. It's obvious OSR will draw a lot of attention and, I assume, will constantly draw in more scripts. It will only grow from here on out, so before it really gets crowded in there with random scripts scattered around let's make categories exactly like what we have in the Public Scripts section.

Additional sections in OSR
-I suggest a Research & Development section for OSR

Small tweak to the Help and Tutorials section
-Because tutorials may be made but differ between RS2 and OSR I suggest an optional tag to be added to the top of a thread title, choosing between "(none)", "[RS2]", "[All]" and "[OSR]". It's not really high priority but it would clarify between various tutorials posted.

OSR Scripts added to the Quick Links
-That section receives a lot traffic, let's make it easily accessible just as the Public Scripts section is.

I had more but that's all I can think of for the time being. If I remember any more or if others have suggestions I'll add them here.

Unfortunately, I cannot really see this working out, as aren't most guides general and can be applied to either RS/OSR (aside from a few specific ones, e.g., "How to setup XXXXX")?

About the R&D section for OSR; I was thinking along the lines of randoms development. Perhaps CynicRus's converted solver plugins would be a good example, as well as the unofficial OSR version of SPS. Upcoming projects related to this version of RS (and SRL-OSR itself).

I would like to rant about SRL Stats being broken for over a year, but I don't think it falls under the 'website related' category so I will keep my mouth shut :p

E: Also I've reported about 20+ outdated scripts in the past (outdated well before EOC) and they are still clogging up the working scripts section.

1) let lape have its own catagory, it's not popular now but a lot of people still don't know about it because its a sub catagory
2) osr sections like flight said
3) option for us to delete threads in all sections, there are still some sections were I cannot delete my own threads
4) maybe a once a year srl event were people get prizes, like srl superlatives, like catagory for best scripter, most inactive staff, most likely to give an infraction, biggest spammer, fastest learner, etc etc. winner will receive a cup that they will have for that year until the next event.

It totally does! I didn't realise it was broken :( I'll have to ask Wizzup (as he is the maintainer of SRL stats).

E: Also I've reported about 20+ outdated scripts in the past (outdated well before EOC) and they are still clogging up the working scripts section.

I'll get onto that. The problem is that there are multiple sections where things get reported. And the "reported scripts" section is several sections deep, which staff (obviously) seldom check.

From: Officer Barbrady
1) let lape have its own catagory, it's not popular now but a lot of people still don't know about it because its a sub catagory

I don't think Lape deserves it's own category, as it falls under Simba development (hell, not even PascalScript has its own (sub)forum). People will know about it soon, when SRL-6 is shortly released (and requires Lape).

From: Officer Barbrady

2) osr sections like flight said

Done :)

From: Officer Barbrady

3) option for us to delete threads in all sections, there are still some sections were I cannot delete my own threads

I'll have to look into this. If there was a specific reason as to why people aren't allowed to delete their threads/posts in some sections and not others, then I won't change it. Otherwise, I don't see why not :)

Members regularly run and participate competitions for scripting achievements. Unfortunately, we won't have any prizes for those who continuously break forum rules/for irrelevant things.

That would require a plugin, which Hobbit & Wizzup? (the ones that can install them) are not too keen on (and for good reason too; there has been too many security issues surrounding them). Nonetheless, I'll still bring it up and here's hoping they agree :)

Im Quoting this post because I don't want to quote the massive response above

Ok, so scratch the role breaking ones, we could still have racial yearly/6 month prizes:

Best srl scripter - cup
Most improved - cup
Best additude - cup
Most helpful - cup
Best script (osr/Eoc) - person gets their thread stickied in its section

The winner gets a special cup, and on the next event they "pass" it to the next winner

The winner could be detirmined by srl junior+ votes, srl members could nominate people for the cups.

Also a cup for people who do donate over $30-$40 maybe?

We already have cups for scripter, and helpers. :) As-well as for newcomers that are promising (hence the "promising newcomer" cup). And the sticky thread idea, I am not too fond of - what if a script becomes outdated/not actively maintained throughout that six-twelve month gap? :(

If people want it though, I am sure we can give it a shot. :)

I agree with merging some script sections. Skills like WC and FM go hand in hand, as well as money making and collecting, so it'll definitely neaten the place up a little bit.

