SRL Archive - Outdated Tutorials

My Tutorial Project is Finished! I have taken out a couple of the less-needed things to get this out earlier, and I finished the code for it faster than I could have ever imagined.

For those of you who don't know, I've been working on this since February, though up until late April, I had zero time to work on it because of school. I started working on it and came back to SRL. Now, it's 12:00am here, and I'm tired, but I had to get this out here!

I hope that everyone learns at least something from this. Take a look at the basics section, and go to the third page, for example. I'm sure quite a few people will learn something new there, but I'm also 100% sure there are others who will not.

PLEASE report every little error to me either in this thread or through a PM so I can make version 2 all the better ;) If it's a little fix, I can do it quickly and release that within probably 10 minutes.

I've made the whole thing into a setup.exe type file which compresses everything similar to how a .rar or .zip would, but I used this type of setup because you don't need any additional programs to use a .exe file. Every file that comes with this will install itself where you want it to be installed, and includes an option to include it in the start menu. I encourage you to check the place where the program is installed. I've left you all with .rtf versions of every tutorial which you can open in wordpad. I've also left example scripts on all of the topics so that you have something to compare your scripts to that you make by following this collection of tutorials.

Also, it has been brought to my attention that some people may not notice the arrows at the bottom of the tutorial window. It's not on the first page (the intro page), but is on every other page. The arrows lead you to other tutorials in the category ;)

Oh, yes, before I forget, StarBlaster100 did close to 95% of what's in the include section ;) He wanted to help, but I didn't really see his skills as what I wanted. I seriously spent about an hour editting what he wrote, and then I added a few things. Sorry it didn't work out StarBlaster :\

In your autocolor section maybe include the other possible ways? AutoColor is a hot thing most sctipt0rs like to learn.

1)Finding Color with Tolerance
2)For GameTab Stuff GetColor(x, y);
3)Bitmaps MMouse(x, y, 1, 1); Not just DTM's?

I updated the .exe. Check it out. I fixed a couple bugs (with wordwrap and changed the buttons to blue), but didn't add any content. If you want to see the change, the link is the same, so just go to my first post ;)

Please, tell me what color you think the buttons should be to be more noticable, but not.. ugly.

ok, here comes constructive criticism:

- This is BY FAR the best tutorial around. Very well written. It reads like a book. IMHO, you should make it read like a book, and abandon the .exe, though it is a sexy concept. It is cumbersome updating .exe every time……and some peeps dont want to click for each 20 lines of info.

Convert the .rtf files to html and host them from driger1592.com, would be an good option. Easy to update and very readable, at least it is a standard and most people are familiair with reading html nowadays.

But besides all this criticism…………….

Thank you Fakawi. I had originally wanted to do this as a .chm file, but then I wanted to do something that's, well, different ;) I decided on the .exe that way, and it helped me learn a lot about Delphi.

Anyway, I can always make it available in separate formats and see what happens. However, the main reason I decided on a .exe is because you can take it with you offline. Plus, by compiling everything in a .exe, I was able to add the example scripts into the install for people to make sure they're doing things correctly.

Of course, I take kindly to suggestions, so I'll give the HTML thing a go, and see what happens ;)

Heh. That's a big cup, but a lot of the cups on here are rather large in my opinion.

Just like to say that the HTML bit is ugly-looking at the moment, but I think I can have it up almost as soon as this quarter's language arts project (eats up unbelievable amounts of time >.<) is done with.

Yeh. Just double click it and keep hitting next until the next button says finish. Then, click finish, go into the start menu and go to the folder named SCAR Tutorial. I'llput this in my first post later, I guess ;)

A variable is a short name for something, think of it like a name in your address book. Rather than typing out the full email address every time you can use the short name you put into your address book to send something.

Example:

msg1 = "This is the my first run through the loop";

msg1 = "This is my second message to use";
writeln(msg1);

Basically they are constants you can re-use through the macro, they have variable uses so to speak :)

Wow, JC1, I especially like what you've already done! Especially for your first post! There's only two problems in your script. You're obviously not familiar with Pascal syntax yet, but all you need to do is change the = to := and the quotes (") to apostrophes (').

Leader's problem was already solved, though. He just didn't see the arrows on the bottom of the program right away ( I originally had the arrows gray ). Thanks for helping :D That's really appreciated around here! :D

Ah Drigor your the nicest guy i know :p i would probably just say well you have to change the = and mke it := and change the " and make it '. :)

I like it. Everything is really great up to the point where you start describing functions.


Either:
A) You didn't do a very good job of showing how its done
B) It's just that everything after procedures is much harder then everything leading up to and including procedures.

