Alright guys, its confirmed, one of the new skills is Divination

https://twitter.com/RuneScape/status/331474672656982017

One of the new skills is called 'Divination'*
*According to this IGN article on RS3
So what does Divination mean?

Taken from Wikipedia
Divination (from Latin divinare "to foresee, to be inspired by a god", related to divinus, divine) is the attempt to gain insight into a question or situation by way of an occultic, standardized process or ritual. Used in various forms throughout history, diviners ascertain their interpretations of how a querent should proceed by reading signs, events, or omens, or through alleged contact with a supernatural agency.

Jagex has announced a new version of RuneScape is on the way, bringing a number of technological, gameplay and narrative improvements to the 12-year-old game.

The company is currently targeting RuneScape 3 for release this summer, when a host of changes will hit the browser MMO's world of Gielinor. The most striking of these is undoubtedly the game's new look; since inception RuneScape has been implemented in browsers using Java, but once RuneScape 3 lands this'll be changed to HTML5, resulting in a very different RuneScape experience.

The developer has announced three main areas it's tried to focus on in the biggest update to the game since RuneScape 2 launched way back in 2004.

First up, the changes in tech, including the shift to HTML5, mean that loading times will be greatly reduced. From my hands-on time with the game, I can confirm they're pretty much imperceptible. But while other improvements include better draw distance, stronger lighting and shadows, there was one change that really startled me; I could see the sky for the first time. RuneScape 3 features a moveable camera that you can pitch as well as rotate, meaning you'll no longer be stuck with a bird's eye view if you don't want it. Additionally the audio has been redone, with the team hoping there won't be a single MIDI file left once the updated version launches.

The second area of change is gameplay. While combat and the like has been tightened, Jagex has mainly focused on a popular quality of life request from players; customisable UI. All menus are fully flexible now, meaning they can be tabbed or reshaped, and eventually players will be able to share their setups with each other. Two new skills will also be added to the game; while one hasn't been revealed, the other, divination, will apparently play a key role in the latter stages of RuneScape 3's story.

Which brings us rather neatly to the third area destined for improvement; narrative. RuneScape 3 will see the dawn of the Sixth Age in Gielinor. Guthix, the God of Balance and the first to arrive on Gielinor has died and, as a result, all the protective wards he placed on the world have gone too. This wouldn't be too much of an immediate issue if not for one thing; the other gods are returning, each keen to beat the world into submission and stamp their dominance across it.

And so the stage is set for players to have a greater impact on the game's future. Jagex is keen for the community to drive changes in RuneScape 3; whereas older updates focused on disparate storylines, the onus from here on out will very much be on giving players the tools to "carve their names into the foundation stones of the game," according to design director Mark Ogilvie. It'll be up to players to decide which gods win and lose the battle for familiar areas through things like world events, the first of which will occur when the game launches, with others following roughly every three months after.

Despite the changes, Jagex is quick to assert that all the old content will still be available and it'll be backwards compatible with legacy browsers. As is currently the case, no upfront downloads will be required, with the game being streamed as it's played. At the moment RuneScape 3 runs pretty seamlessly on Chrome, though Mozilla is close to ironing out the last few kinks causing issues in Firefox. The next version of Internet Explorer will also work, apparently.

RuneScape 3 is targeted for release later this summer. To hear more about the game from the developers, as well as the possibility of console and tablet versions of the game, be sure to check back to IGN early next week.

More Proof
Some further proof that one of thew new skills is Divination.

Interesting. A play on the old Greek/roman path. Wonder how that ties in with it being a gathering or consumption skill.

Maybe he meant it would be something like dungeoneering, where most of the content of the skill is members, and the basic minimum is to free players.
It could've also meant that you could buy stuff from SOF/SGS to help you with the skill, I'm leaning towards the mostly members/part free players just like dungeoneering was

I agree with Sengrath involving the guy's understanding of RS as a whole.

However, I'm curious about what Divination could accomplish… Un-identified items? How would we level it up? What items should I buy now to avoid the market flux of its release? ;)

Maybe it could be about 'gathering' the knowledge of rs lore/gods

No idea about the items to gather now

I'm just saying that, regardless of what Mod Mark meant, this guy misinterpreted it. I mean, there's absolutely nothing in Runescape that has everything but "minor enhancements" available to nonmembers, and there's no way they're going to start now.