Ohh geez.. Ok some things I want:

  • Programming section needs separate subsections for each language. Its a complete mess.
  • One unified section specifically for Simba bugs and a separate sub-forum for Smart bugs. We can't just dump everything into one forum for Smart. It's currently the equivalent of the programming forum.
  • Spoiler tags.
  • Fix the hash tags. When I type #1 , I'm not trying to do the twitter tag, I'm trying to say Number 1. Not #Omggsgsngg .
  • The ability to delete a post after banning/infracting OR have it auto-hide all the user's posts upon "Spam-Bot" ban.
  • Archive section where all old threads that die get placed. Or where all FAQ/Answers go. After all, we have so many threads/tutorials on the same topics over and over and over..
  • Move the Scripts stuff to Runescape section. What exactly is SRL Public if it has "Runescape scripts" which belongs in the "Runescape" section? no?

Oh, one thing just popped into my head. Maybe I'm just being thick, but where has the Advanced Search button gone? The one way I can get there is to click the search button (top left one) with no search criteria, as that tells me to add some more detail and gives me the advanced options.

I'm not sure what happened, but all the programming/language-specific stuff were supposed to be moved here. I think BraK just got lazy and forgot (as it is quite a PITA to use vB admin control panel).

Wizzup? wanted to keep Simba bugs to Mantis Bug Tracker when we were doing the forum restructuring. However, that appears to have changed.

Would it be a good idea to use the vB Project and link to that instead? :)

From: Brandon
  • Spoiler tags.

As has been said before, this requires a plugin/modification of vB source files, which none of the active admins are able to do :( (Only Wizzup? and Hobbit can).

However, I have raised the issue in the staff section, so it won't go by unnoticed :)

From: Brandon
  • Fix the hash tags. When I type #1 , I'm not trying to do the twitter tag, I'm trying to say Number 1. Not #Omggsgsngg .

Haha. That would be a plugin bug and, again, would require Hobbit's attention when he gets back (August).

From: Brandon
  • The ability to delete a post after banning/infracting OR have it auto-hide all the user's posts upon "Spam-Bot" ban.

I used to have this gripe too when I was SSRL and banning all the spam-bots, only to have their spam posts remain open for (sometimes) days on end. Unfortunately, there is no way to do this natively without giving SSRL permission to delete posts in all forums. :(

From: Brandon
  • Archive section where all old threads that die get placed. Or where all FAQ/Answers go. After all, we have so many threads/tutorials on the same topics over and over and over..

Like a graveyard section? I'm not too sure how others feel about that (I think it has been suggested in the past).

I think the duplicate tutorials are a good idea, and provides variety for a user learning about the topic (we did have an SRL Wiki, with plans to have one tutorial for one topic, freely editable and expandable not just by the OP, but this quickly died when nobody wanted to maintain and submit to it :( It's just been a [recently discovered] haven for spam bots, so it has been locked).

And the duplicate questions are just byproducts of online forums, unfortunately, as users are just too lazy to search before posting :(

From: Brandon
  • Move the Scripts stuff to Runescape section. What exactly is SRL Public if it has "Runescape scripts" which belongs in the "Runescape" section? no?

It has always been in SRL Public as it pertains to SRL. That's just how it has always been, since the early days of these forums. If other people want it moved there too, then yeah, I'll do it :)

From: Rich

Script category merging of Slayer and combat would shove me into no longer being the only script in my section! Egads, no longer special!

But in all seriousness, that should probably happen - however I think it should coincide with another update:
The ability to sort threads by topic or (in this new case) skill. Sorting by date is useful in many cases - but what happens we combine stuff like mining and smithing, but I really only care about the 4 smithing scripts and not the 20 mining scripts in the way? (A little bit of an exaggeration on quantity, but nonetheless, the point is there).

Like a drop down menu from the top and all you gotta do is click on the drop down menu and the recently favorites threads would show up there. I love to download old scripts and try to make them work again.. it's a fun little challenge for me ;p ..

Anwyays, to my suggestion..

I always use the new post button..

Before i click something, i read the title and the category..

