Successfully compiling with SMARt, but "Windows cannot find java.exe"

Hey guys,

I've spent the last few hours getting Simba/SRL and SMART set-up and running on my computer. I plan to use them for old school Runescape. I have been following YoHoJo's videos and come upon an issue after installing SMART v.8. So, what is happening is:

I am running a test script.
I receive confirmation that the script has compiled successfully in the debug window.
Almost immediately after this, I get a window pop-up that says:
Windows cannot find 'java.exe'. Make sure that you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

Please help me. I have been searching across the SRL forums and FAQ but have been unable to find anything that helps me resolve this issue. If there is a page out there that exists to help solve that issue, please let me know or (better yet) post a link. If not, help me resolve this issue for myself and others. Thanks for your time.

try watching the video again and redo the part about adding java to your path or maybe you need the offline version of java

I've seen each of his 4 videos that have to do with installing Simba and SMART and getting them set up for '07 multiple times, but I don't remember any part about adding Java to my path. This may be the problem, but do you know how to fix it or where I can go to learn how to add Java to my path? Also, I'm not sure what offline Java has to do with it but if I need that, I can get that as well. Thanks for the quick response.

If you are using Windows 7 then this is how to add java to your path. It may also work for other windows platforms.

1. Open up control panel and in the top right and set the view to small/large icons.
2. Click on system.
3. Find and click on Advanced system settings. This should open up system properties.
4. Under the advanced tab in system properties click environment variables.
5. Now there should be two sections, one is user variables, and the other is system variables. In user variables look for a variable called "path". If you have one then open it up. If you don't have one then click the new button and create a variable called path. Remember, we are doing this under user variables, not system variables.
6. Before we continue we need to find where the bin folder inside our java installation is. It should be in a folder that looks similar to this "C:\Program Files\Java\YOUR JAVA VERSION\bin"
7. If the value field is empty then set the variable value to your java bin folder path and press enter. Otherwise add a semicolin to the end of the other data in the value field and put your java bin folder path after the semicolon. It should look something like this "OTHERDATA;C:\Program Files\Java\"YOUR JAVA VERSION"\bin"
8. That's it!

If you have a different Windows version then the steps are pretty much the same once you get to step 4.

If you are still having trouble, send me a PM with your TeamViewer details and I'll take a quick look

Tealc assisted me in resolving the problem over private message! Thanks so much to Tealc! The problem turned out to be a combination of setting java in the PATH and having the 32 bit java rather than the 64 bit java that I had installed already.