I'm guessing its a mixture of the two. It could also be that i'm tired as fuck. I'll take another stab at it tomorrow (today) and see if i can't figure it out. Or it might just be that i don't know much about pascal. I'm getting a mixture of answers when i ask people whether i should learn pascal before i script. So far, only one has said i should.

There's no reason to. Anything you'll learn by learning Pascal will be easier to learn in SCAR ;) I just want to say, "Make sure you're using the arrows on the bottom" ;) A couple people missed the arrows, so I could see if that's why you're not satisfied with my functions tutorial.

If you are still upset with the way I've explained functions and other things let me know and I'll update the section(s) for the next version :p The function tutorial was actually written for Kaitnieks.com, but I put it in because I figured it would be less work and plenty of people liked the tutorial when I released it at Kaitnieks.com ;)

One insignificant mistake. you are talking about the MMouse procedure and talking about randomising it, but actually refer MouseY instead of ranX… as a parameter.

Check it out if you know where i mean… like I said trivial mistake.

DTM's are next on the horizon to master for me. haven't successfully used them before.

A variable is a method to store data… Strings store characters, or strings of characters, Integers store integers(numbers, positive or negative), Boolean results true or false. Those are probally the most used. ^.^

Summer's coming up and I want to have version 2 out sometime shortly after the date I get out of school. I'm just making this post to ask for help :p If you want to help me with this, all you have to do is this:

When you get an error in your script, any kind of error, even a run-time error, post the full error here (doesn't have to include script location) and post the script with the error, or just the few lines around where the error occurred. This may also be a chance to get your errors fixed if you're otherwise unable to ;)

If you haven't been able to tell, the error fixing section is pretty small, because, sadly, I've forgotten about a lot of errors, and how to produce them. All you have to do is post the script and the error you got!

Driger1592 was caught earlier on SwiftIRC (irc.swiftirc.net)distributing malicious files (emote.exe, emote.zip) with intent, and also trespassing on a system he was unauthorized on. I personally talked to a GoDaddy representative to get driger1592.com shut down. It is now shut down pending further investigations into the matter. Legal action has not yet been taken but has been considered. We do have Tyler DeMuth's address and phone number in record so we may be contacting him in the near future.

Let this be a lesson to you who may consider pulling something off in the future.

his program never had any viruses, and his site wasn't doing any harm.

no reason to send a letter to godaddy.com and get it shut down (if it did get shut down that is, or it may just be cutting loose on bandwidth)

oh well, whatever happened true or not, someone host his program again!!!

The tutorial was not the malicious file, nor was I the one who distributed the file. Even GoDaddy made false accusations. I posted the full story on the site somewhere before. If I find it I`ll edit my post with the link =)

Are they safe?

Just so that everyone stops freaking out about if they are safe, I tested the one from http://www.megaupload.com and it is safe, I Just tested the other also from the Cogent-mirror and so far I have found it clean I will post the results of an internet scan sight when I can.

These are the times I wish I had the dedication to become a mod.

Someone puts their hard work into this, and someone else takes the time to bring it down. For shame.

I liked the tutorial, as it wasn't for beginning beginners, yet focused on SCAR.

That was a stupid comment freebullets.
If you dont like it dont say anything.
But i see no reason for this guide to suck.
It covers almost every category of scar basics and even some advaned.
I think you just feel this way perhaps because you cant understand it?

Thankyou very much for putting your time and effort in making this tutorial, which was probably a daunting and tedious task, all for the sake of 'noobs' like me (^_^).

could i suggest something though?… I am not new to programming (with languages such as c++, VB and GML), while learning those programs, most tutorials included the functions with a brief description of the arguments in them,

such as (lol, fictional function):

FindMoney(int,int,bool,bool,int) - though i can see what type the arguments are, i do not know what exactly each argument should be.

so by following this format it is clear,
FindMoney(<x coordinate of coin you want to find (integer)>,<y coordinate of coin you want to find (integer)> ,<should it look up? (true or false)>,<should it drop the coin once found?(true/false)>,<how many times should it look for the money?(integer)>)

Please forgive me if this seems irrational or if it has been done but im just too stupid to see that..

SCAR is based on the PASCAL programming language. IT is just modified a but to help with macroing and some other frunctions for Runescape and other games. Happy Scripting,

I just wanted to add that SRL adds commands and stuff to SCAR. So PASCAL is the basic language, SCAR is based on PASCAL ( SCAR was made by kaitnieks (sp.?) right ? ) and SRL is a very handy add-on. SCAR's current developer is freddy1990. Some more basic info about SCAR can be found on www.sythe.org.

hhmm OK I guess you could have added pictures a in the procedure what each does hhmm I might use this to make a tut exe like this but with a few differences and for vista users use visual studio 2008 and a tip make shure you try to add a few tuts next time.