It's really annoying how categories for OS and EOC are the same..

Because i don't play OS..

The first few times i didn't notice for a while but now im always looking to see if once i click on the thread it will go to..

ForumSRL > PublicRunescape > Scripts > Combat/Fighting Scripts

Or

ForumSRL > Public > Old School Runescape > Old School Scripts > Combat/Fighting Scripts

I hope this makes sense..

Also does it for script requests etc.. anything with the same name as the eoc version.

The tags system is still present in the categories, so you can still sort by the type of script if necessary (however, it would be [like it always has been] still up to the user to appropriately tag their thread when creating it).

@Daniel
What i mean is when we try to view the SRL member application area (where people post their apps) we can't, we have no access. Am not asking we get access to view the topics - but access to see the topics overview, like view sections and not topic contents.

Example: Viewing Official Business Section > can see all the topic titles with the author, but on the right last reply is hidden and if i was to click on a topic i would get access violation. Just something small..

Basically view Member application Section (where people apply for SRL) for guests but no ability to view the topic contents/last reply, just a forum overview.

And once I merge a forum, I am not going to unmerge it. As that would have to be done manually, and would be a complete PITA to individually move every single Y-script from the X forum to the Y forum :(

Powerbot merges crafting with fletching and I'd prefer if they were separate just because they're not complementary skills like mining/smithing and woodcutting/firemaking are.

Other than that it looks fine though. Thanks for taking the time to make all these forum adjustments :)

I'm a fan of keeping them separate… Just b/c it can get confusing to find specific skills if they are merged… just my 2 cents

  • combat & slayer
  • mining & smithing

  • farming & herb

and the rest of the skills in there own section, I generally think it will "less clutter" our sub-forums, and make the sections more active :)

It's not nice, trust me. Since the posts are all left justified by default and then having the boxes centred it looks odd and annoying. Especially since there are many different sizes of screens its just not a good time. I also tried it with a fluid width for the boxes and it still looked messed up being centred because the text for each line is generally fairly short so you are left with this wide box that is half empty.

I would love to see bounties: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-source_bounty

Essentially someone who wishes to see a feature could post a bounty to see it happen, and devs would get GPs. Alternatively a dev could make a post of features that they want to make, and people would donate until they get to a certain point (like kickstarter). You could create another forum section, or even another site in python or something.

I think the main downside would be it would shift the focus of the project from fun to GPs(ideally it would not), although I see no reason why both would not be optimal, I could see why that may be a problem for some. Another problem would be that we are dealing with GPs on a forum and thus: 1. This kinda goes against the forum policy of no RL->RS in the non-member's board, and 2. We will either have to institute Middle-Men, (or just use admins, really) or say that the scripter/donater would be in charge of dealing with it (which is also a viable strategy).

This has worked in other OSS communities, and I've always wondered how well this would integrate into the SRL community :).

I don't know man, I've seen some very interesting threads from years ago with discussion of some original, very clever ideas. The 3D MS mapping engine, computer vision that Ben was working on, SKy scripter's canny core, some smart auto-responders (but that's in the higher up boards), old methods of accurately solving random events. Many of these can still be further developed but 99% of the community will never find them. :(

Give -SRL-Members the ability to de-rep again. Why am i classed as a SRL-Member who abuses rep? check my history if you can, I hardly ever de-rep and i never abuse the de-rep function.
Even tho derepping is of no real benefit for me. i feel as if the SRL-Member status is getting degraded. why do we all have to loose functionality just because some chumps abused it. Couldn't you just disable the derep function on those SRL-Member accounts who actually have abused it? Hate to say it but whoever disabled rep for SRL Members and below is Stereotyping.

We could start an interesting thread thread, and people could contribute and see if there's any projects they want to work on.

Although, you could also put it on the wiki, if it gets put up again :)

That's actually not a bad idea. A single thread with a compilation of old & forgotten projects but still have potential.

Orrrrr they could give us one more chance, and if someone abuses it it's auto suspension?

If I remember the rules, reputation abuse is still an infractable offence, correct? So why not just infract those who abuse it instead of punishing a group who the majority of which did not break a rule?

