Should ALL drugs be legalized?

Intelligent debate only.

Should ALL drugs be legalized?

Pros

- It's your body you should be able to do what you want to it, you don't need the federal government to tell you what you can do with yourself
- Stop drug cartels and gangs from making so much money
- Stop over doses/mis doses because of dealers trying to make profit by lacing drugs with others (heroin +sleeping meds for more profit…)
- Less money spent on countless drug raids that get no were

Cons

- Less intensive for people to become clean if they wish to be
- Possible more DUI's (I have no facts to back this up please don't quote me on this just a thought)

No, I believe that MOST drugs should stay illegal. If all drugs were legal, there would have to be many restrictions on use. Many more restrictions then just having them illegal. You could also put a basic anti-restriction, "Must use within home…". Something along those lines might be acceptable, but what if your kid's were home when you were taking meth? So now you can only have methamphetamine if you don't have children. There are so many situations, there is always going to be good and bad sides to each. This discussion would go on forever…

Why are you bringing up basic restrictions when im talking about complete legalization like cigs and beer. Meth addicts already fo meth in front of their kids..

That's why I responded with No, implying "there should not be complete legalization". I believe they should stay illegal. I brought up basic restrictions, because if they were legal they would need to be implemented into our legal system. I understand that Meth addicts do meth in front of their kids, and having a substance like meth legal, there would be no repercussion for this behavior. If a meth addict is caught that situation is "resolved".

My first response we badly worded, sorry for that. I wasn't very clear with what I was trying to get across.

Along with what sjoe said the people who don't do drugs now because of it being illegal are more likely to start just simply cause it's legalised and they'll think it's alright, legalising all drugs will add to the amount of junkies that cities and trains are already full of…

Legal or illegal, didn't stop me. People who are desperate enough to go down this road they will get the thing they want.

I personally don't think it would be the BEST way of going about this. I don't think they should just be LEGAL. There are many pros and cons for these drugs being legal or illegal. I mean the crime that is funded from the sale and import not to mention the turf wars between gangs is immense. Think of this multi billion dollar funding these gangs suddenly stop since anyone and everyone can get them probably even cheaper now. Then again, if anyone and everyone can get these drugs easily and cheap there would probably be a huge amount of ODs/Deaths/Addictions etc. I don't necessarily think that there would be anarchy and our civilization will be doomed, but then again it could happen as there are a huge amount of people that haven't tried these drugs because they are illegal and don't want to get in trouble.

It's just not an easy issue to say that one is better than the other. Both have negatives and positives.

Gangs and such would find another alternative to selling drugs.. maybe more murders, it could be anything, but gangs definitely would find other alternatives to drugs if they had too…

Weed Should become legal as it is not a drug(my thoughts) while on the other drugs should never be legalized as there would be army's of drug addicts everywhere to make the matters even worse than it already is.
And even if they made weed legal worldwide the whole world would become lethargic, and things would cease to be done.
All in All If All drugs were made legal The reprecautions of that decision would be drastic worldwide. Iam sure there are many who oppose this idea And are For it although :duh: .

No, although I have no facts to back my point I do remember reading this somewhere credible so I will say it.

I believe that the cost of policing the legal use of drugs will be greater than the current cost of policing illegal drugs. This is because there will still always be some restrictions like driving under the influence or selling to minors which will happen in greater quantities if the availability of the drugs is greater.
That being said there are some drugs which I feel could be safely and responsibly legalised however definitely not all of them.

open minded != optimistically idealist. For starters.. lets look at the requirements..

the prerequisites for trading/growing & smuggling drugs just require some land, fertilizer, some dumbass mules who would work for 2 USD per hour.

the prerequisites for hacking banks(as if u can waltz onto a bank's website and simply 'hack' it for money).. you would probably need some smartass guy with tons of experience who wouldn't even work for you as he/she can demand much higher & legal salary from silicon valley than what you can probably pay him/her.

The chances of bank hacking being successful are very slim. I don't see this to be even a fraction of what the money generated from drug import/export/sale.

I can however see theft increase. I will give you that one. Still no where near the billions easily made from drugs.

Like what? They'd have to increase in doing more road blocks you mean? I don't see how that can be very expensive.

I doubt that it costs more to police legal than illegal use of drugs. Think about all the minor arrests made for possessing minor amount of drugs on a person. Now think about the legal costs to prosecute that person for that. If that person got jail time, think about the tax dollars being spent to keep that person in jail. This is just for minor arrest there are god knows how many major ones.

To me it seems the other way around. Policing illegal drug use is greater than if they were legal.

Although it would be expensive to regulate, there would be substantial tax revenue for various levels of government.

Personally and in all seriousness only Marijuana should be legalized. All other drugs impair you and bring you outside the realm of control. Marijuana just raises your dopamine or "feel good" part of the brain.

Shrooms (Psylocibin Cubensis) and LSD (Lysergic acid diethylamide) are 2 different things. If you take a lot you would probably overdose, and it only increases brain capabilities, not increases your intelligence. You only use some 10% of your brain- shrooms "apparently" increases that. You don't become smarter. Its like a hard drive upgrade, your computer increases in size, not speed.

I kid you not, Shrooms permanently increase your brain capabilities.