To me this seems like a consumption skill more than a gathering skill, idk though.

It also could be a gathering skill though, maybe you get god guidance to hidden items?

So if Prayer is related to Saradomin (regular prayers, not sure about others), then will Divination be about the GWD fights or will they attempt to destroy Zamorak, Saradomin and Guthix aswell?

Hm.

Yeah I would probably stop playing if that was implemented lol. I mean it can't really count as a skill. Although everyone could get 99 easily.

I srsly have my doubts about this divination or whatever. Sounds very very sad.

Bankstanding would be better :D
I think altars will have something to do with divination, also I think that killing certain creatures (Zamoraki, for example, in the chaos tunnels), GWD NPCs would probably tie in

Another thing got me thinking, of late Jagex has been making everything a division…
In world wakes you choose your path Zamorak (bad), Guthix (good)
in wilderness warbands you have to go against other types of warbands and players.
The PVP arena got revamped.
The new updates coming out say we will be joining a god rank and earn a title.

Anybody else noticed how WoW like the game is becoming with Horde and stuff? Might just be me.

What I am saying is he should hook up with somewhere, or a group of people that are going to teach him first so that he can go with randoms, and then he can rage at them when they mess up the dg

E: I by no means am good ad DG nor do I claim to be, I'm just saying from personal experience that soloing or duoing with a good friend on RS is more enjoyable than 5 randoms who all donno what the other is doing.

I basically learned how to DG and got to 120 by dging on world 77
Getting raged at by others on 77 only lasted for about a day or two? Wasn't even that long till I got the hang of it and then I started hosting and had quick floors.

By dging on 77, I basically made a semi-permanent team of people who were maxed/near my level. And stayed there till I got 120. He can do the same, getting pointed out for the mistakes someone makes will eventually make the person not commit the mistake in the future.

Besides, whats wrong with 'randoms'? They shouldn't even be considered 'randoms' once you've been dging with them for a few days and get familiar with how player x is at dging compared to player y. You can even add them, get to know them better, and making friends like that makes dging fun.

Yeah, I only dung with friends occasionally. I find that randoms are usually faster (high level randoms that is), friends seem to slack off a bit :p

Haha yeah, and friends sometimes get boring/repetitive after awhile

Thats why I did it with different randoms, made new friends, and so on. Made the whole training to 120 fun :P

Archaeology in Runescape, how would that work… :bart:

You dig with your trowel and excavate PNA pottery, you re-arrange your pots by typology, congratulation! your Archaeology level is now 2!.

Edit: How about this: you start digging in a horizontal path - you get a random event: (Menacing Ghost: Think about the stratigraphy!!) you die during combat to the random event (maybe like a Kathleen Kenyon look a like from her physique during the year 1953 or 1935).

And once you go up levels, you'll have to re-organize a lot of pottery and rebuild them (re-attach,Rims,Base,necks,body and restore some), then you'll have to date your finds, guess it would be too much to add PPNA or PPNB ware/architectural finds, so something like PNA or Ubaid period or even further into Chalcolithic would be a good 'start' point, then expand to the latest being (in accordance to the British law) the year 1700.

So it would cover EB,MB,LB,Iron1,Iron2A,Iron2b,(Proto-Geometric, and Geometric periods), Persian,Hellenistic,Roman,Byzantine, Early Islamic pre 749 Earth-Quake (mostly would be buffed war and FBW),Abbasid, Fatimid, all the way to Medieval and upto Ottoman and American pottery.

I don't know much about European or American Chronology, although i do read articles about south america excavations, still would be an awesome skill and would be HELLA EDUCATIONAL!, because current runescape doesn't teach anything….

Maybe even build your own Kiln, fire up all pottery with the right degree to produce the right chromatic colors… WOuld be awesome… If it was in game i would be firing up Enameled and gilded glass, then adding more colors and re-firing to produce the rank (blazon) for my clan symbol XD