That being said, there is not a whole lot of purpose to negative rep, but it is a fast way to bring someone's attention to something that they should not have done. Although I still think that this was not an appropriate response.

I suppose I'll just need to send somebody a PM if I think that they should be behaving in a more positive manner :)

That's why I said we usually won't mind bumping a question or big thread when it died. I just don't see a button being any better than a post.

Bringing back de-repping won't happen. Often the comments were offensive, but even without the abuse. What good could it bring. Have you ever de-repped someone with the a constructive motive? Probably not. De-repping can only make things worse. We should try to be community of scripters and friends, as equals, what can we say about each other? Let's just keep the reputation system as tool to encourage each other! As a pat on the shoulder as wel as an visible stat proving people acknowledged you.

BTW the abuse group was pretty big, and only growing. No one felt like dealing with it.

Maybe it won't be back. but its what i'd like to see. i have alot of opinions on what you have said.

I have never de-repped with a constructive motive. This is because generally people don't take negative rep nicely. if i wanted to be constructive i'd post on the thread about how they can improve themselves or even go as far to PM them, this way they don't feel like they've lost out essentially degrading their confidence. The only time i ever give negative rep is when i find offensive posts or i see posts other people might find offensive. As i have said before i hardly ever de-rep. This forum is quite quick to distinguish the troublemakers from the people who are generally just trying to learn / be constructive, and when a troublemaker is found they don't stick around as they get ban or some other type of punishment is handed out. Without de-rep how do people realize who to watch out for? i generally look at the rep balls on newer users. this was i can gather a quick trait / personality.

You say de-repping CAN make things worse. yeah, i agree, it can. but this is the same as everything else in life.

You talk about equality, but you fail to realize it was only SRL-Members and below that got the de-repping functionality disabled. How is this equality? if your saying its bad, why doesn't it get disabled for everyone?

Yeah it may have been a big group but not as big as all SRL-Members and below. You can't say noone felt like dealing with it. People hand out ban's frequently enough, how hard can it be to hand out ban's to people who abuse rep? This way the group that was growing would eventually stop. at the moment what happened was you skipped all the steps in between. the action that was taken wasn't suited to what was happening.

Yes and no. We used a plugin so that the login to the wiki used the vB login system. However it appears that this only hid the wiki's registration/login system rather than actually disabling it. So we would have to look at how to fully disable the wiki's registration system to stop the spambots.

Do you honestly think we have not tried that? Warnings, infractions, personal conversations trying to resolve issues, bans. We have done it all and used up hours of our time dealing with the immaturity of people who obviously cannot handle the ability to take away a few ultimately meaningless internet rep points. So what else is there to do if none of the above works? The only thing is to take it away, and that is what we have done.

That being said, we as the staff will consider your suggestions of taking derep away from everyone and not just people below SSRL. But heed my advice, the way you went about addressing this situation was terrible and is not how you get things done. Whenever I see threads and polls of people petitioning or demanding things from the staff, it pisses me off more than you can imagine and if you want things from me, pissing me off is not a good way to go about it. Let me leave you all with a quote from the rules thread as a reminder.
Any disagreement with a staff member's decision is to be resolved through the use of the PM system. Any public disputes are to be avoided and are infractable at the staff’s discretion. You have no rights and are entitled to nothing.

Note: The last paragraph was a generalized statement not aimed at any specific person. It also did not mean all polls are bad, merely the ones presented in an aggressive fashion to try and force the staff to do something.

I'm sorry that you appear to have misinterpreted my poll. It was not intended as a petition or a demand, merely a way to find out what people thought of an idea. Participation in the poll is optional, and I am by no means demanding that the results of the poll have any sort of rule changing authority.

I have no evidence of you Banning people who abused rep. I didnt even know that Rep abusing was an issue until negative rep was disabled. Didnt know anyone actually got their negative rep abilities disabled until yesterday. When SRL-Members below got it disabled.

Regarding how i addressed the situation, What did i do wrong. I'm not trying to get in your bad books but was i the one who made the threads? was i the one who made the polls? do you have any sort of evidence to class me as the person who made the threads + polls? i'm not in any sort of group who is petitioning nor am i demanding anything. Fair enough, i didn't know that if someone got banned then the reasoning behind it stayed anonymous. I just thought no real action was taken as i lurk on skype and some of the main negative rep abusers didn't get ban or anything.