And if you smoke marijuana (enough to get high) and don't feel good/relaxed/at ease/careless/on air/cloud 9 then you may have introduced your lungs to common lawn grass. I do have a friend who doesn't feel great when he smoked, but he did feel something.

Marihuana brings out schizoprehenia and paranoia, it's not all that harmless as you think.

Chris Reborn

2013-05-14 18:18:56

I don't want to get too involved in this argument but my opinion is that most things should stay as they are. ILLEGAL. I do think marijuana in some cases can be beneficial, like in the states that are starting to legalize it. If marijuana was kept so it was only prescribed to people who "need" it to function properly or help them overcome something in their life, then the doctor should be able to prescribe them it. But, even if marijuana was legalized I don't think many of you realize how inexpensive it is to grow. If you have the right conditions to grow you can easily drop the price a significant bit and still make some cash. If marijuana was legalized there would still be an underground business for it simply because doing it underground could be profitable for the seller and cheaper than buying it legally for the consumer. As far as more strong drugs go ie. cocaine heroin etc, i think they should stay illegal. Most of the people who are getting mixed up in that are bad news and if it were legal more people would have the mantality of, "well it's legal it can't be that bad". There is a reason we have programs like DARE to teach kids that cigarettes and alcohol can do harm to you. So, why should we open more doors for them to legally mess up their lives. Now this is just my input on the topic i am not saying that i am right or wrong, but from what I have gone through in the past 5 years this is the conclusion I have to come to on this topic.

That hasn't quite been proven yet and it's just a theory at the moment, but even the theory of marijuana being related to schizophrenia is only if someone has schizophrenia in there genes, it only enhances it, so if someone were to have no cases of schizophrenia in there family then there is no possibility of someone getting schiz from smoking weed :)

Lol this is hilarious. Drugs legalized? No not at all. Making it more accessible to people is not the brightest idea. You failed to list quiet a lot of side effects from these drugs which can not be over looked. Collecting Tax on it does not give us to right to allow things like Crystal Meth and Cocaine to be legalized.

I do not how ever believe that all drugs are the same, someone are less harmful than others, such as Marijuana. Legalizing that wouldnt be a bad idea. Do not put that in the same category as cocaine and heroin and other substances.

People put too much faith into humanity, you have to realize humans are in it for the cheap thrills.

If certain drugs were legal there really is nothing stopping the person from trying them, for example: I wouldn't try meth because I know it is illegal and horrible for you, whereas if it was legal I would be far more inclined to try it because it would rise in "fame" dramatically as a common household drug like alcohol.

Having things be illegal is just putting up barriers for us, yeah some do cross them and do illegal things anyway but for the most part it keeps society functioning.

Some people are too stupid for drugs, and laws need to exist. Not to protect the person using the drugs, but to protect everyone around them.

I dont think this is a good idea, alcohol and cigarettes are being abused so heavily already. If we added drugs which have a lot stroger effect on the human body and behaviour, we would see a disastrous deterioration of many people's health.
Also, drugs cause irreversible addiction more easily - there are many ppl in any population who are prone to get addicted of sth. If all restrictions are removed, most of those ppl will get addicted and start affecting others too.

perception shouldn't be a part of the discussion. Caffeine is a drug. Most people don't perceive crack and caffeine as similar at all…

I can smoke weed, I can spend all my money on weed, this harms no one.

A junkie can shoot up heroine, a junkie can spend all their money on heroine, this harms no one(except arguably the junkie).

Now the difference? heroine will DRIVE the junkie to do RETARDED stuff to get more, weed, meh, I might be in a grumpy mood for a bit if I can't blaze but that's more me not getting what I want.

It is possible to be a stoner and not negatively affect society, I've yet to see a dope-head NOT negatively affect others(friends, family, society).

When your vice affects me it becomes a crime.

Kevin

Personally… I'm an advocate for natural selection. I understand people are curious… and drugs are addicting… and all that fun and jazz… But if people want to bring that upon themselves, then they made the conscious decision to bring that upon themselves.

Yes, that may cause the loss of people that are quite intelligent and were merely curious. Yes, our world could easily support more people than exist now anyway so limiting people isn't a necessity. Yes, it could be my friends and/or family that die because of it. However, I'm a strong advocate for free choices so long as they don't impede other people's ability for free will or health and safety.

All that said… I do think that if they were ever to be legalized, they should be taxed heavily and heavily monitored and only handled through approved distribution centers with black market related activity still being punishable as that's dangerous for entire other reasons.

Once you enter there almost no way out. I have an uncle that do drugs meth an other shit. His family crumble down, you can see their kids without food, their wife crying its just horrible. He s also in a lamentable state. he is skinny and high all day sometimes he wont even respond to you. Its just horrible.
Ok I understand that many people wants to legalize marijuana, but common designer and artificial drugs? that shit really kills you.

Its not the goverment that put the laws, and say you what to do and what no to do. Its society.

"Your liberties stop when the liberties of the other starts" This means I have the liberty of owning and using a gun, but the other has the liberty to live. I cant use my "liberty" to stop the liberty of the other. And if you think drugs usually have the same effect. Everything is "good" and "awesome" until you have to steal, kill, and do many other crimes to supply the feeling.

So if you want to do what ever you want with yourself is you problem, but dont make it a problem for others. Get out of society, go to the jungle or the desert idk, and then you are free to do whatever you want to yourself.