With the coming of reflection for Oldschool Rs, can we possibly get some guides going for reflection usage in simba?.

There is plenty of posts now that showcase the usage of reflection, but there isn't any detailed guide that takes its time to comment on each line of the script explaining what everything stands for and what everything does on every single line/step of the way.

This isn't site related or any request to add anything. Just don't know where to post it, been waiting for days for a guide to pop up so i can start using reflection, and so far there has been nothing :(.

While reflection is available, there are no hook updaters (except for player info I think?), meaning you would manually need to grab new hooks for every activity every update. As that's kind of a pain, people are working on getting updaters in place to fix that issue first and then you will likely start seeing guides and reflection scripts.

when looking at the new posts, i can see back over 24hrs on the first page :/

maybe a way to do this would be through more competitions and trying to involve people more in development. for example hold a competition in which people must design there own method(s) to re-organise the RS3 GUI into a bot friendly arrangement … and/or other required segments of code, not only will people get involved but with how ever many peoples individual answers to the problem, we should end up with a rather eloquent solution (i would hope :p ).

i definitely feel that a key feature of this forum is the teaching that happens and peoples willingness to learn. i have really enjoyed my short time on this forum and would love to see the activity pick up!

@Daniel

Currently to my knowledge when somebody reports a post, a thread is made in the mod section or whatever containing the report. Anyway, sometimes after I report maybe a spammer (because I think it's just a spam post) I see another spam post by that person and find that the person is still spamming or a spambot. This means that I will have to report them again and create another thread with that report(if it's important enough). Sometimes I don't want to report another post just because I don't want to create another thread but there is the possibility that the mod/mods may overlook other spam posts if any. Maybe when a person reports something, they can view just their report thread much like the member application process. This way they can add/edit the thread about the incident instead of spamming up the section. And of source handled reports could be moved to the archive were you could no longer see them(unlike Member apps)

Just report each individual post that you think is spam. If you state something along the lines of "this user has been spamming non-stop for the past 2 hours", or "this user has made the same thread in ten different places", then that will prompt us to look into their post history and delete any irrelevant thread/posts. If it is clear that a user is a spam bot, then you need only report once. :)

From: Officer Barbrady

Maybe when a person reports something, they can view just their report thread much like the member application process. This way they can add/edit the thread about the incident instead of spamming up the section. And of source handled reports could be moved to the archive were you could no longer see them(unlike Member apps)

That is unlikely to happen.

I should like to see a very clear delineation in the forums concerning RS3, OSRS, and PSRS. No mixing of the threads. As I've stated elsewhere, I personally have no interest in anything other than RS3, but I have to wade through posts concerning OSRS and PSRS to get to the information I need. Not sure if others are of the same mind or not.

The only time I see 07 things is villavu.com/forum/vaispy.php (Although admittedly that's where I see almost everything unless I'm looking for something specific)

I'm not sure if it's possible for the admins to allow you to filter the feed from different sections, but it it's possible I'd be down for it.

Are there any sections right now that have both 07 and RS3 topics?

I'm having tons of problems dowloading and installing using the tutorials guides for old runescape. Can find download buttons. Simba straight failes to open smart 3.3. I can find MSI. Pretty dang frustrated to be honest. If smart or MSI could just open I'm pretty sure i can figure out how to add scripts. Guess I'm gonna have to grind RS for a little longer. Motivates me to learn how to script even more so rs players can actually enjoy this game.

Using the forums has been a real challenge navigating between new and old post made by others and one self. I think more ppl would be active if navigating wasn't so hard. My first impression of navigation was to weed out the leechers and noobs. I guess in that way job well done.

However I'm starting to get the hang of it. Been using advanced search ever since. Very helpful and so was the forum search tutorial.

Guides
Help
SRL (two small sub categories which are not the same size as SRL, OSRS and RS3)
General
Scripts
Etc

I can't imagine that I'm the only one who uses the Internet in a dark room at night, and the light-on-white colour style really hurts the eyes.

Is it a lack of time to install one on behalf of the Admins, or is it intentional?

The brightness on both of my monitors is permanently down to the minimum, and I use f.lux on top of that (funnily enough, I just posted a thread about it in the tech section), but it's still not enough. Going from a dark themed website/application to a bright one is still really jarring and hurts my eyes for a while before they properly adjust (and even then it's not great). MENTORS

A way for people learning to contact experienced members in a non-soliciting manner OUTSIDE of PM's would be nice. The tutorials are well constructed and there are sub forums for 'First Scripts' and 'Help' but I still feel as though I would learn a lot more being able to bounce small questions and code snippets off of someone who I have an easy way to get in touch with. This streamlined form of communication will be great for generating focused dialog and minimizing the answer time for someone that really cares about learning. This WOULD NOT be for giving someone lessons or dedicated hours of their day.

Maybe create a sub-forum in the help section where SRL Members can post threads accepting applications from those seeking a "mentor". From those applications they can choose however many people they want and then give those few a direct line of communication such as Skype.

It is just a little cleaner than sending people PM's asking for help, posting in the chat and having to get one answer at a time, or posting in the help section and getting few replies. I just find it extremely frustrating while I am trying to learn.

I try to make myself available for small answers and whatnot like you've asked, but I have a full time job and a life outside of SRL and work, so I could never make the time commitment to be a full mentor. I generally linger on IRC (Garrett) while at work and can answer questions if you highlight me. The easiest way to reach me though is almost definitely PM, as it lets me answer when I have the time.

Any urgent questions, the best thing to do is go on IRC and ask (and be patient waiting for an answer). Lots of people are helpful there as long as you don't ask how to avoid being banned or how to set up your RS settings, which happens way too often.

Fredecus

2014-12-18 17:53:19

I am thinking of something a little more personal and organized than the IRC and faster than PM. Also, This is not something where you need to dedicate specific amounts of time to. Maybe it is a 5 minute conversation on Skype when you are online. I work a full time job at a game developer and am working roughly 60 hours a week while taking 14 hours of classes so I absolutely understand the time aspect.

If you want to PM me your skype then I'll add you. I'm about to have a 2 week vacation from work so I'm sure I'll have much more time to help in the next two weeks. You seem like someone who would be good to teach, I'd like to help however I can.

"SRL University", a revamp of the tutorial / scripting sections that dives head first into the SRL Documentation. There are already some great tutorials covering basics; however, why not break the documentation down function by function conceptually? There seems to be so many great ways to implement code, so why not pick the minds in a more formal setting. Quizzes to keep in interesting and grading could be something to look at to keep people honest in their scripting. Just an idea I found interestingly cool.

Really nice idea. I started scripting like two weeks ago. There are some really great guides. I must say I have a scripting background. But I do think that there are a lot more good ways for people to learn scripting. Also to motivate them. Quizzes, etc. are really great ways to motivate people to start scripting.

Not to mention a backend for it… yeah, there are plenty of free/open source ones (moodle and such), but… it would require hosting somewhere… and i doubt @wizzup; would consider hosting something on his servers that he didnt write himself.

and then someone (or someones) would have to put all of that stuff there. fun fun.

As for time, I would consider this to definitely be a group project, with its own moderation team? I wasn't actually meaning a brand new site or host, though that would be pretty neat. Possibly just a new forum section that is organized, updated and maintained differently than the tutorial section is now to provide a better learning track for future SRL members.

I really liked the grading that was done by Mayor's last competition and presumably for SRL membership. It sparked more motivation for me to figure out what I should be focusing on as I learn to script and go from beginner to intermediate script writing.

Lol it wouldn't have to take place of rep, there are thousands of forums with thank-you buttons for posts and + rep, and no i believe it wouldn't end spam but you would be able to give those that do spam, an option to say thanks, so that they couldn't use that as an excuse to spam..Meh it seems noone likes the idea, sorry :(

Some gripes:

"Whats new?" @ https://villavu.com/forum/forum.php needs an apostraphe:
—>

"Old-School Scripts" @ https://villavu.com/forum/forum.php could have "Public" appended to the front of it to match the above heading:
—>

"Only Members have access to this Section…" @ https://villavu.com/forum/forum.php could use some decapitalization.
—>

Two minor fixes for the Jr. Member forum sections @ https://villavu.com/forum/forum.php (no ban 4 leak pls):
—>

"SRL Resource Library" and "SRL Old School Runescape" could distinguish themselves a bit better:
—>

Reflection's forum header could be a litter nicer (in the vein of the above request):
—>
(Also, possibly move Reflection above Simba's section and decapitalize the "D" in "Development" of Simba's section)

"S.M.A.R.T." —> "SMART"

Don't think this one needs a picture :p the periods are ugly imo and since everyone says "SMART" anyway, why not?

"Unofficial Development" section: change "openGL" to "OpenGL"

Again no picture needed, it's right below SMART's section

Note to self: stopped just short of "SRL Public" section

This is all really nit-picky stuff but just annoys me because I'm OCD

If you guys want more, I'll do the rest of the page

Hey guys! I'm a newbie to the site, and to coding bots, and coding in general to be honest. I just wanted to submit something that would greatly help out new people. AS is the forums are quite, messy. You have no clue where to start other than downloading it. There should be a thread, or guide, or even directory that has the best order to learn stuff. As is you search the forums for what you want to do, for certain things. Like there's a DTM thread here, a Colors thread there, a different thread for everything, and nothing links any of them.

My suggestion is to create a forum, or a directory that will have everything from downloading and setting up Simba, to creating a function or procedure, to actually having a script complete an action. Create a thread that teaches you how to go from the beginning to the end. The forums are excellent if you know a little bit about coding SRL but if your absolutely new like myself, you know to look at the downloading guide first, and then the very basics thread. From there you have no idea what to look at, for, in what order, or anything.

I personally havn't been able to learn Simba due to this.. theres no direction in the forum, and a directory showing what order you should learn what in, would be amazing. For now, I've read over the basic guides, and then just random stuff. Theres no linkage, which I would love to see. I know it would help me a ton, and I think it would really help the entire community.

~~~~~Thanks for reading
While I love that you took the time to write that post, I really don't understand why you can't find anything. If you're after RS3 stuff, then there's literally a whole section of the forum dedicated it to it with multiple tutorials and stuff that will help you to learn how to script. In fact, there's a directory in the exact forum where you'd find those tutorials you read (which are excellent tutorials, btw) which can also be found in the red link in my signature.
If you're talking about 07, then things are indeed more difficult, but not impossible to find.
Just to let you know, we do have a competition section where competitions have happened, and I believe that there is one being judged right now. You can find it under the 'SRL Public' tab on the main page of the forums.
I've been there. But each thing only teaches you random tidbits. I mean a real tutorial. Not 3 million random tutorials for every different thing. A tutorial that teaches the proper syntax, functions, procedures. Then goes into how to call it, and then goes into actually creating a script. Then a working script. Then an efficient script etc etc etc. Rather than a guide on how to cut 1 tree and drop it. Then a different guide how to take 3 steps and stop, etc etc.
I think I see what your problem is now. It's hard at first to see "3 million random tutorials" and no where to begin, but that's because you're looking for a single tutorial that teaches you literally everything. Such a thing already exists for RS3 (The Mayor's Simplistic and AIO tutorials), but for 07 you need to piece them together yourself. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that you could learn how to script with the guides in that forum, you just need to piece what you learn from each tutorial together. There is a tutorial that teaches you proper syntax, functions, procedures, and how to call them. There is another that teaches you to create a script (which works). You can apply that knowledge to create an efficient script, and look at the RS3 scripting tutorials for anything missing because it's literally the same thing but for a different version of the game.
Scripting in 07 and RS3 only differ because of the includes available, but it's still done in the same way. If you want to use the bank, you need to find it, open it, and deposit/withdraw. This is the same in 07 and RS3, but the way you do it is slightly different in each.
Alternatively, learn how to script for RS3 with The Mayor's tutorials first, then take that knowledge and apply it to 07.
No, the AeroLib include is different to the SRL-OSR include so has different procedures and functions. There's no tutorial for it afaik, but you can learn to script with it after learning with other tutorials.
